The Libertarian Scam

Rightardia has been following the libertarian movement since the 1960s. Rightardia has read both Atlas Shrugged and the Fountainhead. We consider both to be more like romance novels than political novels.

The author, Ayn Rand, was Russian Jewish immigrant who had experienced Stalinism first hand. Her novels were anti -Stalinist and anti-collectivist. Her novel empathized the importance of the individual. The Fountainhead's protagonist, Howard Roark, is an individualistic young architect who chooses to struggle in obscurity rather than compromise his artistic and personal vision.

Neither novel caught on in the academic circles across America. The were other people who also atered to the the GOP out crowd during the Depression and World War 2. Another was Abraham Vereide, a Scandinavian minister, who came to he Us to fight godless communism. He was the founder of the National Prayer Breakfast

Rand's book were the impetus for a Libertarian Party, This is what the Libertarian Party advocated in 1980.

One of the Koch  brothers was running for VP of the Libertarian Party at that time which might provide a clue who is really behind this movement.

Both liberal and libertarian have the prefix "liber" in them, but liberalism and libertarinism have little in common in the modern world. Steve Kangas said when the nation was founded, both liberals and libertraisn were the same. Of course , you could accuse Kangas of being present minded, the Libertarian movement didn't start until after World War 2.

The Libertarian Scam

The libertarian scam works this way. Many liberals are really libertarians. Go take this test on the Political Compass and you will see.

The Political Compass test is horribly flowed.
The Political Compass test is flawed

First of all the opposite of authoritarian is not libertarian, it is egalitarian or democratic. The concept of a libertarian left and a right is also suspect.  Almost all liberals who take the test will fall into the lower left hand quarter. The test really makes no distinction in this test between liberals and libertarians.

As far as Rightardia can tell, the majority of libertarians are fascists and fall on the extreme right of the political spectrum. Most have the same sentiments as Tea Partiers, ditto heads and militia.

The distinction`libertarians have with other conservatives is that most are not pro-defense and are against Us military adventures abroad. This was very apparent during the GOP primary season when hawkish establishment Republicans went after Ron Paul.

Libertarians want liberals to think the two movements are similar, but they really have little in common. The libertarian movement does not appear to be growing in conservative circles. Perhaps, it is hoping to attract liberals into the movement with the premise that liberals and libertarians have much in common.

Liberals have also asked if libertarianism is such a fabulous political philosophy, why are there no modern libertarian nations?

One bloke form the UK suggested that the US was libertarian nation in the early 20th century prior to the depression. That was the era of the the big trusts, union activism, child labor and the muckrakers. Theodore Roosevelt broke up the large trusts, and union activism helped build a middle calls in the US.

The era prior to the Great Depression was a tough item for Americans. The Roaring 20's could also be described as more libertine than libertarian. It was also an ear in which three consecutive GOP presidents led the US into the Great Depression.

Rightrdia's view is that this libertarian movement is withering. Men like Rand Paul and Paul Ryan claim to be libertarians, but few Republicans accept either as true libertarians.

Rightardia was on a libertarian FB page and asked who the libertarians if there was real libertarian who had been elected to public office.

Their answer was Sen. Bernie Saunders, a socialist , who caucuses with Democrats.

Rightardia editorial: How conservatives can communicate on FB with liberals.

Rightardia boots trolls, lurkers and posers off of this FB page several times a week.

Many  of the conservatives want a debate with the hope they an proselytize someone to their way of thinking. Unfortunately for them, Rightardia is not a debate site in the traditional sense.

We do allow debates within the big Democratic tent. We don't allow partisan debates between liberals and conservatives. We don't visit conservative sitea to proselytize. so we don't allow conservatives to do this on the Rightardia FB page either.

The owner of the page has been a conservative and he has heard these tired old right wing arguments for years. He simply does not believe current  conservatism is a valid political philosophy that has a rationale economic basis. This country simply does not need more deregulation, privatization or militarization.

If you are a troll, poser or lurker, suggest you follow some of the recommendations if you want to stay on this site.

1. First and foremost, Don't defend GW Bush. He was a bad president. Michel Smerconish once called him the second worst president in US history. Wikipedia has rated him in the bottom 25 per cent of presidents and in a George Mason study of US historians, 60 per cents said the Bush presidency was a failure. Conservatives will find few friends on on this page with contrarian opinion about Bush. Liberals and progressives despise GW Bush.

2. Don't try to use conservative media to bolster your case. Most of the people here consider Fox News to be a propaganda organ or the RNC and Wall street. Ditto for the hate radio jocks such as Rush Limbaugh or Micheal Savage. Media Matters tracks the mutterings of these people. Their opinions have no credibility in this page.

3. Don't try to pass yourself as an expert with facts and then offer only opinion. Liberals and progressives get much of their data from international media, Wikipedia, Snopes, FactCheck and Politifact.  If you want to express a contrary opinion, use a reputable source not Conservapedia or Fox News.

$. Avoid religious based arguments. We have a large non-believer and non-affiliated participation on this page, Expect to be attacked if you use Biblical based arguments which Rightrdia considers to irrelevant to modern American life.

6. Avoid ad hominem attacks. References to the the president as Obummer or Hiilary as Hitlelry will get you immediately blocked.

7. Understand the political spectrum. Most of the friends and followers here understand the difference between a socialist and fascist. Don't try to blur the distinction.

Rightardia is very aware that most conservatives cannot grasp liberal thought and few really have any interest in our view point. We also know there are far more Democrats than conservatives. To win an election, we do not need to proselytize Republicans. Having worked in OFA in both the 2008 and 2012 election,  Democrats were instructed not to call Republicans.

Think about this for a minute. We don't need Republican votes to win elections, but you need Democratic. That's why your politicians are always looking for those Reagan Democrats every election!

FB post that Rigtardia really appreciates.

  • There are several types I find in this world.

There's the brilliant but humble and these are the best type to be around. But then there's the brilliant but arrogant, they're annoying but worth the effort.

Then there's the ignorant but humble and those, God Bless them, at least want to do better.

The worst, by far, are the ignorant but arrogant. Those bastards mess up the entire world with their nonsense but there's no explaining that fact to them.

We could use a lot fewer of those.

Russia demonstrates the S-300 air defense system

There is an export version of this system called the S-300P that Russia will sell to Syria. Iran is currently suing the Russians for $ 4 billion  because it failed to deliver this missile.

See http://en.rian.ru/military_news/20120801/174912552.html

S-300 SAM missile systems successfully repelled a mass air strike launched by an “aggressor” at the Ashuluk training ground near Astrakhan.

Watch this RIA Novosti video for glimpses of the surprise maneuvers.
