Hacker goes after Rightardia

We noticed something unusual in one of our blog logs. Apparently, the security software we use defeated the attacks, but didn't log the incidents.

We discovered that someone tired to install a fake user account named Victor. Apparently the hacker believed the attack was successful because he or she tried to remote into the blog 11 times before giving up.

This is what we saw in our log:

file:///C:/Users/Victor/Desktop/AAA%20DISABILITY/R%20i%20g%20h%20t%20a%20r%20d%20i%20a%20%20The%20Veterans%20Affairs%20C&P%20Exam%20II.htm

Wirehead also discovered the IP address of the hacker: 72.130.114.10 which a Road Runner account in Huntington Beach, CA.

If a hacker could create a fake administrator user account on your PC, he or she could install a Trojan or other malware to steal passwords, bank account information or files.

We know of at least two web sites of progressive posters that have been hit by hackers. In one case, numerous files were permanently deleted.

We recommend our readers check their Windows user accounts that are usually at C:\users to see if  any accounts exist that the reader did not create.

Delete the phantom user accounts immediately and upgrade or update you anti-virus and malware software.

Also, make sure you PC has an operational software firewall: see http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-firewall.htm

Most anti-virus programs include such a firewall that is superior to the firewall that Microsoft provides with it operating system.

Update: We got a quick response form Road Runner which indicated it has difffrent email addresses for complaints:

If you sent your message to an address other than abuse/security/fraud@rr.com or
childporncomplaints@rr.com, please be aware that your message was automatically forwarded to our centralized location at the address abuse@rr.com. You may wish to use abuse@rr.com, security@rr.com, fraud@rr.com or childporncomplaints@rr.com for all future issues.

LtSaloon.org gets hacked

We noticed this post on LtSaloon.org. Rightrardia uses a lot of the cartoons that RS Jaynes creates. He has an excellent web site.
We are sorry to inform you that on Monday, May 2, 2011, LTSaloon.org with cease publication on the net. The reasons are varied, including disagreements about the very nature of the site you have come to know.
Specifics are mostly unimportant and personal. But the major reason is last week the site was hacked by someone with a very specific agenda.
They not only jacked up part of the host’s settings on the site so within a day or two there was a $200 bill, but they made it very clear who this attack was aimed at: the editor who pays the bills here and then asks the other two to chip in. apssphrase
They changed that editor’s password and altered some of his postings: including erasing the private, copyrighted, work of several posters on various editions of the Literary Magazine.
They also erased at least one whole month and posted something else there. This hacker most likely had, or was given, a password to do this amount of damage.
It was a childish and petty act, possibly done out of revenge or not willing to put up with disagreement.
Rigtrtardia had one of it email accounts hacked and also had some Usenet email headers forged. Our blog and Usenet posts have been under attack for more than a year by forgers and spammers named Patriot Games and Buster Norris.
Apparently, some ultra right wing Republicans are trying to suppress free speech on the Internet and Usenet. We suspect due to the right wing volume of spam we see in alt. politics and other Usenet conferences that a ring is involved.
Recently the Digg's Patrots ring was closed down in which several hundred wingnuts were giving progressive articles low ratings to try to suppress the posts.
Why would people do this? America is changing demographically and the GOP is fading into a minority regional party. The right wing is using desperate measures to try to hold onto political power.
For example the Florida  legislature is passing an act to suppress voting because they know the US will no longer be a "white Christian nation" in the next 5 to 10 years. This is also what the immigration fights in the southeast are about.
This is also why you should vote using an absentee ballot in the next Florida election. This is how you can avoid getting your vote thrown out or caged.
If you are a Democrat, liberal pr progressive voice, don't let the right wing suppress your message. Make sure you use a web server that is secure and use a long password or pass phrase that is not easily hacked. Change your password every month or two.
Don't let these bastards get you down.

Who is the real Julian Assange?

The conservative view of Julian Assange

Rachel Maddow said the following about Julain Assange when she interviewed Michael Moor.

The timing could not be more suspicious. The man accused says he’s being pursued for political reasons. But even if you’re suspicious about the timing, there are two women who went to the police with what are essentially date-rape charges against this guy.
This doesn’t fit on a bumper sticker.
Can your suspicion about the forces arrayed against Julian Assange and Wikileaks — your suspicion about the timing and pursuit of these charges — coexist with respect for the women making these accusations against him and with a commitment to take rape allegations seriously, even when the person accused is someone that for other reasons you like?
Moore retorted:
Every woman who claims to have been sexually assaulted or raped has to be, must be, taken seriously. Those charges have to be investigated to the fullest extent possible.
For too long, and too many women have been abused in our society, because they were not listened to, and they just got shoved aside. . . .So I think these two alleged victims have to be treated seriously and Mr. Assange has to answer the questions.

Rigtardia agrees. We have read accounts of the alleged Assange assaults and they are credible. We have also heard stories that Assange has bullied his Wikileaks associates and  tried to pick a fight with a journalist when he hustled the journalist's girl friend.

