Mario Piperni.com: The great Tea Party government shut-down

The split between the country clubbers and the Tea Baggers will be apparent in the next election cycle.

Michael Gerson, conservative columnist   writes:

Obama’s (budget) offer is more than reasonable. A $30 billion reduction, after all, was the initial Republican negotiating position back in early February.

Given that Republicans control only the House, this level of cuts would normally be viewed as a remarkable success.

But a portion of the Republican conference longs for a confrontation that results in a government shutdown, preferring a fight over a victory.

And the only worse outcome for Boehner than a politically risky shutdown is a deeply split conference, pitting the Republican establishment against Tea Party purists — a result that would undermine all future Republican progress.

So Obama has managed to turn Republicans against each other and ensure they would be (justifiably) blamed for a shutdown.

This will be the third government shut-down  since 1990, all caused by the GOP congresses.  Up to now there have been only four government shut-downs in US history.

Rightardians don't drink tea

But rightards do! Are you tired of drinking tea, yet?

 Tea Party trickle down

Rightardia was amused by the staged protests of the Tea Party. They had a corporate look compared to the spontaneous demonstrations that arose in Madison, WI.

Pew poll: Republican fissures on funding issues

Contributing Editor, Politics Daily

The challenges facing the Republican leadership is to contend with an 87-member freshman class composed of many outspoken conservatives and those who identify with the Tea Party movement . . .

The Tea Party freshmen appear to be ditto heads and ideologues, but at least they respect he US Constitution and voted against continuing provision in the Patriot Act which including roving wire taps without warrants.

These Tea Partiers want deeper budget cuts which for now, have resulted in defeats for what seemed like certain-to-pass legislation. They are also ideologically opposed to any social programs. See a graphic of the Pew survey results:

The Tea party sent Rightardia an email requesting a monthly donation

This is an interesting email that is written at an abstract level and is very short on specifics. The writer implies that something is really wrong in Washington, but never identifies specifically what that is.

Apparently the Tea party is running out of funds. Rightardia suspects the billionaires that started the movement are backing away from the Tea Party because a civil war is brewing between the country club Republican insiders and the Tea Party Young Turks.

No offense is meant to the liberal organization, the Young Turks (tm). We have put some Rightardia comments in Italics to show how this is essentially a piece of propaganda.

The Tea Party Letter

The good news is emerging; cadres of invisible Patriots are empowering the Tea Party, working tirelessly behind the scenes to restore America. The names of the invisible Patriots carry no political weight, they do not seek glory, their acts will never be recorded in history books, but they are indispensable in the fight against the darkness which covers America today. These invisible Patriots are the Tea Party Guardians, guarding all we hold dear.

A lot of words, but low in content. Cadres of invisible patriots? Is this like the Nixon 'silent majority" that the GOP knew was really a small minority?

What is the Tea party really guarding?

Rightardia believes the TP's are trying to restore the glory days of the US which are now several decades behind us. Conservatives have always looked at America through the rear view mirror.

They have a point. The 1950s were the glory days but that was due to the efforts of FDR and the Democrats who were elected after the GOP led the country and the world into the Great Depression.

You see, the acts of the Tea Party Guardians are etched upon our memories and will be passed down to future generations in the form of folk stories and tales of greatness.

This is suggested in some high school history books, but The US was actually a debtor nation until after World War 1. We were a creditor nation for about 70 years before we got debtor status again.

Their humble beginnings were slated in courageous acts just a few short years ago, when the term 'Tea Party' was new and fresh. At a time most people thought a Tea Party was either a dusty page in our history books stemming from the acts in 1773 or a garden party of old ladies wearing funny hats, sipping tea.

We agree with Bill Maher that the Founders were the nations first liberal elite and they would have little in common with the Tea Party crowd. The Founders hung out in Paris, most were wealthy and they had little use for organized religion.

Surprisingly enough, one day, as if by Divine design, good-hearted Citizens across America could no longer stomach the vile disembowelment of our Constitution by those elected to protect it.

Wow! Please provide an example where the US Constitution has been disembowelled.

Bush ignored the Constitution with his Patriot Act and his bugging of the Internet. Bush also conducted wire taps without warrants. Conservatives looked the other way when this blatantly unconstitutional activities occurred during the Bush presidency.

Give Obama some credit. he is a constitutional attorney and understands the US constitution a lot better than the political hack who wrote this email.

