Stewart-Colbert rally is huge
Wahington DC (Oct. 30)--In the shadow of the Capitol and the election, comedians Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert entertained a huge throng at a "sanity" rally poking fun at the nation's ill-tempered politics, fear-mongers and doomsayers. AP's Matt Friedman reports.
Many Democratic campaign workers went to the event. Rightardia hopes it got them rev'd up for the final push.

Bibi Netanyahu, the politician of 'no'
Relations between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and French President Nicolas Sarkozy have become considerably tense following a telephone conversation between the two leaders 10 days ago.
During that conversation, the French leader apparently asked Netanyahu to extend the settlement freeze in the West Bank so that peace talks could be resumed.
Two European diplomats familiar with the contents of the exchange said Sarkozy was furious with Netanyahu for canceling his participation in a summit with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas in Paris at the last moment.
Other participants at the event, hosted by Sarkozy, included Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
About a month ago, Sarkozy proposed to Netanyahu and Abbas that they both take part in a summit aimed at overcoming the crisis stemming from the construction freeze.
According to the European diplomats, Sarkozy had scheduled the Paris summit for October 21, representing a first step toward restarting the peace talks.
This would have been followed with a summit of the Union for the Mediterranean, scheduled for November in Barcelona, which both Netanyahu and Abbas are also expected to attend.
Netanyahu decided not to attend the Paris event once he realized that the U.S. administration viewed it as a positive development.
"Netanyahu realized that he would come under enormous pressure on the issue of the settlements and decided to cancel his participation to avoid that pressure," some diplomats said.
During the telephone conversation between Netanyahu and Sarkozy 10 days ago, the Israeli prime minister informed the French president that he would not attend the summit because the timing was wrong.
Sarkozy replied by telling Netanyahu that he did not accept his explanations and did not understand the reasoning for his cancellation.

An ABC News/Washington Post poll suggests her candidacy would go over like a lead balloon.
The telephone survey taken Oct. 25-28 of 1,202 adults found that two-thirds of registered voters say Palin governor is unqualified for the job, and more than half continue to rate her unfavorably overall.
ABC News reported:
Palin appears to have gained little luster from the success of the Tea Party political movement with which she'd aligned: Just 39 percent of registered voters see her favorably, the most basic measure of a public figure's popularity. That's essentially the same as her lows, 37 percent, last winter and spring. Even fewer, just 27 percent, see her as qualified for the presidency.
Rightardia views Palin as "George Bush is a skirt." Palin has charisma and simple solutions for complex problems. Like Bush she is an evangelical and would probably get the US involved in another trillion dollar war attacking Iran.

Huffington Post: Rally to Restore Sanity drew crowd of more than 200,000
The Rally to Restore Sanity has ended.
It is clear that a huge number of people attended the event, but the calculations vary among difefrent sources.
According to CBS News, 215,000 people showed up for the rally on Saturday. By comparison, CBS estimated that 87,000 -- just 40% of the Sanity Rally estimation -- attended Glenn Beck's Restoring Honor rally...'

The Canadian Auto Workers union is drawing a line in the sand regarding concessions. Jesse Russell reports:
During rallies throughout the Canadian province of Onatario on Wednesday auto workers said “enough is enough” to automakers demanding concessions while they see substantial profits.
At a rally in Windsor a local President demanded that the suppliers stop trying to force workers to accept a two-tier wage system, slash pensions, and reduce wages.
The union is also calling on auto assembly plants to stop pushing costs onto the auto part companies. The CAW is currently in negotiations with auto parts companies throughout the province.
The unions stance is that the workers offered up enough concessions during the recession and now that things are turning around it is time for the companies to stop making what they see as unreasonable demands.
Last Saturday workers voted in favor of strike action at Canadian Engineering, one of the companies currently in negotiations with the union. The company has set a November 4 deadline to reach a contract agreement.
Rightardia has always been a strong supporter of labor and agrees labor has done enough. We noticed GM union workers in Indianapolis balked at a 50 per cent cut in pay and closed a plant down in Indianapolis. Undoubtedly, this shocked the pants off the plant managers. Unions need to take a stand like the Indianapolis workers and stop rolling over.

