Does the GOP engage in class warfare?

The GOP engages in class warfare. misogyny and racism.

Both the tax plans of Jeb Bush and Donald Trump make this clear. Both tax plans give huge tax breaks to the affluent by cutting the income tax rates for top earning Americans to below 30 per cent. Trump's tax rate is 15 per cent, but he says he will eliminate all deductions. Trump goes further by eliminating the estate tax which only effects the top 0.1 per cent of Americans.

Republicans like to call the estate tax the death tax and suggest it is double taxation. A progressive estate tax was instituted by Theodore Roosevelt to level the playing field. Unfortunately, the estate tax today is barely functional. The US now has a stratified social system. There is very little social mobility between classes. If you are born working class, you will likely die working class.

Trump suggests families making $50k or less pay no income tax while Bush suggests $40k or less. In both cases, more than half of the taxpayers in the US would be exempt from federal income tax. This proposal would greatly favor the Red states which have lower median incomes than the Blue.

When the dust clears from either of these plans a greater tax burden would end up on the backs of the middle class. Working class Americans would pay little or no tax and the top earning Americans would get huge tax cuts.

Both Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush tried similar supply side tax plans and both presidents greatly increased the annual deficits which added trillions to the national debt. Not only did the Republicans lower taxes irresponsibly, they also overspent on the armed services. Bush never vetoed a single bill while in office his first term and increased defense spending by 47 per cent.

The tax cuts plus the runaway spending had bad outcomes. The Bush “ownership society” was predicated on deregulation. This led to a worldwide economic meltdown.

Many observers have suggested the GOP favors defense spending over infrastructure because most defense facilities are in the Red states while the US infrastructure is in the Blue

President Obama was elected overwhelmingly by women voters, black Americans, and Hispanic Americans. It is not a coincidence that all three have attacked by Republicans ever since the elections.

In the case of women, an important institution, Planned Parenthood is being attacked. Certainly Republicans are “Pro-Life,” but it goes far beyond that. Republicans are trying to deny birth control pills and other forms of contraception to women. The real GOP goal appears to be to stop women from having “sex for mere pleasure. “

The attacks on gay or LGBT people is similar but also has an Old testament religious basis. Many evangelical and fundamentalist churches subscribe to the belief the Christian religion is underpinned by repressing gays. Many have predicted Christianity will collapse now that gay marriage is legal.

Much of the GOP racism was stimulated by the election of Barack Obama. America's first black president. Republicans were even more agitated when record number of blacks showed up at the polls and 95 per cent voted for the president. Since the election , many other Red states have instituted laws to “reduce voter fraud”vby requiring multiple forms of identification to vote. Many older and poorer people don't have birth certificates, so they will be unable to vote.

The worst example is in Alabama in which voters must register to vote at the Division of Motor Vehicle (DMV) offices. The state then closed all but 5 DMV offices and the open ones mainly service white drivers and voters.

Lat but not least, is the GOP attack on Latino/Hispanic immigrants. The GOP did poorly in the 2012 election with Romney picking up only 27 per cent of the Hispanic and Latino vote. Marco Rubio thinks the GOP candidate must pick up at lease 40 per cent of this vote to win. Another pollster indicated 42-47 per cent is needed.

Because Obama took 71 per cent of the Latino and Hispanic vote in 2012, Republicans have become anti-immigrant. The GOP will say that immigrants take jobs but most compete for jobs with high school dropouts. They take jobs in construction such as roofing, food service, agriculture, lawn service and gardening. Posit the real GOP concern is that immigrants from south of the border overwhelmingly vote Democratic.

The GOP prefers the Hi-B program that lets in educated workers such as information technology (IT ) people. Recently Walt Disney World told 250 workers, most of which were technical, that they were being laid off and replaced by foreign workers from India. The US workers even had to train their replacements.

Fortunately, Disney got plenty of bad press and dropped plans to replace the workers.

The GOP engages in class warfare in many ways. It uses tax policy to play the middle calls against the affluent and the working class. Its tax policy and appropriations also favors the Red states over the Blue.

The GOP attacks women, black, Latinos/Hispanics and other minorities based on voting patterns. If any group votes for Democrats, the GOP then tries to marginalize that group in the US congress and in statehouses controlled by he GOP.

