The GOP is hiring Internet trolls

One of the Hilary 2016 FB pages was getting hammered by trolls. The group moderator found this and posted it on his FB page. This "national" ad was posted on Craiglist.

Rightardia editorial: Why the GOP doesn't get it

by Eric Elder

To really understand the predicament the GOP is in, you must go back to the Voting Rights Act in mid-60s and perhaps even back to the Great Depression in which Democrats gained political control of the country. An alliance between the liberals in the NE and the conservative Democrats in the South kept the GOP at bay until the Voting Rights Act was passed.

The Voting Right Act of 1965 landmark piece of national legislation that outlawed discriminatory voting practices that had been responsible for the widespread disenfranchisement of African Americans in the U.S.

The aftermath was that the conservative Democrats or Dixiecrats either left the democratic party or became Republicans. LBJ thought it would take 10 years for the Democrats to recover. It actually took closer to 30 years. At one stretch, the GOP had held the white House for 20 of 28 years.

The GOP may have believed its brilliance had turned the US into a conservative country. Actually, the rise of the GOP in the 1980s was because of the Voting Rights Act which split the Democratic Party.

Conservatives savored their victories in the 1980s and 1990s with purity tests and purges of moderates in their party using the Club for Growth who challenged moderate GOP incumbents in primaries. If the incumbent survived, he or she had little left of the war chest to fight the Democrat in the general election.

Bill Clinton restored the Democrats to the white house and Al Gore should have won in 2000. GW Bush went into the White House as a minority president and lead the country into the Great Recession with two unfunded was and his conservative tax program that accelerated the deficit as well.

Meanwhile, demographic shifts that had been predicted showed up early in the 2010 census. Latins were the fastest growing population. In the US, there were record levels of black voters, as well rising numbers of minority voters, that turned out at the polls just as the white vote is declining.

As Allan Lichtman, a presidential historian at American University in Washington, said, “the GOP [is] on the wrong side of history, demographically speaking.”

The GOP tired to slow down this Democratic voting onslaught bey changing the voting laws in several states, most of which were red. It didn't work.

The GOP hasn't a adapted to these changes and this new political reality in America. Perhaps some see the Obama victories as a fluke. Believe me, hey were not. Democrats were stoked in the last two elections and we wanted to see GOP blood running in the streets.

It's not going to get better for the GOP. It's possible the party may altogether disappear. The belief of many party leaders that conservative principles are sound and just a little image tweaking is needed will fail. The GOP's turn to the right is also a nonstarter.

The Democratic Party has fully recovered from the Voting Rights Act. We paid a huge political price, but it was the right thing to do. Our black, Latin and Asian turned the tide for us in the last election. So did the women and LGBT voters.

It is a brave new political world. The GOP must adapt or die.

It will no longer be able to function in the alternative universe it has created for itself atop bullshit mountain.

The GOP ain't what it used to be

The GOP isn't what it used to be by a long shot. Bob Dole knows and so do a lot of other senior Republicans.

The only thing that will pull the Republicans out of this far right stupor is a huge electoral defeat. It is coming.

This is not my nation anymore

SECESSIONISTS

"This is not my nation any more.

This is not my America!" they say.

Don't laugh- they're probably right.

Because if you believe that America in the 21st century should function under the same assumptions and with the same values as America in the 18th century...

Then no, this actually isn't your America any more.

If you believe that "Freedom of religion" means that you have the right to make decisions about health care, family planning, equal rights, evolution and education for people who do not share your religion...

You're in the wrong place.

If you believe that black people vote for a black man only because of race but white people never vote for a white guy because of his race...

If you believe that a 90 year old veteran who has been voting for 50 years should be denied a ballot because he no longer has a driver's license...

Then it's not your America any more.

If you believe that bullying and abuse is ok as long as you do it for Jesus, and that kids are better off in orphanages than with gay parents and that rape shouldn't be an 'excuse' for an abortion because some girls rape easy...

This is not your America.

If you believe that the working poor, pensioners and veterans in America just want 'free stuff' but the wealthy demand their personal income tax cuts for the good of the nation...

No, this is not your America.

If you think you have the right to say who other people can love...

This isn't that place.

And if you believe that it's not possible for your candidate to lose an election unless the "urban" people cheated...by voting... that an acceptable way to win is to try to stop as many people as possible from voting, that "bipartisan' means that all the wrong people are supposed to do things your way and that the "United" part of "United States of America" only applies when your party is running the show...

Then you don't understand what America is.

It's not a country where you can just 'opt out' when things don't go your way, and where a bunch of people whining that they want to leave will make us turn our backs on our principles.

It's not a place where beginning a sentence with "I'm not a racist' makes it OK to call the President a ni**er.

It's not a country where a rich, privileged old man can attack a young woman's character in vicious and almost pornographic simply because he disagrees with her politics and not suffer consequences.

It's not a place where we believe that a helping hand in the middle of a natural disaster should come with a pricetag..

It's not a nation where we think it's OK for poor people to die from treatable diseases because millionaire CEO's don't want to cut into their profits.

And thankfully, it's not a nation where bitter, obscenely wealthy men can buy themselves an election.

You folks are the same people who yell "America- love it or leave it" at us every time we try to fix what's broken around here.

Now, it seems like you don't love it enough to stick around and work together.

Well, we're not trying to run you out, but you are certainly free to go.