When a round of political mailers went out to South Florida homes labeling Democratic attorney general nominee Dan Gelber “toxic to Jewish education,” his opponent Pam Bondi’s campaign told the Sun Sentinel last week that she knew nothing about the fliers. On Thursday, it emerged that the mailer was paid for with a donation from the American Federation for Children, a Washington, D.C.-based group that has a very close but previously undisclosed link to one of Bondi’s top campaign advisors. 10/29/10

Remember those shady attack ads aimed at Florida Attorney General candidate Dan Gelber accusing him of being "toxic to Jewish education"? The Herald and other papers today detailed ties between the group sending the flyers and Gelber's Republican opponent, Buffy Bondi. Joan referrred to her husband as a mensch.
Over the last week my young children have come home from school each afternoon worried that another mailer arrived with a picture of their father in a 'Wanted' poster," Gelber writes. "Our 6 year old asks why people are saying such bad things about his Daddy. I recognize politics is a contact sport, but frankly I’m tired with the utter lack of decency. Now that it’s been confirmed that Ms. Bondi is connected with these vile mailers I’m asking you to let her know that truth matters and that wanting something badly doesn’t mean you can do anything to get it. These are lessons my husband and I proudly teach our children – and lessons we need to teach Ms. Bondi.
If you can read between the lines, you would understand why the Bondi smear is ludicrous.
Rightrdia interviewed Gelber. He is an incredibly smart and expereinced man and almost all of the major Florida newspapers endorse Gelber.
Bondi's claim to fame is that she was a legal analyst for Fox News. It was barely a year ago that Pam Bondi was also named one of Tampa Bay's best dressed for 2009. What amazing
qualifications!

Republicans trying to sell the American Dream
This is a typical GOP ad. Marco Rubio starts off by claiming America is greatest country in the world. Rightardia has refuted this right wing claim on numerous occasions.
The US rarely even places in the top ten on international indexes.
Rubio then claims by following the Democratic approach, America will lose its 'excecptionalism." Well, after Republicans drive he US into a ditch and the right wing militarism and tax cuts for the 'have mores' won't solve anything.
It's hard to be exceptional when most of you industries have been of shored.
Rubio claims to be the sons of a maid and a bar tender. Yes, his mother and father had to take new jobs when they emigrated form Cuba. but many emigres had posh situations in Cuba until the Castro revolution.
Rubio wants the US to follow the corporatist model that funds the GOP. It was the failure of US corporatism with the encouragement of the Bush administration that got us into the ditch in the first place.
Rubio also suggests that every generations has faced big challenges. Yes, and usually it was the Democrats who did the 'hard lifting' to meet the challenge.
Rubio suggest we must chose between a Castro style communist government and the fascist model of the GOP. This is a false canard.
The Democrats have never advocated state-sponsored socialist economic model. Programs like unemployment insurance, Social Security and national health care are are common in the other industrial nations of the world. These countries have mixed economies like the US. The fact is that a collectivist government approach may be more effective than a fragmented corporatist approach like the ones the insurance companies have established for health care.
You have to give the devil his due. Rubio is either a very convincing lair and or he actually a true believer in Republican ideology. The latter may be the case because he is first generation American.
It appears that the GOP changed from family values, the Bush Ownership society and now "The American Dream."
The American Dream is a middle class dream that the GOP is unlikely to fulfill.
The GOP American dream goes something like this: you have a class system of 'have nots,' 'haves' and 'have mores.' The educational system is there to produce workers for corporations and anything that is taught that dos not benefit a corporation is unnecessary.
The primary role of the government is to fight communism, socialism and social change in other parts of the world. War is good.
The GOP American dream continues: Every one should go to Church because people who are :God fearing ' will worry less about their pay and benefits and worry more about salvation.
All unions should be banned because it will reduce corporate profits.Unions are also socialistic. This does not correlate at all with the Democratic American dream of a fairer society that distributes the fruits of one's labor better and builds a stronger middle class.
The GOP American dream will have little benefit to the middle class and the poor.

Politics Daily: The Tea Party Isolation Chamber
First Joe Miller , an Alaskan Tea party candidate, stopped talking to the media and then his 'secruity team" apprehended and unlawfully detained a reporter at a public school forum. Miller should have known better because he is an attorney.
Then Christine O'Donnell threatens to sue a Delaware radio station if they post a recent interview of her on their web site.
The good news is that neither Tea party candidate is likely to be elected.

Miami Herald: Kendrick Meek reaffirms he's in Senate race to stay

Meek said he told Clinton that he was not going to bow out of the race. ```
That's your decision,''' Meek recalled Clinton telling him during a conversation backstage at a rally in Florida.
Realistically Meek has no chance of winning and he has been third in the three candidate race according to a variety of polls since the Florida primary ended. Meek should be attacking Marco Rubio, the front runner, instead of Charlie Crist.