Listen up, as if by one voice a few said; "I'm As Mad As Hell And I'm Not Going To Take It Any-more." Out of frustration and anger, rag-tag groups of Moms, Dads, Grandparents and Singles, ordinary people dared to believe they could change the status quo. It was then the first idea of an empowered Citizenry was reborn.

Mad as hell about what? Be specific. Are you mad the GOP got walloped in the 2008 elections or mad that a black man was elected president?

Yes, reborn was the memory of how our beloved nation was once a grand country filled with great people, bearing ostentatious dreams. A glimmer of hope raced across our 'Nations-soul' screaming for the rekindling of faith in our flag, allegiance to our nation and obedience to our sacred Constitution. A spark of hope began to glow like a tiny ember fighting for brilliance on a sodden and barren land.

We were a better nation before Reagannomics and  the GOP started its no taxes on the affluent agenda. We were a better nation when we made TVs, refrigerators, and washers and dryers in the US, but the corporations offshored the plants and the jobs. Don't blame that on the Democrats. Our own US corporations did us in, not the government.

Reagnomics actually fractured the middle class and forced spouses into the  work force to make ends meet. Mom was no longer home to work with her children on home work and the long slide of US education began.

This is also the era when the US deficit and national debt began to rise because the government was raising insufficient revenues. During the Reagan era, the US spent billions invading Grenada, and intervening in Nicaragua, El Salvador and Chile.

Only 32 US economists in the US subscribe to Reaganomics or supply side economics. Why? Because it is Trojan Horse to provide unneeded tax cuts to the affluent.

Our corporations also caused the financial crises that created the Great Recession. Of course, deregulation efforts of the GOP and some Blue Dog Democrats helped to accelerate the crash.

Truthfully, could 'We The People' once again rise up and fulfill those lofty dreams which were penned in 1776? Shall we defy the Washington Pharisees and become the generation which will once again, shape our Beloved Nation, and the world as well? Should we dare to dream? 'We The People' have the power to change, shape and perfect our precious Freedom which was entrusted to us centuries ago by our heroic Founding Fathers.

The Founders gave us a constitution that defined our government. Much has changed since then and the American dream is hardly universal for all Americans.

So instead of wishful thinking, could we once again hold our heads high, bow to no one and declare; 'WE THE PEOPLE RULE'? The faith of the few began to grow, first in living-room meetings, then across telephone lines, cell phone conference calls until bursting out at the seams, we flowed into rented halls and then to our streets.

Silently, 'We The People' began to rise up against the entrenched Washington oligarchy, unified our voices, our efforts and our will into one cohesive movement, not just of people, but of souls filled with the dream of Freedom.

Bill Maher: 'Don't Censor Huckleberry Finn'

In a new episode of "Real Time," set to air this Friday, Bill Maher says:

Don't censor Huckleberry Finn...hearing there are bad words in it is the only reason teenagers do read it.

The right wants 'political correctness, don't they. In Texas, they wanted Thomas Jefferson out of the text books because his legacy doesn't support the Christian nation myth. In Tennessee, the Tea Party wants to pull references about slavery from the colonial period so the reputations of The Founders aren't besmirched.

Now the right wants to censor Mark Twain. Watch for more book burnings. One right wing minister already wanted to burn the Koran.

Leave the text books to the scholars. We don't need historical revisionism in our classrooms.

NYTimes.com: Tea Party angry at GOP leaders

By KATE ZERNIKE Published: January 1, 2011

As Tea Party politicos prepare to take their seats when the 112th Congress convenes this week, they are already taking issue with Republicans for failing to hold the line against the legislation enacted in the waning weeks of Democratic control of the House of Representatives.

The GOP leadership in the House ignored candidates backed by Tea Party groups powerful committee positions.

Just a month ago, Tea Party leaders were celebrating their movement’s victories in the midterm elections.

As Congress wrapped up an unusually productive lame-duck session last month, Tea Party leaders were lamenting that Washington behaved ignored them.

In their final days controlling the House, Democrats succeeded in passing legislation that Tea Party leaders opposed, including a bill to cover the cost of medical care for rescue workers at the site of the World Trade Center attacks, an arms-control treaty with Russia, a food safety bill and a repeal of the ban on gay men and lesbians serving openly in the military.

Rightardia predicts that a civil war will break out between the Tea Party congressional members and the country club Republicans who are already in the House.

The civil war will continue on during the 20102 election cycle when Country club Republicans will try to torpedo the candidacy of Sarah Palin and push Mitt Romney onto Republican voters.

Usenet editorial: You know you're a teabagger if . . .

You are at a rally having your little hissy fit over all the rights Barack Obama has taken from you, but cannot name a single right that has actually been taken from you by Barack Obama.