We were surprised the UK did not extradite Assange to Sweden.

Assange is doing important work, but anyone can be replaced.

RT: Julian Assange gets e-tag, curfew and $379,000 bail bond

From: RussiaToday | December 14, 2010
The WikiLeaks founder has been granted bail by a British court - but with strict conditions.

Assange will stay in jail until another hearing in the next two days, as Swedish prosecutors are appealing the bail decision.

Stockholm want to extradite Assange to answer questions over rape allegations, which he denies.

Sweden's chief prosecutor cancelled a previous arrest warrant saying there was no reason to suspect that he committed an assault.

The WikiLeaks site is still operating and continues to publish confidential American diplomatic cables.

Julian Assange granted bail

Michael Moore helped Julian Assange with the UK bail bond.  Julinn Assange said:

My convictions are unfaltering. I remain true to the ideals I have expressed. This circumstance shall not shake them. If anything this process has increased my determination that they are true and correct.

Wow! Perhaps Michael Moore will make a documentary about Wiki-leaks.

Rightardia Netcraft ratings improve by nearly 2900

 Patriot Games the forger

Rightardia didn't get any Netcraft ratings last week so we watched our Alexa ratings  improve by 500 per cent in the past month. We finally got our Netcraft ratings and our ratings improved by nearly 2900 from 14896 to 11952.

This is the biggest improvement in ratings we have ever experienced.

We attribute the increase of the efforts of a right wing forger and hacker to disrupt Rightaridia's posts on Usenet. Rightardia was attacked continuously for the last month and we reported the hacker and forger to three Usenet service providers, two ISPs, an email portal and even some government organizations.

We eventually tracked the hacker to  THEPLANET.COM INTERNET SERVICES in Houston, TX and reported him again. The hacker also tried to impersonate Rightardia with a Yahoo email address. We also reported him to Yahoo.com. Eventually, the hacker stopped his attacks.

During the mellee, we found numerous forged Usenet emails that were designed to defame Rightardia. The headers had been forged to obscure the originator of the hacked message. Then the hacker tried to direct email to Rightardia from some unseemly organizations. Fortunately, one of theses organizations logged the hacker's IP address.

Oops.

The hacker ordeal is now over.Perhaps the improved ratings were worth it.
Our IT guy, Wirehead, had been shadowing the hacker for weeks. We were happy when he busted him.

Why are conservatives afraid of Rightardia?

Rightardia believes the right wing is afraid of Rightardia because we tell the truth and use a take no prisoners approach when we publish.

We call a spade a spade: the right wing has moved to the far right since the 2008 elections they are all crowded along the right field foul line.

The Ditto heads, Tea Baggers, militia members, racists, white supremacists and neo-Nazis that make up the file of the GOP are clearly fascist. So are their corporatist masters.

Since we started to point out that Repbublicans are fascists, right wing hackers have forged and hacked Rightardia Usenet posts.

Right wing hackers have also created a bogus email address: rightardia@yahoo.com and are impersonating us to direct unsolicited email from unseemly organizations to Rightrdia. Unfortunatley for the Rightrdia impersonator, one of the organizations logged the impersonators IP address:

67.15.76.110 - Geo Information
IP Address      67.15.76.110
Host    67.15.76.110.76.15.67.in-addr.
arpa
Location        US US, United States
City    Houston, TX 77002
Organization    THEPLANET.COM INTERNET SERVICES

These forgers and hackers  also publish forged email to suggest that Rightardia is associated with NAMBLA (the National Man Boy Love Association), which advocates pedophilia. These wingnuts have also tried to sign up Rightardia with socialist organizations.

Why are right wingers doing this? They are scared to death of Rightardia because we aren't afrid to use the F-Word: fascist.

We have also actively refuted GOP arguments against reforming health care and privatizing Social Security. We also have no use for tax scofflaws who stole millions form the government using UBS tax evasion schemes.

We are also crticial of the red state fisherman in the gulf who do not pay Income Tax or the FICA payroll tax. The Blue States will be paying for the welfare of these fisherman when they are no longer able to work.

We also admire outspoken Democrats like Rep. Anthony Wiener and Rep. Alan Grayson. This must really gaul these right wingers.

You want to fight, righty? Bring it on! Rightardia has big cojones. We will never back down. We will never cut and run!

You'll have to pry my Social Security check from my cold, dead fingers.

Is the Taliban training monkeys to attack US soldiers in Afghanistan?

That is no exaggeration.

US trying to extradite UK hacker with Asperger's

Asperger's is a form of autism. Apparently the young man was looking for information on UFOs, but claims he did no malicious 'cracking.'

Gary McKinnon lost his appeal to the European Court of Human Rights on Thursday, and is expected to be on a plane to Virginia within three weeks. But — surprise! — he’s now been diagnosed at 42 with Asperger’s syndrome, and his lawyers are asking Home Secretary Jacqui Smith to keep him in London for medical reasons.