WIN: NYU Grad Student Workers Get NLRB Hearing

NYU grad students who work as teaching and research assistant are getting a National Labor Relations Board hearing on their workplace rights. Hundreds of these grad student workers had a union contract in place when their collective bargaining rights were taken from them by a Bush administration NLRB decision.

NYT: Bill Clinton Tried to Get Meek to Drop Out of Florida senate race

Former President Bill Clinton last week tried to convince Kendrick Meek, the Democratic candidate for Senate in Florida, to drop out of the race. Mr. Meek changed his mind at the last minute.
A Clinton’s spokespersson, said the former president believed that Mr. Meek would not win on Tuesday. Clinton urged Meek to drop out and endorse indepndant Charlie Crist, the state’s governor. Crist is also in the race as an independant.
The Clinton effort hoped to prevent the state’s Senate seat from falling into the hands of Marco Rubio, the Republican who is leading both of his rivals in the polls.
“I will not drop out of this race for any reason,” Mr. Meek said at the time.
Mr. Clinton, who is a close friend of Mr. Meek, had come close to convincing him to drop out last week. The pair even came close to sMr. Meek had been expected to endorse Mr. Crist and hold a rally on Oct. 26.
Rightardia bleives Clinton made the right call. Meek has become at best a spoiler for Charlie Crist.

Meg Whitman wanted to portray a new Republican face to Latino voters. Then a controversy erupted over the undocumented maid she had fired.
A contest that had been too close to call shifted to a 48 percent to 42 percent lead for Brown, the attorney general and former two-term governor, a Rasmussen Reports poll released Oct. 23 showed. anotehr pol showed brown with a double digit lead.
“She tries to be tough on undocumented people, then all of the sudden she has a work relationship with an undocumented,” Henrik Rehbinder, editorial page editor of La Opinion, the largest Spanish-language U.S. newspaper, said in a telephone interview.
Whitman’s own polling showed she “took a hit,” said spokesman Hector Barajas, one of six Hispanics in senior staff positions on her team. She trailed Brown by 20 points among Latinos, according to an Oct. 22 campaign memo.
Meg Whitman faced backlash on Tuesday after she declined a request to take down attack ads currently airing on behalf of her campaign against Democratic rival candidate and former Gov. Jerry Brown.
NBC's Matt Lauer raised the idea of both candidates pulling their negative campaign spots from the airwaves. Brown said he would comply with the request so long as Whitman would as well.
"If Meg wants to do that, I'll be happy to do that. We can have a little discussion today and I'm sure we can work something out," explained the Democratic hopeful.
Whitman at first tried to draw a line between personal attacks and record attacks, which Lauer dismissed as a "question of semantics" and pressed her again.Whitman said:
I will take down any ads that could be even remotely be construed as a personal attack, but I don't think we can take down ads that talk about where Gov. Brown stands on the issues," Whitman said, to boos.

Those nagging whispers warning that the United States is heading for an Argentina-like currency crisis are getting louder. The prospect of a prolonged devaluation of the US dollar is just one more challenge in what has already been a difficult period for savers and investors. TAMPA BAY--Despite the constant blitz of television political ads, general public interest in the upcoming election can be summed up as being somewhere between chirping crickets and a dull thud.
Although the Republican Party is set to turn out its hard core voters, including Tea Partiers, on Election Day, the same cannot be said for independents, some Democrats, and those who usually only vote in presidential elections.
They are staying home on November 2 in large numbers, not happy with any of the choices and uninspired by the rhetoric from leaders of both parties including President Obama and GOP mouthpieces like Sarah Palin and Newt Gingrich.
In North Carolina's Research Triangle Park, there is no where near the number of yard signs as seen in past elections. When found, the signs are usually for local county candidates.
The same ho-hum apathy among potential voters can also be seen in South Carolina and Georgia during a season when many people are more focused on college football than on national or local politics.
Last month, President Obama termed Democratic voter apathy "inexcusable." That apathy is now seen as tipping the balance in close races to the Republicans.
In Florida, mainstream voters are disgusted with the choices of candidates, especially Republican gubernatorial candidate Rick Scott, who was CEO of Columbia/HCA when it was forced to pay $1.7 billion in civil and criminal fines in 1997 for Medicare fraud.
Many voters in health service industry-conscious Florida see Scott as a corporate criminal who wants the voters to forget about his role in a major corporate fraud scheme.
Scott's previous criminality has his Democratic opponent Alex Sink, the chief financial officer for Florida, hoping that voters upset with President Obama will, at least, turn out to vote for her in an effort to keep Scott from becoming governor.
However, in the race for the US Senate in the Sunshine state, voters appear to be turned off by the three major candidates, Republican gusano Marco Rubio from Miami; Governor Charlie Crist and Republican-turned-independent; and Democratic congressman Kendrick Meek, a uninspiring and lackluster African-American candidate whose candidacy in a three-way race is seen as certain to keep the Senate seat in GOP hands.
Rightardia doesn't see Meek a lackluster. We see him as a spoiler for Charlie Crist. Had Meek not run, Crist would be the next senator from Florida and he would have been able to work with President Obama. Marco Rubio is an 'in-the-box" Republican.

