Republican tax cut fuzzy math

William Alden

NEW YORK --As part of a law passed late last year, the Bush-era tax cuts for the richest Americans were extended for two years. The estimated cost to the government of that portion of the tax deal, $42 billion this fiscal year, exceeds the stated $38 billion value of the savings from the federal budget cuts lawmakers approved last week.

But the extension of the tax breaks for the wealthy have proven more controversial, especially as job-creation has remained slow.

Under the extension, a family that earns between $500,000 and $1 million gets an average $25,000 tax break, according to the Tax Policy Center. A household earning more than $1 million gets more than $130,000.

During the next two years, tax cuts for the wealthy will cost the government about $120 billion and will create or save about 290,000 jobs, according to analysis by the White House-aligned research group Center for American Progress.

That's a cost of about $400,000 per job . . .

Rightardia has talked about this before and this article proves that tax cuts for the affluent are inefficient. Moody's analytics Mark Zandi had said as much. He was the author of the chart that follows:

It is clear programs like food stamps, infrastructure spending and extending unemployment insurance provide more bang for the federal bucks. These are all classic Democratic approaches to a sluggish economy.

RDR: Midterm madness

The GOP is poised to take control of the House. this will,in fact, slow the recovery because they Republicans will want dysfunctional tax cuts for the 'have mores' and increased defense spending.

Both will add to the deficit.

Republican Dirty Tricks: Pay no attention to the oligarchy behind the curtain

We just want America to return to the 19th Century with its corporate towns, child labor, low wages and 60 hour work weeks.

Those were the good old days. We could even tell workers how to vote.

POLITICO.com: Linda McMahon teams up with "Girl's Gone Wild"

By MAGGIE HABERMAN | 10/2/10 10:10 PM EDT

World Wrestling Entertainment, the company that Connecticut Republican Senate hopeful Linda McMahon served as CEO for years, once teamed up with Joe Francis' seedy  ‘Girls Gone Wild’ enterprise for a pay-per-view event. The off-color show featured partly-nude women and some of the WWE’s wrestling personalities.

McMahon has cited her tenure as CEO of the company as one of her qualifiers for elected office, but has spent time answering questions about some of the more lurid aspects of the business she’s downplayed as a soap opera.

WWE spokesman Robert Zimmerman told POLITICO that the event was a one-time occurrence, for mature audiences, and that the firm has since gone from a TV-14 rating to a TV-PG one.

We have an incredible partnership with the WWE,” Joe Francis, who founded the production company behind Girls Gone Wild and who spent time in jail on charges that he and the company didn’t properly document the ages of some of the young girls who exposed themselves in their videos, was quoted saying in the Hollywood Reporter in February 2003. “They own the pay-per-view space, so there's no better people to be in business with.

McMahon's company wanted to reach a younger male audience that was starting to drift.

The WWE had already started to use  some material from the video series. The promos would typically feature young women exposing themselves.

Francis has said he he’d personally played in one of the WWE shows, a character named Raw, with McMahon’s husband, Vince.

It's real girls and there's nothing else like it. I like girls and I really like them naked and I thought other guys would, too,” Francis was quoted telling the Monitor of South Texas.

The shows were set to go to Panama City, FL, and two other locations. But the mayor of Panama City threatened to arrest everyone involved if the pay-per-view extravaganza went on.

Don't you just love this example of Republican Family Values?

HYSTERICAL RAISINS: Did James O’Keefe think he really had a chance with the CNN hottie?

It isn’t entirely clear what James O’Keefe hoped would happen when he invited CNN reporter Abbie  onto his floating “sex den.”

The conservative amoral prankster gained infame through his heavily edited undercover ACORN sting.

O'Keefe has certainly provided plenty of laughs this afternoon based on his proposed props for the stunt: dildos, lube, fuzzy handcuffs, Viagra and a mirrored ceiling.

O'Keefe is currently on probation for trying to break into Rep. Mary Landrau's (D-LA)  office to bug her phone system.

O’Keefe says his plan was to “seduce her (Boudreau) , on camera, to use her for a video,” as payback for “trying to seduce me to use me, in order to spin a lie about me.”

A planning document obtained by CNN  reads, “The joke is that the tables have turned on CNN. Using hot blondes to seduce interviewees to get screwed on television, you are faux seducing her in order to screw her on television.”