Of course you don't get to take your state with you- sorry, but that 'Constitution' thing you're always going on about says the states stay together.

And you don't get the flag you're always waving; that belongs to America.

But you can leave, if that's really what you want.

The border is that-a-way.

Has the GOP become a cargo cult?

cargo cult is a  religious movement that occurred after third world natives had contacts with colonial powers.

The natives believed that various ritualistic acts will lead to a bestowing of material wealth ("cargo")

The most widely known examples of cargo cult activity occurred among the Melanesian islanders in the years during and after World War II.

The natives islanders observed, often right in front of their dwellings, the largest war ever fought by technologically advanced first world nations. First, the Japanese arrived with a great deal of supplies and later the Allied forces invaded the islands.

The vast amounts of materiel were airdropped (or airlifted to airstrips) to troops on these islands. This resulted in drastic changes to the lifestyle of the islanders, Manufactured clothing, medicine, canned food, tents, weapons and other goods arrived. The soldiers, who often shared some of this largesse with the islanders, who were their guides and hosts.

"What are Cargo Cult Republicans? Cargo Cult Republicans are those whose behavior and beliefs have devolved into a quasi-religious mindset towards Modern American Conservatism revolving around the 1980’s and Ronald Reagan in an idealized, ritualized and unrealistic way."

Cargo cult Republicans worship the rich, guns and Jesus. However, many of their Christian beliefs are peculiar, ever heretical. A good example is the prosperity  theology of Benny Hin and Joel Osteen.

Pat Boone was an early  proponent of this idea. He suggested his religiosity was the main reason he made a financial recovery.

Prosperity theology or gospel is a Christian religious doctrine that financial blessing is the will of God for Christians, and that faith, positive speech, and donations to Christian ministries will always increase one's material wealth.

Based on non-traditional interpretations of the Bible, often with emphasis on the Book of Malachi, the doctrine views the Bible as a contract between God and the faithful.   If you have faith in God, he will deliver his promises of prosperity.

Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. (Malachi 3:10)

A common passage that prosperity Christians will quote is

Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. (Matthew 7:7)

Tim Tebow is a good example. This theology explains the curious tebowing of Tim Tebow. By publicly displaying his faith in a football stadium, God will empower him to be a better quarterback and bring more victories to his team.

This GOP cargo cult theology is heavily materialist. While conventional Christians often believe their good deeds will lead to heaven, the prosperity cargo cutlers think their faithfulness will benefit them in their daily lives.

The GOP cargo cultists not only hold unconventional theological beliefs, their political though is also centered around conservative ideological beliefs.

This may explain why many think GW Bush was a good president and why conservatives think supply side economics work. The Cargo culters believe they will be rewarded by both God and the rich by being faithful to both. Material rewards will be bestowed to them by the worship of God, guns and the affluent.

This is actually low level pre-conventional moral reasoning according to Lawrence Kohlberg, a developmental psychologist and moral philosopher. Kohlberg described this type of thinking as naive reciprocity,

At this stage of moral development, children and some adults judge actions based on how they serve individual needs. Reciprocity occurs at this point in moral development, but only if it serves one's own interests.

It's a you scratch my back philosophy and I'll scratch yours. A church goer might think by attending church and making donations that God will reward him or her with a prosperous life style.

The essence of prosperity theology is simplistic, low level moral reasoning based on naive reciprocity.

Hasn't the RNC learned anything?

The RNC is trying to raise money and if you donate $5 or more, they will send you the following bumper sticker.

Rightardia has suggested the Republican party would be wise not the mention GW Bush at all. He was not present at the RNC presidential convention at Tampa and was absent in the Romney campaign for president. He didn't even show for the second inauguration of Obama.

Jeb Bush tired to unsuccessfully to revise his brother by suggesting he was really not responsible for the Great Recession. Well, GW and his administration was. the facts are undeniable.

Two unfunded wars that were hid from the Defense budget with supplemental appropriations, tax cuts that gave the most affluent Americans a $64,000 tax break and another unfunded program, the Medicare Part D Prescription Drug program.  Mix that in with the Bush (home) Ownership society  and the cause of the great recession is pretty clear.

A George mason Poll of historians rated GW Bush as the worst president ever. Wikipedia places GW bsuh is the bottom quartile of presidents. More than 80 per cent of 415 historians regard his presidency as failure.

The Republican attempt to revive this man's reputation is doomed for failure. Better to let this sleeping job lie.

Democrats were cutting jokes all over the place when the Bush Lie-berry opened. Some said the library contained mostly fiction titles, Others wondered where the comic and coloring book sections were. in this library.

The Republican Party continues to be the Party of the Stupid, a term Paul Krugman coined.

The RNC bumper sticker is a testimony to this.

Happy Mother's day from Rightardia

Having children is the most wonderful thing a woman can do.

My Mother Kept A Garden
My Mother kept a garden,
a garden of the heart,
She planted all the good things
that gave my life it's start.
She turned me to the sunshine
and encouraged me to dream,
Fostering and nurturing
the seeds of self-esteem...
And when the winds and rain came,
she protected me enough-
But not too much because she knew
I'd need to stand up strong and tough.
Her constant good example
always taught me right from wrong-
Markers for my pathway
that will last a lifetime long.
I am my Mother's garden.
I am her legacy-
And I hope today she feels the love
reflected back from me