Illinois Senate Tea Party Candidate says Black Men Prefer Drug Dealing To Education

Republican Party leaders in central Illinois are calling on their own candidate for state senate to step down following racist remarks he made at a candidate's forum.
Al Reynolds, who is considered the Tea Party candidate in Illinois' 52nd District, has been unavailable to the media since saying that African American men preferred dealing drugs to going to college, because it is "easier."
"I've been in the city and the dichotomy of the women and the men in the minorities, there is a difference in the fact that most minority women, either the single parent or coming from a poor neighborhood, are motivated more so than the minority men," Reynolds said, when asked what he would do to increase diversity at state colleges. "And it's a pretty good reason. Most of the women who are single parents have to find work to support their family. The minority men find it more lucrative to be able to do drugs or other avenues rather than do education. It's easier."
The room was silent as Reynolds made his remarks.
The GOP has successfully dismantled affirmative action at colleges at several states and minority enrolment has declined significantly since affirmative Action programs were established in the 1980s.

“Our teleservice centers handle more than 60 million calls each year and we are facing an ever increasing demand for our services as more and more baby boomers reach retirement age,” Commissioner Astrue said.
The new Jackson call center will help us further improve service to the millions of Americans who call our toll-free number. The new permanent federal jobs we are bringing to Jackson and the State of Tennessee are an added benefit for the area.
The Jackson TSC will provide additional capacity the agency needs in the Eastern and Central time zones, where more than two-thirds of the calls to Social Security’s toll-free number originate. Social Security currently has 33 TSCs operating in locations all across the country.
All centers take calls from throughout the U.S. and provide service via Social Security’s national toll-free number, 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778). Live service is available from 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Automated service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Social Security is working closely with the General Services Administration to build the new TSC. The Jackson call center will be located at 257 BancorpSouth Parkway and is expected to open by late 2011.

Israel is denying that the legal basis is not biblical based because they aren't really "the Chosen people."
Here is the legal basis for the state of Israel according to Palestine Facts.org:
But there is a legal background to the State of Israel. The Declaration of Israel's Independence, issued at Tel Aviv on May 14, 1948, recites the legal history that led to the founding of Israel as an internationally recognised sovereign state:
- The land of Israel was the birthplace of the Jewish people. Here their spiritual, religious and national identity was formed. Here they achieved independence and created a culture of national and universal significance. Here they wrote and gave the Bible to the world.
- In the year 1897 the First Zionist Congress, inspired by Theodor Herzl's vision of the Jewish State, proclaimed the right of the Jewish people to national revival in their own country.
- This right was acknowledged by the Balfour Declaration of November 2, 1917, and re-affirmed by the Mandate of the League of Nations, which gave explicit international recognition to the historic connection of the Jewish people with Palestine and their right to reconstitute their National Home.
- On November 29, 1947, the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted a Resolution for the establishment of an independent Jewish State in Palestine, and called upon the inhabitants of the country to take such steps as may be necessary on their part to put the plan into effect. This recognition by the United Nations of the right of the Jewish people to establish their independent State may not be revoked. It is, moreover, the self-evident right of the Jewish people to be a nation, as all other nations, in its own sovereign State.

November 29, 1947 did not establish of an independent Jewish State in Palestine. The UN agreed to study the issue in the resolution.
Israel exists because it was able to defeat Arab armies in the middle east. It is as simple as that. There is no clear legal basis for the existence of Israle.
This is one time that we agree with the Vatican. there is no biblical basis for the existence of Israel. Even if there were such basis, the history of the region does not always dovetail well with the Bible.