Thee is one exception, veterans. Although veterans overwhelmingly vote Republican, Republicans the US House and senate have voted down several vet bills since 2008. Apparently the GOP thinks it can take vets for granted.

Barbara's Doodle Blog: The Least Reverend Charles Worley

Pastor Charles Worley's comments on May 13:

Build a great big large fence 50 or 100 miles long. Put all the lesbians in there. Fly over and drop some food. Do the same thing with the queers and the homosexuals. Have that fence electrified so they can't get out. You know what, in a few years, they'll die out.
Of interest, the famous pink triangle was worn by gay men in the Nazi concentration camps.

In contrast lesbian women wore a black triangle. This was a badge used in Nazi concentration camps to mark prisoners as "asocial" or "arbeitsscheu" (work-shy).

Did Mitt Romney abuse Seamus because his dog was gay?

Seamus is a male name, but this picture suggests Seamus had maternal instincts, too. The dog was probably gay.

Did Mittens put Seamus in a carrier on the top of his car to punish the dog for being gay?

Only Mittens knows the answer to that question.

NMA: Satan targets America while Obama wages 'spiritual war'

The former Pennsylvania senator and current GOP presidential candidate spoke his mind about what he thinks is ailing the country.

Satan, whom Santorum repeatedly referred to as "Father of Lies," is actively plotting against the United States of America, using such vices as "pride, vanity and sensuality" to topple the nation's institutions.

The dark prince first attacked academia, then moved onto destroy Protestantism, which Santorum, a Catholic, claimed is "in shambles" and "gone from the world of Christianity." Last to fall was culture, and politics and government.

Speaking just weeks before the 2008 presidential election, Santorum claimed the battle between then-Republican nominee John McCain and Barack Obama was neither a political nor cultural war, but a spiritual war.

In order to understand their full magnitude, we have animated Santorum's rational, measured warnings.

Sex news: A historic kiss

Petty Officer 2nd Class Marissa Gaeta, 23 won a raffle prize to be one of the first sailors to greet her loved one, 22-year-old Petty Officer 3rd Class Citlalic Snell. She disembarked the ship after at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story in Virginia.

Under the old Don't ask, don't tell (DADT) policy in the armed services, the two women would have been discharged from the Navy for a simple kiss like this.

One of our readers wrote about a recent book by the scientist, Simon LeVay. It's title is "Gay, Straight, and the Reason Why: The Science of Sexual Orientation." It addresses the "chosen lifestyle" theory of homosexuality which has done harm to the LGBT community. Amazon rates the book with three stars.

In a related matter, A rugby player had a stroke and woke up gay. Rightardia heard about the story on Dr. Oz.

Dr. Oz indicted that the Amygdala and its wiring with other parts of the brain appears to drive sexuality. Straight women and gay men have similar brain profiles of the Amygdala and congruent brain areas..

The Amygdala has a primary role in the processing and memory of emotional reactions. The amygdalae are considered part of the limbic system.Of interest, conservatives have larger amygdalas than liberals.

Janeane Garofalo has been taliking about conservative limbic systems for a long time.  Garofalo said this recently to a wing nut:

It’s not your fault, really. It’s your limbic brain. Pressing up against the brain pan. Causes your synapses to misfire. And all that pressure and misfiring acts on the ‘accepts a Black Man as President’ part of the frontal lobe, turning you into a conservative or a redneck or a white supremacist with no real knowledge of history.

This may suggest conservatives are more susceptible to emotional political arguments than liberals that would explain the success of men like Rush Limbaugh.

Limbugh does not bury his listeners with facts. Most of arguments are rants that center around a simple thesis that he never attempts to prove.

Why the GOP makes a big deal about gays and lesbians in the Armed Services.

First of all, gays and lesbians have been in the Armed Services for a long time. Our editor, The Major,  was aware of many gay people when he served. A lot of people in uniform knew who was straight and who wasn't, but really didn't care.

The problem was that some evangelical and fundamentalists did care and a complaint to the Office of Special Investigation (OSI) could end a promising career.

The Armed Services attract conservatives. Most of the soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen are from the South and Midwest. The navy is an exception. Many sailors  are from the east coast and left coast  probably because they young men and women live near the Atlantic and the Pacific.

However, gays and lesbians often hold more liberal views than their peers in the Armed Services. Perhaps the Republicans worry that the Armed Services will become more liberal and Democratic if gays serve freely.

