Republicans Confront the Reality That America Just Isn't That Into Them

Having worked with OFA in both 2008 and 202, the Votebuilder technology was great but the legion of activist Democrats behind it is what made it work. The Democrats had more feet on the street and we had not interest in conceding the election to  a one per center like Mitt Romney.

Our bloggers and FB networking efforts were probably more effective than the GOP effort. I made an extensive effort to keep conservatives off my FB page because FB allows you to black other FB users.

After years of battling conservatives on Usenet, I knew the conservatives would disrupt my FB page if I would let them on it. . So I now have more than 100 peole blocked and my FB page consists mostly of constructive posts by liberal and progressives. I have several international posters, too.

The Rightardia blog and FB pages have  never been designed  to converting conservatives into liberals and progressives. There are more Democrats than Republicans. Why waste time with conservatives?

We just need to get our base out to vote and attract some independent and moderate voters. We don't need Republicans to win, particularly the establishment types, ditto heads or Tea Baggers.

We  organised and mobilized to win the last election. We don't need to convert Republican votes to Democrat.  But the GOP does need to convert some Democritus to win.

Mos Democrats are well-aware of the great conservative social contract that started with Ronald Reagan and ended with the Great Recession during the GW Bush administration. Supply side economics an deregulation didn't work.

Yes, Americans just aren't into Republicans anymore. The country tried the conservative way and it didn't work. In fact, most conservative ideas sucked badly!

US hegemony and the multinationals

The Us has milatray bases all over the world for "our defense. Russia wants more trade with us and China is also our biggest trading partner. So who is the threat?

In the past, the threat was to US corporations if a socialist government was elected as In Chile  the assumption of US Republican administrations was that nationalization would follow and US corporations would lose their assets in the country because of the new government.

It's really not that simple.  When a government nationalizes assets as Hugo Chavez did to the petroleum industry in Venezuela, the government does have to reimburse the corporations for he assets that were nationalized.

Often, a nationalized corporation will continue to do business in the country, but profits will be reduced.

Republican administrations like the Reagan one have preferred to subvert socialist governments. In the case of Chile  Salvador Allende was killed and replaced by a fascist dictator, Augusto Pinochet, a former military general.

However, many former American corporations are now longer US corporations  Many have relocated their corporate headquarters abroad  Other US companies have been bough by foreign owners. Budweiser and Lucent Technologies are examples. So in the world we now have these multinational corporations who now longer pay taxes in the US. Many have their corporate headquarters in Ireland and the Netherlands to take advantage of a low corporate income tax rate.

Why should the US military defend multinational corporations who don't even pay taxes in the US?

If a denominational needs help to protect international assets, let them go the to the Irish, Dutch or whatever other country the multinational has Incorporated in. If the corporation is not paying taxes to the US, our country has not obligation to protect them.

President Obama needs to take a hard look at out military bases and the threat to the US today. Does he  understand the rationale for having a military base in place like Peru.

More bases in Europe should also be closed. The Cold war has been over since the early 1980's. The Europeans do not perceive a threat from Russia today.

The US should help US corporations who have faculties in foreign countries, but the the use of military force and CIA coups has not had any long term benefits. It creates international ill will toward the US, something the US has not shortage of until Obama was elected.

The Taft-Hartley Act: How about some union deregulation?

Let's start with the Taft Hartley Act!

The amendments enacted in Taft-Hartley added a list of prohibited actions, or unfair labor practices, on the part of unions to the National labor Realtions Act (NLRA), which had previously only prohibited unfair labor practices committed by employers.

The Taft–Hartley Act prohibited jurisdictional strikes, wildcat strikes, solidarity or political strikes, secondary boycotts, secondary and mass picketing, closed shops, and monetary donations by unions to federal political campaigns.

It also required union officers to sign non-communist affidavits with the government.

What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

How about corporations that receive government contracts signing loyalty and anti-fascist oaths?

Union shops were heavily restricted, and states were allowed to pass right-to-work laws that outlawed closed union shops. Furthermore, the executive branch of the federal government could obtain legal strikebreaking injunctions if an impending or current strike imperiled the national health or safety, a test that has been interpreted broadly by the courts.

According to Wikipedia, smaller unions were affected as a result of the act, the labor movement as a whole was not greatly impeded by Taft-Hartley.

FOD: God made a factory farmer

If you watched the Superbowl or just the commercials, you likely saw Ram's commercial "God Made a Farmer" that aimed to tug at the heartstrings of rural America. For most viewers it rang of cheap co-option.

It was based on a Paul Harvey essay about farmers. Harvey was  a hard line conservative in his time.

Funny or Die has changed Harvey's work into something a little more palatable.

Join Emily's List to elect more Democratic women

You know I don't beat around the bush: we've got a lot of work ahead of us. We've got to win governors' races, reelect my friends Jeanne Shaheen and Kay Hagan to the Senate, and get that gavel back to Nancy Pelosi.

How are we going to get all this done? The same way I got to the Senate: with EMILY's List. The next election cycle is here. Women candidates need support now. And EMILY's List can't do it without you.

EMILY's List works to build a more progressive America for women and families by putting women where they belong: in the House, Senate, and governors' mansions. We need you to join today so EMILY's List can carry on this critical work.

By Friday at midnight, EMILY's List needs at least 20,000 people to step up and secure their 2013 membership. Let's make it happen for our Democratic women. Do it right now and get your EMILY's List membership locked in for the special, limited-time rate of $10.

When I ran for Senate in 1986, they tried to chase me out of the race. They said a woman couldn't raise enough money to win. And boy, did we ever prove them wrong.

With early money and dedicated members, EMILY's List changed the dynamic of the race -- and I won. And thanks to you, I'm no longer the lone Democratic woman in the Senate.

And after an historic 2012, EMILY's List helped send a record number of women to the Senate. Now we need you to help us keep going. We've got to roll up our sleeves, dig deep, and stay strong -- that's how EMILY's List gets it done. But we need you standing with us.

I'm asking you to join EMILY's List today and help hit this critical 2013 membership goal.

Thanks for being part of this history-making community.

Sincerely,

Senator Barbara Mikulski
