The Family and the "new realities" of conservatives

Ron Suskind in an October 17, 2004, The New York Times Magazine article by writer , quoted  an unnamed aide to George W. Bush. The quote was later attributed to Karl Rove.

The aide said that Suskind lives "in what we call the reality-based community," which he defined as people who "believe that solutions emerge from your judicious study of discernible reality." ...

"That's not the way the world really works anymore. We're an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you're studying that reality—judiciously, as you will—we'll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that's how things will sort out. We're history's actors…and you, all of you, will be left to just study what we do."

This is essentially the philosophy of The Family and Douglas Coe.  The Family or The Fellowship, a secretive militant fundamentalist Christian association led by Coe.

Coe admires power and compares Jesus to “Lenin, Ho Chi Minh, Bin Laden” as examples of leaders who change the world through the strength of the covenants they had forged with their “brothers.”

He preached that  special people are not bound by social conventions. He admired the grandiose plans of some notorious leaders and their ability to wield power.

Coe compared Jesus's teachings to the Red Guard during the Chinese Cultural Revolution:

I’ve seen pictures of young men in the Red Guard of China... they would bring in this young man’s mother and father, lay her on the table with a basket on the end, he would take an axe and cut her head off.... They have to put the purposes of the Red Guard ahead of the mother-father-brother-sister – their own life! That was a covenant. A pledge. That was what Jesus said.

Jeff Sharlet wrote a book about the family based on living in the family's C-street dorm in Washington DC. He considers the family a Christian activist organization and not a conspiracy. Many conservative US representatives and Senators have lived in this dorm

The Family can trace its origins to Abraham Vereide, a Norwegian clergyman, who had fascist leanings and catered to the Republican "outs" during the New Deal. Vereide was the founder of what eventually became the National Prayer breakfast.

Hasn't the RNC learned anything?

The RNC is trying to raise money and if you donate $5 or more, they will send you the following bumper sticker.

Rightardia has suggested the Republican party would be wise not the mention GW Bush at all. He was not present at the RNC presidential convention at Tampa and was absent in the Romney campaign for president. He didn't even show for the second inauguration of Obama.

Jeb Bush tired to unsuccessfully to revise his brother by suggesting he was really not responsible for the Great Recession. Well, GW and his administration was. the facts are undeniable.

Two unfunded wars that were hid from the Defense budget with supplemental appropriations, tax cuts that gave the most affluent Americans a $64,000 tax break and another unfunded program, the Medicare Part D Prescription Drug program.  Mix that in with the Bush (home) Ownership society  and the cause of the great recession is pretty clear.

A George mason Poll of historians rated GW Bush as the worst president ever. Wikipedia places GW bsuh is the bottom quartile of presidents. More than 80 per cent of 415 historians regard his presidency as failure.

The Republican attempt to revive this man's reputation is doomed for failure. Better to let this sleeping job lie.

Democrats were cutting jokes all over the place when the Bush Lie-berry opened. Some said the library contained mostly fiction titles, Others wondered where the comic and coloring book sections were. in this library.

The Republican Party continues to be the Party of the Stupid, a term Paul Krugman coined.

The RNC bumper sticker is a testimony to this.

GW Bush will leave a black stain on American history

GW Bush on his presidency:

History will ultimately judge the decisions that were made for Iraq and I'm just not going to be around to see the final verdict.

In other words, I'll be dead.

In 2006, 744 professional historians surveyed by Siena College regarded Bush's presidency as follows:

Great: 2%;
Near Great: 5%;
Average: 11%; Below Average: 24%;
Failure: 58%.

Thomas Kelly, professor emeritus of American studies at Siena College, said

In this case, current public opinion polls actually seem to cut the President more slack than the experts do.

Rightardia suggests the higher public perception is related to partisan politics and the 47 per cent of Americans who usually vote Republican.

The Siena College outcome were similar to two informal surveys done by the History News Network in 2004 and 2008.[

Bush was later dismissive of the negative evaluations by historians.

GW Bush said:

to assume that historians can figure out the effect of the Bush administration before the Bush administration has ended is just ... in my mind ... not an accurate reflection upon how history works.

In 2010 Siena College poll conducted a of 238 Presidential scholars.

Bush was ranked 39th out of 43, with poor ratings in handling of the economy, communication, ability to compromise, foreign policy accomplishments and intelligence.

