TPM: Party Identiication

This graphic has a slider so you can see the per cent of Democrats, Republicans and independents at a given point in time.

It is clear form the graph that people who were Republicans are exiting the party and probably becoming independent

Notice around the 4th quarter of 2011 where the read and yellow lines cross. The number of independents that increase reflect a parallel decrease in Republicans.

TPM sugests the rightward shit o the GOP has caused the drop in Republicans. This will have an impact on the 2012 elections.

-Tampa Bay Times editorial : An independent court is at stake in Florida

By Martin Dyckman, special to the Times

"Alexander Hamilton made that point in one of the Federalist essays he wrote to persuade the people of New York to ratify the Constitution, which had been submitted to them 225 years ago this month.

The complete independence of the courts of justice is peculiarly essential in a limited Constitution. Without this, all the reservations of particular rights or privileges would amount to nothing.

Pesky historical facts that contradict the conservative alternative reality

"In 1798, as president of the United States, original Founding Father John Adams signed America's first act of Socialized Medicine and Mandated Health Insurance.".....

Another timely masterpiece of "Truth through Art" by Tracy Knauss and with Carlton Cadillac Brandon and Marie A Schappacher.

Now you know why conservatives are big on historical revisionism. Pesky historical facts like these contradict their alternative conservative reality.

Tampa Bay Times: Connie Mack battles polls, voter disinterest in bid to unseat Bill Nelson

"In 26 stops, Mack drew modest crowds and meager media attention. The steady drip of negative poll numbers had him battling expectations as much as barbs from his challenger, incumbent Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson. And with about four weeks before early voting begins, the general public still seems ambivalent."

WMR: Romney "family values" campaign cash siphoned from Chinese gamblers

WMR has discovered that the campaign of GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney has been receiving campaign cash donations from U.S.-owned casinos in the Macau Special Administrative Region, mostly though the auspices of Republicans Abroad, which maintains a large and active chapter in Hong Kong that also covers expatriate Republicans in Macau and the Guangdong province of southern China.

Three of the six casino operators in Macau are American-owned: Sheldon Adelson's Sands China, Steve Wynn's Wynn Resorts casino, and MGM, which is owned by private investors. Gambling is legal in Macau and the casinos draw millions of visitors from countries where gambling remains illegal: China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and a number of other countries in the region. Adelson and Wynn are supporters of the Republican Party.

Although Macau has instituted a "responsible gaming" program that seeks to deter gambling addicts, the Chinese are avid gamblers and the number of pawn shops in Macai attests to the fact that many Chinese and Hong Kong residents will hock everything from their wedding rings to expensive wristwatches to hit it big at the casinos.

Romney frequently talks about his commitment to "family values," yet his campaign is flush with money from Chinese gamblers whose addictions have broken apart families through divorce and even suicide.

Although Macau gaming authorities ensure that the casinos pay 42 percent tax to the Macau government, there are no tax declarations, such as those required by the Internal Revenue Service in the United States, made by casino winners, including high-stakes gamblers, at the Macau casinos.

In a variation of the infamous 1960s-era Las Vegas "skim," which saw the Italian mob pocket before-tax casino profits, the Macau skim that profits the Romney campaign is through tax-free winnings by high-stake gamblers in super-private VIP rooms. The unreported cash winnings are laundered through the maximally-allowed donations from southern China's Republicans Abroad, which is based in Hong Kong.

What is even more astounding is that the FBI's Legal Attache's office in Hong Kong is aware of the unique skim.

An agent from the FBI's Hong Kong office frequently travels to Macau to meet with security officials of the U.S.-owned casinos. WMR has learned from Hong Kong intelligence sources that the FBI has an arrangement with the Adelson-owned casinos to conduct covert surveillance operations of high-value guests, including senior Chinese government officials.

In return, the FBI has looked the other way as taxable cash "won" by Republicans abroad is funneled into the Romney campaign as legal "private" donations.

One ex-FBI agent who headed up security for the Sands Macau at its start-up in 2004 left his job after discovering certain practices that he termed "scary."

Adelson has been a multi-million dollar donor to the presidential campaigns of Romney and Newt Gingrich. However, partly as a result of the Supreme Court's Citizens United decision that recognizes corporations as people as far as political donations are concerned, campaign cash can be derived from a variety of sources, although foreign donations remain illegal.

What has been established in Macau is a virtual foreign cash source for Romney, one that has the appearance of legality through Republicans Abroad, but which is, nevertheless, illegal.

Adelson and Wynn have been at the center of an investigation over the payment of bribes to Macau officials.

The Adelson matter arose from charges made by the former CEO of Sands China, Steve Jacobs, after he was fired by Adelson. Jacobs charged that Adelson wanted to increase the availability of prostitutes at his Macau casinos: The Sands, The Venetian, the Sheraton Cotai Central, and The Plaza, to increase profits, which are generally down in Macau.

However, WMR found no evidence of rampant prostitution at Sands properties. Sands security appears to run a tight ship on the prostitution angle.

Congressman Bill Young releases misleading ad

This is the first ad coming from Congressman Bill Young’s re-election campaign.