If you can follow that logic, congrats . . .

Rightardia really doubts that O'Keefe would have succeeded with his floating den of inequity. Most women don't respond to sexually explicit environments.

Abbie Boudreau is married and considered to be one of the five hottest women in Washington DC. O'Keefe is hardly in the same league. O'Keefe must be a true brainless idiot.

His chances with the award winning  CNN journalist were slim and next to none. Rightardia suspects O'Keeffe will have trouble getting a date with any lady after this stupid stunt.

Newsy.com: Worn-out GOP ideas

September 25, 2010 (2:31)
The GOP is trapped in a well-worn ideological box

In his weekly address, President Obama says the GOP “Pledge to America” is grounded in “worn-out philosophy.”

Rightardia agrees with Obama. The GOP hasn't changed much since the 1800s when conservatives were in the Federalist and Whig Parties or when the GOP was founded in 1854.

The GOP is a big supporter of national defense, likes to start a war or insurgency but is less supportive of veterans after the war ends. Its one trick pony is tax cuts, the bulk of which goes ot the most affluent Americans and that was nearly responsible for half the deficit that Bush left Obama.

Republicans like to talk about fiscal conservatism, but Presidents Carter and Clinton did a better job of balancing the budget than any modern GOP president.

The Republican party is not afraid to spend money on their own priorities such as defense and earmarks. Earmarks are a bogus issue because they account for only about .5 per cent of the federal budget.

The GOP is poorly equipped to handle the current economic crises because most of their solutions will come out of a well worn ideological box.

If the public elects more Republicans in the 20102 midterms, they will get exactly what they deserve: little or nothing.

Chicken Hawk Little: the sky is falling

We have seen this GOP alarmism before, haven't we.

Why is the GOP so alarmist and always think the sky is falling and the world as we know it is about to end?

Is melodrama part of the conservative psyche? Take look at one of the books that NewsMax is hyping if you think Rightardia is exaggerating.

St. Petersburg Times: Huge Republican Party scandal in Florida

By Adam C. Smith, Times Political Editor, Saturday, April 10, 2010

She was a 25-year-old junior staffer when the Florida Republican Party gave her an American Express card. During the next 2½ years, nearly $1.3 million in charges wound up on Melanie Phister's AmEx: $40,000 at a London hotel, and nearly $20,000 in plane tickets for indicted former House Speaker Ray Sansom, and his wife and kids, for starters.

Statements show thousands spent on jewelry, sporting goods and in one case $15,000 for what's listed as a month-long stay at a posh Miami Beach hotel, but which the party says was a forfeited deposit.

The credit card records obtained by the St. Petersburg Times and Miami Herald offer the latest behind-the-scenes look at extravagant spending by a party touting fiscal restraint. Phister's records show Republican leaders have liberally used an underling's card — without her knowledge, she says.

"I did not have the sole discretion to initiate credit card spending," said Phister said in an email.

"Over that period of time, there were multiple instances when the card was used to make purchases that I had no knowledge of, and I did not regularly review the monthly credit card statements which I understand were sent directly to the Party's accounting office."

There has been a series of embarrassing revelations over profligate credit card spending by the likes of Republican U.S. Senate frontrunner Marco Rubio, Sansom and incoming House Speaker Dean Cannon. Pending state and federal investigations of party finances that reveal huge charges on Phister's card had veteran GOP fundraisers apoplectic.

"Oh my God. I can't believe it,'' said Al Hoffman, a top fundraiser from Fort Myers, when told of the $1.258 million on Phister's card. "See, that's it. They have an underling do it all. There's no reason a young assistant should be ringing up charges like that."

Phister served as finance director for state House campaigns for 2½ years starting in mid 2006. She was a Republican Party employee who mainly answered to Sansom, R-Destin, speaker-designate at the time and overseeing House campaign operations.

Her job involved planning fund raising events. She often accompanying Sansom and other legislative leaders on fund raising and other political trips.

Sansom was indicted by a grand jury last year for inserting $6 million into the state budget for an airport building that a friend and GOP contributor, Jay Odom, wanted to use as an airplane hangar. That criminal investigation revealed that Sansom charged more than $170,000 on his party-issued credit card — everything from plane tickets for his family to clothes to electronics.