In Wikipedia's Historical rankings of Presidents of the United States, GW Bush was ranked in the bottom quarter of presidents in his last 5 ratings. His average rating including the two early surveys in his presidency was 31 of the 44 presidents.

Historians have already evaluated the GW bush presidency and that it is doubtful that time will improve his tarnished domestic and international image.

GW Bush is no Harry Truman, who had a sparkling intellect. Bush was a bumbler who constantly misspoke and a man who led America into two unjust and unfunded wars. He will leave a  black stain on American history.

Republicans Confront the Reality That America Just Isn't That Into Them

Having worked with OFA in both 2008 and 202, the Votebuilder technology was great but the legion of activist Democrats behind it is what made it work. The Democrats had more feet on the street and we had not interest in conceding the election to  a one per center like Mitt Romney.

Our bloggers and FB networking efforts were probably more effective than the GOP effort. I made an extensive effort to keep conservatives off my FB page because FB allows you to black other FB users.

After years of battling conservatives on Usenet, I knew the conservatives would disrupt my FB page if I would let them on it. . So I now have more than 100 peole blocked and my FB page consists mostly of constructive posts by liberal and progressives. I have several international posters, too.

The Rightardia blog and FB pages have  never been designed  to converting conservatives into liberals and progressives. There are more Democrats than Republicans. Why waste time with conservatives?

We just need to get our base out to vote and attract some independent and moderate voters. We don't need Republicans to win, particularly the establishment types, ditto heads or Tea Baggers.

We  organised and mobilized to win the last election. We don't need to convert Republican votes to Democrat.  But the GOP does need to convert some Democritus to win.

Mos Democrats are well-aware of the great conservative social contract that started with Ronald Reagan and ended with the Great Recession during the GW Bush administration. Supply side economics an deregulation didn't work.

Yes, Americans just aren't into Republicans anymore. The country tried the conservative way and it didn't work. In fact, most conservative ideas sucked badly!

View of the candidates from a retired Air Force officer

I have never hid my affiliation with the Armed Services and looked forward to watching last night's debate. I watch international events closely because I was a former intelligence officer.

I saw one man who can handle the job as commander-in-chief (CINC). This is a tough job when you consider that two-thirds of the men in the Armed Forces are Evangelicals. This is not a crowd that necessarily appreciates Democrats.

Both Obama and his wife and the Biden family have made every effort to reach out to the Armed Forces. The Joint Chiefs of Staff have good listeners in the White House. The friction that existed between the general officers and the Bush White House was clear. Donald Rumsfeld came across as one of the dumbest Secretaries of Defense that I can recall.

The misadventures of Dubya led to two unfunded wars in the middle east and a crippling deficit when coupled with the Bush tax cuts , Mittens knows this and tried to portray himself as a foreign policy moderate last night rather than as a chicken hawk he has has been projecting with the conservative base.

Was Mitten's performance last night believable?

Rightardia doesn't think so. If Mittens were elected, our allies would drop like flies and harsh international rhetoric would restart.

Negotiations with Iran would end and the middle east would become a more dangerous place.

Keep in mind that foreign policy is part of national defense. You try to work out agreements using diplomacy  with nations so military force doesn't have to be used.

The Republican view is dyslexic, use military force and justify your actions retroactively  In the case of the Iraq invasion, the Bush administration claimed Iraq has phantom Weapons of Mass Destruction and also planned a Unmanned Aerial Vehicle attack on the US.

Both stories were right wing baloney.

Republicans prefer the stick to the carrot. The hawkish Progress for a New American Century (PNAC) wrote in Rebuilding America’s Defenses, September 2000, Project for a New American Century, www.newamericancentury.org:

While the unresolved conflict with Iraq provides the immediate justification, the need for a substantial American force presence in the Gulf transcends the issue of the regime of Saddam Hussein ...

Although Mittens has been hammering Obama on Israel  he didn't say much about it last night. It was interesting although Bibi Namenyahu wants some red lines in the sand, Iran will not have a nuclear bomb for at least four years. In addition, Iran has no nuclear delivery system.

If you think Mittens will be a foreign policy moderate  think again! About two thirds of his foreign policy advisers are hawks from the Bush administration who believe war is good for corporate profits.

Whey spend federal revenues on roads and bridges when you can start a war and put billions into the conservative defense industries in which the defense CEOs are better paid than the banksters?