Besides religious prejudices toward homosexuality, that's the best Rigthtardia can come up for the homophobia on the part of the GOP. The three candidates that are making the most noise about gays and lesbians are Rick Perry, Rick Santorum and Michele Bachmann,

All three GOP candidates who are evangelical and all three have made some peculiar statements about gays and lesbians.

Funny or Die, Betty Bowers and the National Lampoon all parodied the Strong commercial of Rick Perry.

Michelle Bachmann advocates "lavender marriages" for gays and lesbians. In Hollywood, a gay and a lesbian would sometimes marry to hide their true sexuality from the public.

These sham marriages were called lavender marriages. Michelle said is was OK for gays and lesbians to get married as long as they married the opposite sex.

Rick Santorum somehow relates strengthening the family with economic recovery. He thinks prohibiting same sex marriage will somehow help the economy. Santorum said:

The family is the bedrock of our society. Unless we protect it with the institution of marriage, our country will fall.

Huh?

Rep. Louie Gohmert: Don't Ask, Don't Tell Repeal Threatens America's 'Existence'

The Huffington Post | Nick Wing Posted: 12-16-10 09:32 AM

In the heat of the debate over the "don't ask, don't tell" repeal bill, which was eventually passed by the House Wednesday by a 250 to 175 margin, Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) delivered a floor speech railing against overturning the DADT protocol of the Armed Services.  Gohlmert stated that allowing gay servicemembers to serve openly would be a threat to America's "existence."

Here are his comments, via ThinkProgress:

GOHMERT: To my friend who said that history would judge us poorly, I would submit if you would look thoroughly at history -- and I'm not saying it's cause and effect -- but when militaries throughout history of the greatest nations in the world have adopted the policy that "fine for homosexuality to be overt" -- you can keep it private and control your hormones fine, if you can't, that's fine too -- they're toward the end of their existence as a great nation.

See the video that follows of Gohmert's remarks:

Gohmert's speech would have been more effective if he could have provided concrete examples of gays and lesbians undermining a nation.

The historical examples of Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar and the Spartans suggest Gohmert is an ignorant homophobe.

Republicans say it's OK to be gay

Amanda Terkel aterkel@huffingtonpost.com | HuffPost Reporting
First Posted: 08-25-10 10:42 PM | Updated: 08-25-10 11:11 PM

In an interview with the Huffington Post on Wednesday night, former Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman -- who announced earlier Wednesday that he is gay and intends to join the fight for marriage equality in California -- said he wishes he had come out while he was the face of a historically anti-gay Republican Party platform.

Mehlman acknowledged regret that he remained closeted when he led the RNC between 2005 and 2007. This was a time when, as The Atlantic's Marc Ambinder noted, it was "stepping up its anti-gay activities."

"The reason I wish that I had been in a different place then, as I am now, is I know the personal benefit of being comfortable with, and at peace with, an important part of your life," Mehlman said.

Until you get there, it's much harder. I'm very glad to be there.

The former chairman argued that he tried hard to "expand the party and build the party," but said he wished he had done more for gay rights. Still, he said:

[You] can't look back, you've got to look forward.
The GOP movement away form Opposing gay marriage started when right wing attorney Ted Olson opposed California's Proposition 8. Dick Cheney, who has a lesbian daughter,  and Ann Coulter also jumped on the 'it's OK to be Gay' band wagon. Now a former RNC chairman comes out.

We suspect the evangelicals aren't happy about this policy cahnge. It will ruin the evangelical gay conversion therapy business.

Conservative Scott Lively: Open gays exceptionally brutal and savage

The Daily Show With Jon StewartMon - Thurs 11p / 10c
Gay Reichs
www.thedailyshow.com
Daily Show Full EpisodesPolitical HumorTea Party

Jason Jones sat down with Defend the Family President Scott Lively to talk about the much-debated topic. In his biography Lively describes himself as "one of the most knowledgeable and articulate opponents of the homosexual agenda in America".

While many oppose gays in the military because of a moral stance, Lively's reason for restricting gays is that the Nazis, including Hitler, were gay themselves, and used gay men in their armies because "open homosexuals are distinct from everyone else, men and women, in being exceptionally brutal and savage."

Jones found this unbelievable, but Lively continued to support his claims with "evidence" that not only was Adolf Hitler a homosexual, but that the Nazis used to have meetings in gay bars.