Her credit card statements include at least four sets of plane tickets for Sansom, his wife and four kids. He also ordered Phister to accompany him on a trade trip to London in the summer of 2008. Phister brought her mother along at Sansom's encouragement, and Phister's GOP AmEx saw plenty of action: nearly $40,000 at a London hotel, and more than $3,600 in sightseeing expenses.

"I can't believe it. Someone should be hanged for that," Mark Guzzetta, a Boca Raton developer who has raised millions of dollars for Republicans, said of the party allowing so much spending on a low-level staffer's card.

Neither Phister nor the party would discuss the credit card statements in detail because of pending state and criminal federal investigations into its financial activities as well as an exhaustive "forensic audit" of party spending about to get under way.

Rightardia editorial: Republicans are wimps

Even during the final Congressional debates on Sunday, GOP politicians wanted to 'start over." Then we heard threats about repealing the bill one amendment at a time. Now righties like Bill McCollum of Florida are crying that taxing people who do not buy health insurance is unconstitutional.

Of course, in Florida, if you don't purchase auto insurance and drive, you will be heavily fined or have your driver's license suspended.

The real issue of opting all Americans into health insurance is that it is cheaper if everyone pays into the health insurance kitty. Right now any American who has health insurance is paying an extra $1000 a year to cover Medicaid for people who go to the emergency room because they do not have medical insurance.

The Republicans have tried to break up Social Security for years by allowing some Americans to opt out which would weaken the overall program. The reality is that Social Security is a great deal for the affluent because of the $108,500 cap. Social Security is one of the worst regressive taxes foisted on the middle class.

Bottom line on health care: Don't look at a gift horse in the mouth. Americans will be better off without preexisting conditions and lifetime insurance caps. Children in school will now have health insurance until they are 26.

Bill Clinton was right that the health care act needed to be passed and the details can be sorted out over time. The bill is not perfect and for that matter few laws are. it is also clear that the bill is more democratic and comprehensive than the failed Hillarycare program that wanted to turn the US medical care system into a giant HMO.

The Republicans were given numerous opportunities to forge a bipartisan bill but preferred to stonewall health care. The Republicans suffered a historic defeat and were the big losers in the health care battle. They only have themselves to blame.

What did you expect form a bunch of childish wimps? The GOP has been hijacked by extremists, nut jobs and the under educated that are represented by politicians like Sarah Palin.

Why do 'dumb Republicans' want to be president?

Rightardia comment: We had eight years of President Forest Gump and then the GOP tried to  push another dummy on us, Senator John McCain, who finished in the bottom one per cent of his class at Annapolis.

McCain's Vice Presidential candidate, Sarah Palin, attended five colleges in six years working on a BA degree. She has proved to be quarrelsome, unstable and a quitter.

Now the dumbest of the dumb, Rick Santoroum, Republican Boy Scout wants to be presidnet.Check out some of his more famous quotes:

"As the hobbits are going up Mount Doom, the Eye of Mordor is being drawn somewhere else.... It's being drawn to Iraq and it's not being drawn to the U.S. You know what? I want to keep it on Iraq. I don't want the Eye to come back here to the United States." --Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA), comparing the Iraq war to the Lord of the Rings

"We have brave men and women who are willing to step forward because they know what's at stake. They're willing to sacrifice their lives for this great country. What I'm asking all of you tonight is not to put on a uniform. Put on a bumper sticker. Is it that much to ask? Is it that much to ask to step up and serve your country?" --Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA), urging supporters to put a Rick Santorum bumper sticker on their cars

"Congressman Hoekstra and I are here today to say that we have found weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, chemical weapons.” –Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA)

This is what a Santorum first family would look like.

Rick Santorum, the former Republican senator who infamously likened homosexuality to bestiality, is heading to Iowa this fall, signaling an interest in a 2012 presidential bid, Politico reports.

Santorum said that the series of speaking engagements will help him make his voice be heard on "the state of affairs in this country and how Republicans are
dealing with [issues]."

Santorum—whose last name is used by some as extremely vulgar slang [gay sex act]—will be following in the footsteps of numerous other potential presidential hopefuls in the GOP who have traveled to the campaign staging ground.

Politico reports that "Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, House Minority Conference Chair Mike Pence (R-Ind.), former New York Gov. George Pataki and, before admitting his adulterous affair, Nevada Sen. John Ensign," have all visited Iowa. Ready for another campaignepic?