War is increasingly becoming a national GOP drill that favors conservative corporations.

Of course, If you have someone like John Bolton on your reelection team, be afraid, very afraid!

When Mittens was governor of MA, he tried the run the state as it CEO. He is a "read my lips" director type and not a good listener.

It is clear that Obama is doing fine job as commander -in-chief and head of state. Mittens would enter the White House on training wheels with his limited national and foreign policy experience.

Would he be smart enough to listen to his generals? Rightardia doubts it. GW Bush certainly didn't listen to his senior officers. If he had, the US would have never invaded Iraq.

Romney's performance last night convinced me he would be a mediocre CINC at best.

Commentary Magazine: W’s Self-Imposed GOP Exile

"In an interview on National Review Online’s “Uncommon Knowledge” program, Bush said: “I crawled out of the swamp, and I’m not crawling back in.” While his decision to remain aloof from partisanship is praiseworthy in that it shows his respect for the office he held and a belief that interference from past presidents is usually unhelpful, I think Bush’s self-imposed exile isn’t healthy for American political culture."

Rightardia doesn't think GW bush was the victim of a 'perfect storm." His first term went well because he inherited the good policies of Bill Clinton which he undid in the next four years.

Bush started two unnecessary wars, reduced the reserves of the investment banks and pushed Ownership Society policies that unraveled US real estate.

He was a bad`president. He was a man who was not presidential material.

We suspect he received an insincere invitation to the Tampa convention in which he was told by Rince Priebus you will be invited, but please don't come.

GW Bush endorsed Mitt Romney is a chance encounter with media in a DC elevator.Within a week he had a top secret call with Mitr Romeny that probably went something like this.

Mittens: I heard you endorsed me. I thought we talked about that before,

GW: Sure, but what could I do. Did you want me to endorse Obama.

Mittens: No, just don't endorse anyone. A lot of American haven't forgotten about you, and the RNC wants to blame the mess you created on Obama.

Mittens: Just enjoy you retirement and keep in the background. This will be all over soon and our two families can get together.

NewsDaily: George W. Bush will not attend Republican convention

I wasn't invited to the Tampa convention

NewsDaily (2012-07-20) -- Former President George W. Bush will not attend the Republican convention next month, his office said on Friday, skipping Mitt Romney's expected coronation as the party's White House nominee.

Remember the last time a CEO was president?

In case you forgot, this was the last GOP Establishment wimp who was president.

Both Mittens and Chimpoleon came form affluent families. In fact, when GW Bush arrived in Texas with his young wife, Laura, he put $10 million into a TX bank, probably a trust fund he received when he became of age.

GW Bush may have started the Iraq War to prove he was a man and earn his commander-in chief spurs.

He has paid a price for his stupid arrogance. Wikipedia ranks him in the bottom 25 per cent of presidents.

George W. Bush thinks:

The true history of my administration will be written 50 years from now, and you and I will not be around to see it.

The historians have already passed judgement on Chimpoleon. He is a failed president.

He will never be a statesman like Jimmy carter because he is despised internationally.

No amount of historical revisionism will revive this man's presidential legacy.

Gallup: Who gets the honors for the bad economy?

GW Bush still has the honors after three years by a 16 point margin!

What was Obama biggest mistakes with the economy?

First, he oversold himself and made too many promises. He thought he would have the Great recession fixed in one term. He was wrong.

Second,he spent 15 months on healthcare while he could have been paying more attention to job creation and housing.

Third, the stimulus woked, but only 30 per cent of the funds were spent on infrastrucure. Seventy per cent was spent on defense, which seems to be a very obtuse way to kick-start the economy.

Miss us yet?

It appears America has had some collective amnesia about the GOP when a Republican president is elected.

The best way to avoid owner's regret is not to elect a Republican president.

One of these men was stupid and the other was evil. The one in the middle was a lack luster establishment Republican.

Media Matters: “ Miss Me Yet?“ Bush Economic Makeover Hinges On Collective Amnesia

"This is a problem for conservatives. Mitt Romney's economic team is littered with the very people who built the Bush economy. Republican officials themselves have acknowledged that Romney's economic vision is based on the model created by Bush. During an April radio interview, RNC spokeswoman Alexandra Franceschi was asked how Republican economic policies differed from the Bush economy, and she responded: "I think it's that program, just updated."