Jones had to know - what is it about being gay that makes people as "vicious" as this man was baselessly claiming?

After checking with historian Prof. Dagmar Herzog, who pointed out that the Nazis specifically persecuted homosexuals, Jones confronted Lively with the facts.

When Lively simply argued that Nazis persecuted homosexuals to "distract public attention away from their homosexuality," Jones had the perfect opportunity to point out the holes in Lively's theory:

"So, that which you hate the most, you secretly are?" To which Lively responded: "I'm not gay."

Wikipedia indicates gay men suffered unusually cruel treatment in the concentration camps. They faced persecution not only from German soldiers but also from other prisoners, and many gay men were beaten to death.

Additionally, gay men in forced labor camps routinely received more grueling and dangerous work assignments than other non-Jewish inmates, under the policy of "Extermination Through Work".

SS soldiers also were known to use gay men for target practice, aiming their weapons at the pink triangles their human targets were forced to wear.

Lesbians were classified differently as 'anti-socials' and are believed to have worn black triangles in the jails and concentration camps.

Conservative Gays protest Disney's Toy Story 3

A spokesman for the Log Cabin Republicans, Slap Kretchner, complained to Walt Disney studios that the a character in Toy Story 3 wasn't gay. Kretchner stated:

For years Americans have known that Ken of Ken and Barby was gay. That is why they never married.

The character in Toy Story 3 is clearly a straight doll. This is an insult to the conservative Gay and Lesbian community. Kretchner accused Disney of homophobia and historical revisionism.

That's Ken as in Barbie's long-suffering boy friend. Thanks in large part to Micheal Keaton's vocal prowess and more wardrobe changes than a Lady Gaga concert, the dandified twit parlays his status as a D-list doll into an A-rated breakout performance in Toy Story 3.

When Keaton got the job offer, "the phone literally fell out of my hands and I almost fell to my knees laughing. I don't know why exactly, frankly. It just started to make me laugh, and I haven't quite stopped since."

On Feb. 12, 2004 Mattel (MAT) announced that Barbie and Ken, her companion of 43 years, were splitting up.

Many euphemisms were used: "They had grown apart." "Needed some time alone." "Were going their separate ways." "They would remain friends." "Ken needs some space."

The announcement was made just 48 hours before Valentine's Day. Immediately, the rumors started, and they were tantalizing: That a single Barbie, soon to be unleashed in her latest incarnation, Tatoo Barbie, would go over better.

That Barbie had really left Ken for Blaine -- a boogie-board, boy-toy Ozzie -- that Ken, at long last, was coming out of Barbie's closet.

"Ken has been a Gay conservative icon for years," stammered Slap, and this movie is an attack upon the conservative Gay and Lesbian community.

Alexander Hamiliton: Gay Conservative Founding Father

During the Revolutionary war Alexander Hamilton, the American conservative Founder,  became close friends with several fellow officers.

His letters to the Marquis de Lafayette and to John Laurens, employing the sentimental literary conventions of the late eighteenth century and alluding to Greek history and mythology, have also been read as revealing a homosocial or perhaps homosexual relationship. In many ancient Greek societies there was little stigma about homosexual relations.

Now and then, Hamilton apparently felt the tug of attraction to other men besides Laurens. For instance, in 1780, he went heartsick over British spy John André, who was captured during the Benedict Arnold treason episode. André was gay, as most historians admit.

He was also so handsome and charming that even Washington heaved a sigh of regret as he ordered that André be hanged. During the death watch, Hamilton visited André in his cell. When the execution took place, Washington and his aides couldn't bear to watch, so they went in their headquarters and closed the shutters.

But John Laurens was clearly the sunlight in Hamilton's day. When Laurens went home to South Carolina to fight, Hamilton got himself detached from Washington's staff so he and Laurens could serve together in cavalry combat.

Through it all, Hamilton wrote his buddy some fervid letters that survive today. In one of them, he confessed, "I wish, my dear Laurens ... it might be in my power, by action rather than words, to convince you that I love you." Lauren's own letters to Hamilton were warm, but a shade less frank.

Hamilton  also had a lavender marraige to  Elizabeth Schuyler, daughter of General Philip Schuyler, and thus joined one of the richest military and most political families in the state of New York. The marriage took place at Schuyler Mansion in Albany, New York.

Today, LGBT women and men in uniform have reclaimed the "Little Lion" who fought for freedom.