You think Congressman Joe Wilson is a hero because he yelled "You lie!" when Barack Obama said there were no provisions in proposed healthcare legislation that provided free healthcare to illegal immigrants.  even though

Congressman Wilson himself voted for the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement and Modernization Act of 2003, which provided taxpayer-funded reimbursements to hospitals that treated illegal immigrants who didn't have insurance.

Your only sources of information are Tea Party websites and Fox News.

You swoon with admiration as Sarah Palin proclaims President Obama "Barack the Wealth Spreader", while you remain blissfullly ignorant to the fact she brags about the number of annual checks she doled out as governor of Alaska to nearly every resident.

This represented the Alaskan citizens share of the revenues from the state's oil riches. She boosted those checks by raising taxes on oil.

You claim Barack Obama's czars are unconstitutional and are turning the country towards socialism,  yet you had no problem with the 30+ czars President Bush employed during his administration.

You ridicule supporters of Barack Obama as "brainwashed" and "kool-Aid drinking Obama worshippers," yet you turn all glassy-eyed and weak-kneed and break down in tears of rapture at the mere mention of Sarah Palin's name.

You stomp your feet and shake your fist at all the taxes Barack Obama has imposed on you, but cannot name a single tax that Barack Obama has actually imposed on you.

You are unaware of the fact that VA Healthcare, Medicare and Medicaid are socialized healthcare programs while you are demanding an end to socialized healthcare programs.

You whine about the awful people calling you bad names while wearing a "Chairman ObaMAO" t-shirt and holding a sign that reads "Barack Obama is a fascist" on one side, on the other is a picture of Barack Obama with a Hitler moustache or Joker paint on his face.

You applaud the speaker at your rally after he declares only true Americans can claim a right to be in this country and that all non-true Americans should be sent back where they came from "with a bullet in their head".

You idolize Marsha Blackburn as the new savior of the constitution yet ignore the fact her voting record clearly shows she has consistantly voted in favor of federal legislation (i.e. Patriot Act) that guts the constitution.

You cannot understand why or how your hypocritical, ignorant and uninformed criticisms of Barack Obama expose you as a racist.

The Tea Party snowman

The white separatist snowman builder also angered residents in the past by flying Aryan Nations flags at his home. At Halloween he passed out bullet casings after he said he ran out of candy.

The snowman is holding a noose.

Tea Party has radical ideas on the US Constitution

By Eric W. Dolan Tuesday, November 30th, 2010 -- 1:56 pm
Tea Party Nation President Judson Phillips said denying the right to vote to those who do not own property "makes a lot of sense" during a weekly radio program.

"The Founding Fathers originally said, they put certain restrictions on who gets the right to vote," Phillips said. "It wasn't you were just a citizen and you got to vote . . ."

"If you're not a property owner, you know, I'm sorry but property owners have a little bit more of a vested interest in the community than non-property owners."

Approximately 33% of Americans are renters, according to the National Multi-Housing Council.

During the same radio program, Phillips discussed with David DeGerolamo, the founder of tea party group North Carolina Freedom, the repeal of various constitutional amendments.

"Of course, when people talk, three Amendments that really are the only ones
that seriously get talked about getting repealed:
  1. The 16th Amendment, for the income tax, and we can only hope that happens
  2. The 17th Amendment for having the appointment of Senators got back to state legislatures;
  3. and the 26th Amendment, I believe it is," Phillips said. "Do you know which one that is, David?"
  4. "No, but I know which one I want repealed," responded DeGerolamo. "I want the 14th Amendment repealed."
The first clause of the 14th Amendment grants birthright citizenship to anyone born in the US, regardless of whether their parents are citizens.

The second and third clause prohibits the government from depriving persons of life, liberty, or property without due process and requires the government to provide equal protection under the law, respectively.

BTW the 26th Amendment states: The right of citizens of the United States, who are eighteen years of age or older, to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of age.

Aparently the Tea party wants to raise the voting age.

Wow! Is this what the GOP means by strict constructionist?

First of all, limiting the right to vote to property owners would disenfranchise the poor and minorities. What about men and women who served in the Armed forces, but did not own property? The Tea Baggers would deny these people the right to vote.

Second, a repeal of the 16th amendment might sounds like a good idea but it would be simply be replaced with another tax. How do these Tea Baggers think the Armed Forces are funded?

The appointment of senators by state legislature is anti-democratic and smacks of back room politics. The US is an indirect democracy and we don't need to make any more indirect.