CW Bill Young said:

“Taking care of our nation’s heroes is one of the most important parts of my job, and it is one of the reasons Beverly and I work so hard at it every day. Everyone who serves our nation in uniform is a hero, and deserves our thanks and appreciation.”

Unfortunately,Young has not been taking care of our nation's heroes  He has gotten two F grades in 2008 and 2010 for his lack of support for veterans programs form the Iraq and Afghan Veterans of America

We also wonder why a clergyman would be featured in a political ad.

Daily Kos: The Republican brand killed Mitt Romney

"September 27 – With all the polls now showing an Obama surge, Republicans are jockeying for position to lock in credible-sounding explanations for why he is losing, the Senate is slipping from their grasp and other down-ballot races are turning blue. The most popular trope is that Romney is a terrible candidate. Popular arguments range from that he’s not really a conservative, to he’s not competent, to he won’t unshackle Paul Ryan, and to he just needs to be more aggressive.
What’s lost in the scrum of all this blame-shifting is the salient understanding that the product -- not the pitch man -- is the problem."
Rightardia agrees with this editorial's conclusions. The GOP is an old dog that hasn't learned any new tricks. However, Obama has defined the Democrats as the champion of the middle class and the the Occupy movement has defined the GOP as the party of the one per cent. It would be more accurate to state the GOP represents the interests of the top 10 per cent.
Meanwhile, we hear the same old BS about supply side economics, deregulation and US militarism form the GOP. While we are still coming out of a recession. We hear talk from the GOP about cutting Medicare, Social Security, food stamps and the Veterans Administration. In the past the GOP didn't mind taking on the poor, but going after seniors and vets prior to an election doesn't seem very bright.
The GOP also decides to attack the fastest growing demographic in the US, Hispanics and then initiates a war on women with as series of political blunders.
God grief. How can this party expect to win elections? There just aren't enough angry white men to swing an election anymore for the GOP. Apparently, even the wealth of billionaires like the Koch Brothers isn't enough to subvert the US democracy.

As NFL Refs Return AFL-CIO Says Union Trained Workers Do Better Jobs

By Doug Cunningham

NFL union refs are back in the game after reaching a tentative eight-year labor agreement with the NFL. Refs were scheduled to vote on ratification of the agreement Friday.

The refs keep their regular pensions until 2017 when they will be switched over to 401(k) plans.

The NFL Referees Association says its pleased to be back to work after having been locked out by the NFL in June. AFL-CIO President Rich Trumka says the football season can now get back on track.

Trumka says the awful scab ref call in the Green Bay-Seattle game underscores that no one does their job better that workers who have union training and a voice on the job.

Trumka says Crystal Sugar workers have been locked out for more than a year and don’t have the national stage the refs do, but it’s the same corporate greed behind it.

So, Trumka says, for NFL fans and workers everywhere fighting for a voice on the job it’s game on!

Think Progress: Florida Officially Restarts Voter Purge

Florida has officially restarted it’s controversial purge of registered voters less than 6 weeks before election day. Governor Rock Scott’s intention to resume the effort, detailed in a PowerPoint presentation, was first reported by ThinkProgress.

Initially, Florida identified 180,000 potential non-citizens to be purged from the voter rolls. That list was subsequently narrowed down to 2600 “sure fire” non-citizens. When it became clear in early June that even the smaller list was riddled with errors, elections officials stopped the effort.

According to the Miami Herald, Florida has sent just 198 names to local election supervisors. (Of those, no more than 36 have ever cast a ballot.) But there is already evidence that the latest list still is not accurate.

Jonathan Michael Snow is Democratic Congressional Candidate for Florida's 12th District

Meet your new Democratic candidate for the  12th congressional district seat.

A first generation American, Jonathan Michael Snow was born in Munster, Indiana in 1987, of a Greek-Turkish mother and a French-Irish-Native American father.
Jonathan moved to Florida in 1994 where he attended school in Tarpon Springs, Florida.
He graduated from St. Nicolas Greek School in 2000 and went on to Tarpon Springs High School. During his senior year at Tarpon Springs, he served as the Managing Editor of the school newspaper, The Independent Observer -- since renamed the Sponger Express.
Jonathan served as Vice-President of the Tarpon Springs High School Young Democrats. In 2005, Jonathan graduated Summa Cum Laude from Tarpon Springs High.
Jonathan attended St. Petersburg College and graduated Summa Cum Laude with an Associate in Arts degree in 2007. He then went on to the University of South Florida, graduating Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History.
Jonathan served as a substitute teacher for Pinellas County Schools for two years where he received numerous commendations from teachers and students. Currently, Jonathan is employed as a Photo Specialist for Walgreens.
While attending USF, Jonathan served first as State Committeeman and then as Vice-President of the Pinellas County Young Democrats.
As a leader in the Young Democrats, Jonathan promoted voter registration, youth engagement in politics, and community clean-up programs. Currently he is a Board Member for the Tarpon Springs Democratic Club.
Jonathan believes the vast majority of Americans agree on a great deal of issues and wants to be a part of uniting Americans behind common sense solutions to fix our problems.
Together, we the people, can once again, work to put this country back on the right track. However, Congressional Republicans want to continue playing the politics of diversion and division! And, if they’re successful in this election, the programs Republicans propose will take us back to the same exact policies that got us into this economic mess in the first place!