The US claims that he breached more than 90 unclassified Pentagon and NASA systems in 2001 and 2002, and crashed some of them, causing $900,000 in damage.

Houston Computer Administrator Sentenced to Two Years in Prison for Hacking Former Employer’s Computer Network

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CRM
(202) 514-2007
TDD (202) 514-1888
Wednesday, July 15, 2009
WWW.USDOJ.GOV
The former director of information technology for a non-profit organ and tissue donation center was sentenced today to two years in prison for hacking into her former employer’s computer network.

Danielle Duann, 51, of Houston, pleaded guilty on April 30, 2009, to a one-count criminal indictment charging her with unauthorized computer access. Duann was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge David Hittner in the Southern District of Texas. In addition to the two-year prison term,

Judge Hittner sentenced Duann to a three-year period of supervised release following completion of her prison sentence, and ordered her to pay $94,222 in restitution to compensate her former employer for the damage that resulted from her actions.

In pleading guilty, Duann admitted to illegally accessing the computer network of LifeGift Organ Donation Center and then intentionally deleting organ donation database records, accounting invoice files, database and accounting software applications and various backup files, without authorization. LifeGift is the sole provider of organ procurement services for more than 200 hospitals throughout 109 counties in North, Southeast and West Texas.

According to court documents, LifeGift terminated Duann from her position as their director of information technology on Nov. 7, 2005, and revoked all of her previous administrative rights and access to the LifeGift computer network.

In pleading guilty, Duann admitted that beginning on the evening of Nov. 7, 2005, and continuing until Nov. 8, 2005, she repeatedly gained unauthorized access to the LifeGift computer network via a remote connection from her home and intentionally caused damage by deleting numerous database files and software applications, as well as their backups, related to LifeGift’s organ and tissue recovery operations.

Duann further admitted that in an attempt to conceal her activities, she disabled the computer logging functions on several LifeGift computer servers and erased the computer logs that recorded her remote access to the LifeGift network.

This case was investigated by the FBI and is being jointly prosecuted by Trial Attorney Thomas Dukes of the Criminal Division’s Computer Crime and Intellectual Property Section and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Bret W. Davis of the U.S.

Chinese government websites coming under constant attack

www.chinaview.cn 2009-06-17 09:28:18
BEIJING, June 17 -- A green diagram
moves across the computer screen until a short message pops up in redlike an alarm.

"The scan shows some websitesare being hacked at this very moment," said Professor Fang
Binxing, a cyber security scientist, as he punched the URL of a government-run Web domain into his Internet browser.

The hacked website that appeared onscreen is the State-owned asset administration of Shenyang, capitalof Liaoning province. Hackers have planted a black-colored page abovethe official
website and left a set of randomly selected Englishcapitalized letters as their only trace.

"Hacks like this on government websites just aim to find the loopholes in sensitive websites in China," said Fang, whose online scan, which he designed while serving as director of the national computer network emergency response team between 2002 and 2006, trawls the websites of
government at all levels in China.

He said it detects from dozens to hundreds of attacks each day.

As many as 60,000 hacks targeting the government are attempted each year, he said, while that are millions more on commercial and individual targets that cost owners billions.

"China has benefited greatly from the world's biggest Web community, but its imbalance in Internet development makes its vulnerable to defend against countless cyber breaches," said Professor Yu Xiaofeng, of Zhejiang University in
Hangzhou.

Fang Xingdong, an Internet technology expert, also warned the situation in China makes life easy even for the least-skilled hackers. He said: "It takes little for a hacker to launch an attack, but their assaults cost victims dearly, commercially and legally."

Without a strong cyber defense for government and military institutions, experts say the nation will remain vulnerable for years to come.

In one security breach, four hackers allegedly tried to sabotage rivals' servers, which offered access to illegal online gaming sites, on May 19. But they consequently disconnected Web users in more than 20 provinces for several hours.

It was the worst Internet incident in China after the service interruption caused by damaged undersea cables in the earthquake near Taiwan in 2006. The suspects were detained shortly after the breakdown.

According to an Internet security report on April 15 by Symantec, the California-based anti-virus software maker, of the computers hacked in the Asia-Pacific region during 2008, about 71 percent were in China.

As a result of the sharp rise in hacks in China, its gaps in security have attracted international hackers who buy or rent hacked machines to use in other illegal projects, causing a multi-billion yuan black market to spring up.

A Shenzhen-based hacker, who declined to be named, said hacked computers costing as much as hundreds of yuan are so popular they are often sold or rented in groups.

"Even so, the prices in China are still seven to eight times lower than in the United States,"
said the hacker, who also added the practice is widely known throughout the information technology industry, with licensed companies also taking a piece from the pie.

The National People's Congress, China's top legislative body, listed hacking as a crime for the first time in February. But experts say more detailed measures and a long-term
strategy for cyber security must be implemented.