Of course, changes to the 14th amendment would prevent anyone born in the US from automatically becoming a US citizen.

These are radical ideas that would never make it through both legislative branches. Considering the Republicans only control the House, these Tea Baggers seem to have a reality problem.

If you open up the Constitution with a constitutional convention, there are other amendments could be changed .

Democrats would like the second amendment to only apply to militias and the Citizens United ruling would also be addressed. Do Republicans really want to open this bucket or worms?

Matt Taibbi: Excerpt from The Tea Party Moron Complex

By Matt Taibbi, Random House Publishing Group
Posted on November 14, 2010, Printed on November 15, 2010

There are two reasons why Tea Party voters will probably never get wise to the Ponzi-scheme reality of bubble economics.

One has to do with the basic sales pitch of Tea Party rhetoric, which cleverly exploits Main Street frustrations over genuinely intrusive state and local governments that are constantly in the pockets of small businesses for fees and fines and
permits.

The other reason is obvious: the bubble economy is hard as hell to understand. To even have a chance at grasping how it works, you need to commit large chunks of time to learning about things like securitization, credit default swaps, collateralized debt obligations, etc., stuff that's fiendishly complicated and that if ingested too quickly can feature a truly toxic boredom factor.

So long as this stuff is not widely understood by the public, the Grifter class is going to skate on almost anything it does -- because the tendency of most voters, in particular conservative voters, is to assume that Wall Street makes its money engaging in normal capitalist business and that any attempt to restrain that sector of the economy is thinly disguised socialism.

That's why it's so brilliant for the Tea Party to put forward as its leaders some of the most egregiously stupid morons on our great green earth.

By rallying behind dingbats like Palin and Michele Bachmann -- the Minnesota congresswoman who thought the movie Aladdin promoted witchcraft and insisted
global warming wasn't a threat because "carbon dioxide is natural" -- the Tea Party has made anti-intellectualism itself a rallying cry.

The Tea Party is arguing against the very idea that it's even necessary to ask the kinds of questions you need to ask to grasp bubble economics.

RT: Flawed US economy works against people

RussiaToday | November 12, 2010
Republican victories in the recent US mid-term elections have highlighted the growing dissatisfaction with the current government.

RT spoke with Democrat Congressman Dennis Kucinich about the challenges the US is facing.

What we had was that Wall Street dictated a bailout. Wall Street dictated the terms of reforms. Wall Street was getting their banks taken care of and Main Street was losing jobs, income dropping, losing homes, and people are going to hold the party in power responsible - which is what they did.

Dennis Kucinich said that the structure of the US economy just does not work anymore for an average working person:

The American economic system, when it comes to delivering food to the practical aspirations of Americans, is falling apart. he

The economic system itself is the problem, and whether it's a Democrat or a Republican in charge of it, look, it is a faulty vehicle right now.

America has to go through a restructuring, because frankly, the way the economy is set up right now, is against the working people, it is against the middle class." He said that if Republicans and Democrats, the two major parties which have a responsibility to the American people, fail to deliver in the following two years - the tidal forces of voter anger are going to wash both parties out.

Many conservatives think Obama is socialist or far left, but progressives have a very different view of him. Most progressives hold views similar to Congressman Kucinich's. Obama was given a mandate but he didn't use it. He wasted time believing in bipartisanship. So far he has not brought home the progressive bacon.

He will lose his next election if he cannot inspire progressives. Rightardia got one email calling for the establishment of a real progressive party. Is this the real answer to the Tea Party?

Hillbilly Report's take on "Decison Points"

It sounds like some of the chapters in the Bush book are quite frank. The Hillbilly Report also talks about ear marks.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is maneuvering behind the scenes to defeat a conservative plan aimed at restricting earmarks, setting up a high-stakes showdown that pits the GOP leader and his "Old Bull" allies against Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) and a new breed of conservative senators.

Rightardia predicted this would happen. Only .5 per cent of the federal budget pertains to ear marks and no politician in their right mind would give them up. These projects bring home the bacon to the home districts. We suspect that the Tea Bag Senator DeMint, will lose this battle.

Politics Daily: The Tea Party Isolation Chamber

First Joe Miller , an Alaskan Tea party candidate, stopped talking to the media and then his 'secruity team" apprehended and unlawfully detained a reporter at a public school forum. Miller should have known better because he is an attorney.

Then Christine O'Donnell threatens to sue a Delaware radio station if they post a recent  interview of her on their web site.

The good news is that neither Tea party candidate is likely to be elected.