Snow is running against Gus Bilirakis for the 12th district seat. We wish him luck. Florida needs some new Democratic blood to represent us in Washington DC.

Tampa Bay Times: Why no concern about the real place there might be voter fraud?

"In case you missed it, there were some worrisome developments involving absentee ballots in South Florida just last month. Two people were arrested and charged with illegally collecting and/or falsifying absentee ballots in the primary election. A couple of judicial candidates also told the Miami Herald they were approached by brokers offering to deliver absentee ballots in their favor if the candidates paid thousands of dollars for the service. This type of broker is commonly known as a boletero."

A message from Bill Nelson's better half, Grace

Grace and Bill Nelson

Dear Eric,

I was originally writing to you to share my personal observations of Bill after 40 years of marriage. I hope you still will permit me to do so.

Bill lost his parents at an early age and had to accept responsibility quickly. I knew then that he would take care of me and our family.

I want you to know that he is, at home and in our private life, the same caring and trustworthy person that he strives to be as a public servant.

He has proven to be worthy of the public trust that he has been given by the people of Florida. Bill represents all Floridians, not just those who vote for him but also those who don't vote for him and those who don't vote at all.

He considers it a privilege to serve in the U.S. Senate representing Florida and our country.

He needs our help now. I hope and ask that you will consider continuing to support him.

Much love,

Grace Nelson

Jessica Ehrlich notes Rep. BIll Young has been dodging voters and debates

Published on Sep 25, 2012 by
Jessica Ehrlich to Congressman Bill Young: Please do not confuse voters with "stalkers"

St Petersburg, FL - Jessica Ehrlich, the Democratic Party's nominee against 42-year incumbent Republican Congressman Bill Young in Florida's 13th district (Pinellas County) issued the following statement regarding repo

"I am deeply relieved to learn Congressman Young and his family have not suffered any physical harm following reports his home has been allegedly burglarized over the past several years. And I have faith the Indian Shores police department will continue their thorough investigation. Following the attack on Rep. Giffords, nothing can be taken lightly."

"However, I am disturbed by several comments made by Congressman Young in today's story. The Congressman acknowledged he is 'more on guard' after he was 'recently caught on video' telling a voter who asked him a question about raising the minimum wage to 'get a job'. He also said he is 'not used to this kind of personal treatment' and claimed he was being 'stalked'."

"With all due respect to Congressman Young, I think he is confusing voters legitimately inquiring about his stances on important issues with being 'stalkers'. Thousands of Floridians saw the video of Congressman Young telling a young man repeatedly to 'get a job' after he respectfully asked Young a question. Further, Young, in another incident 'caught on video', walked away from a military veteran asking him a question about our treatment of America's returning military heroes."

"If Congressman Young wants to earn a 43rd year in Congress he needs to stop confusing voters with stalkers."

"If Congressman Young had held a town hall meeting or attended a debate, his constituents would not need to approach him to find out his positions. After four decades in Congress, Bill Young needs to explain his vote to 'voucherize' Medicare.

As a member of the House Appropriations Committee that controls Washington spending, he needs to answer for our record budget deficit. And with thousands of Pinellas County voters struggling in this economy, his economic plan needs to be more than 'get a job'.

"I believe a seat in Congress is something to be earned. That's why I have been campaigning tirelessly, outlining my plan to protect Medicare, to cut wasteful government spending, and to protect our middle class. I have attended all of the recent candidate forums and have never seen Congressman Young."

"We don't need a Congressman simply occupying a seat in Congress and being 'on his guard' with voters. It's time for leadership and advocacy. I will put my real world, hands-on business experience to work fighting for Pinellas County's economic future."

Note: CW Bill Young had thought his condo has been burglarized but the local police disagreed.

Can the outcome of the presidential election be clearer? Keep in mind, too, that Intrade is an Irish company and IPredict is in NZ.

Scott Swope for sheriff

Swope Banner Smaller
When Rick Scott appointed Bob Gualtieri as interim Sheriff, Gualtieri decided to cut the fugitive section, a bureau of 16 deputies whose primary responsibility was to review and serve arrest warrants.

As a result, Pinellas County now is second in the state in unserved warrants -- 56,000 of them, and almost 15,000 of those are for felony charges.Gualtieri asserts that a warrants database accessible from squad car computers allows those deputies to do the work once done by detectives.

But, according to the Tampa Bay Times: “experts and officials at other large law enforcement agencies cast doubt on that claim. Tracking down fugitives, they say, requires a level of investigative zeal that cannot realistically be expected from deputies who are also responsible for policing the streets.”

(To read the article, click here.)

In the best interests of the safety of all Pinellas residents -- Democrats, Republicans, Independents, and those who aren't even registered to vote -- we ask that you read the article, comment on it, share it with your friends, and support Scott Swope, the Democrat running to replace Gualtieri.

Scott Swope will immediately reinstate the Fugitive Section if elected, and will work with all of us to make sure our civil rights are respected, and our streets are safer.