Gay war veteran Paul Hardman, who wrote feelingly about Hamilton in his history title Homoeffectionalism, was instrumental in founding the Alexander Hamilton Post 448 in San Francisco, and became its first commander.

Despite protests from the Legion's more conservative members, the American Legion granted a charter to Post 448 in 1985. Today Post 448 lives and thrives, as its members -- and all the rest of us -- fight in another, newer revolution.

Defense of Marriage Act declared unconstitutional

Judge Stephen Reinhardt of the Ninth Circuit in an order Wednesday seems to have declared the half of DOMA that declares that a same-sex marriage cannot be a marriage under federal law or for purposes of granting federal benefits unconstitutional, a violation of the equal protection component of the due process guarantee of the Fifth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

In sum, to the extent that the application of DOMA serves to preclude the provision of health insurance coverage to a same-sex spouse of a legally married federal employee because of the employee's and his or her spouse's sex or sexual orientation, DOMA, as applied, contravenes the Fifth Amendment to the United States Constitution and is therefore unconstitutional.

That's about as flat a declaration of the unconstitutionality of that part of DOMA as one can expect to see come from a court. (Note that it places no reliance on the fact that the employee in question was an employee of a federal court, as opposed to of the federal government in general.

Rightardia is suprised that Ninth Amendment issues were not addressed in the ruling. The federal government has no constitutional basis for regulating marraige. We laugh when conservatives say they are strict constructionist and pass such a stupid law that has no chance of passing constitutional muster.

When will Rush come clean with America?

It is ironic that the extreme right wingers with its 'family values' agenda, which is anti-gay and lesbian, has as its spokesperson, Rush Limbaugh.

An old college boyfriend, Elliot Sanders, has said that it is unlikely that Rush Limbaugh was able to consummate any of his three marriages. Saunders claims to have had an affair with Limbaugh in 1971.

New DOD Policy on Gays and lesbians: Don't Tell, Let Me Guess?

Editor's Note: Having serving in the Air Force for many years, I became aware that gay people were not uncommon in uniform.

There was also a glass ceiling in the Air Force for unmarried people, straight or gay. If you wanted to get into the colonel or general officer ranks, you had to be married.

The commander-in-chief of a command in the mid-West told a colonel in intelligence he would have to marry to put on his first star. He married for the first time a couple of months later. The colonel was promoted to brigadier general.

40th anniversary of the Stonewall riots

This week marks the 40th anniversary of the Stonewall riots - which occurred in reaction to anti-gay raids by NY police in 1969 and are considered by many to be the beginning of the modern gay rights movement in America.

My parents, compassionate people, taught me that it's not enough to be tolerant of people different than ourselves:  We must go beyond tolerance, and accept others as equals.

In my lifetime, the struggle for equal rights has made significant progress.  Yet today, even with an African American president...  even as we continue to break gender barriers and reverse the effects of centuries-long discrimination against African Americans, Native Americans, religious minorities, the disabled community, and others....  our laws actively discriminate against men and women who are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgendered.

Throughout the country, this discrimination manifests in different ways.

In my own state of Florida, gays and lesbians are not allowed to adopt children, even as thousands of kids languish under state guardianship and in group homes.  In Florida and most other states, no provision exists that grants legal recognition of civil unions - leaving many without benefits or visitation rights when their partner becomes ill or passes away.

This national lack of compassion and concern for our fellow Americans is immoral.

In Iraq and Afghanistan, honored combat veterans, desperately needed in the field, have been discharged from duty because it was disclosed they were gay.

Across America, couples who have lived together for decades in stable, committed relationships are denied health care benefits - because they are gay.

No one should have to uproot their family and move to a different state to gain these simple legal rights.   It is fundamentally a denial of justice.

Like with so many issues we've discussed, we risk being defined by our inaction.  Make no mistake -- there will be a time when the children of this country ask their parents why we allowed things to be this way - why we allowed decisions such as to who one chooses to love to be used as cause for denying a job, right of survivorship, or access to an ill companion.

On this issue, I have felt a moral obligation to stand on the side of compassion and justice.  Long after my career ends, I hope to be proud of where I stood and of the support I gave for those who have made achieving equal rights their life's work.

I hope you see it as I do, and continue to push for equality for every American, including for our LGBT brothers and sisters.

With respect,

Congressman Robert Wexler
