Al Jazeera English: President Obama: The prudence of following Hollande's lead

New French president, François Hollande

"Reporting on the efforts of House Republicans to cut domestic spending, including food stamps, in order to protect military spending, Bloombergnotes that the annual cost of the food stamp programme, which is now serving forty-six million Americans, are projected to reach $80bn. Quelle horreur! Guess what we're already slated to spend on the Afghanistan war this year? $88.5bn.

Which is more important: making sure that forty-six million Americans - including children who have no say about anything - have enough food to eat? Or keeping the Afghan war policy on autopilot until 2014, even though we aren't accomplishing anything there that requires keeping 88,000 US troops in harm's way? "

Rightardia agrees with this assessment. the new french president Hollande, who is a socialist, is unlikely to stall the withdrawal of French troops. Obama is also unlikely to withdraw US troops form Afghanistan until after the election.

St. Petersburg Times now called Tampa Bay Times

The wonderful St. Petersburg times is now called the Tampa Bay Times. The Times is one of the best newspapers in the southeast and we greatly appreciate the ability to post some of their articles and editorials.

The only other news entities we are aware of that allows the complete news article to be posted are Ria Novosti and Russia Today.

Of course, many media such as Al Jazeera allow Blogger to post links which we embellish with copy and a picture or a video.

Opinion - Al Jazeera English: Newt Gingrich puts Israel interests first

Newt espouses neo-conservative views that would cause another middle east war

But even more problematic is the fact that Gingrich told (Steven) Weiss he would consider granting clemency to one of the most notorious spies ever to infiltrate our national security agencies: Johathon Pollard.

Kristin Szremski is the director of media and communications for the American Muslims for Palestine, a national grassroots organisation.

Everybody hates Newt Romney - Opinion - Al Jazeera English

"Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney - the perfect dynamic duo for our times, if not the end times.
A Batman and Robin for the one per cent. Defenders of truth, justice, and a Gulag Achipelago filled with child janitors and the fandango of the foreclosed . . .
Romney is handsome with his hair dry-iced to his scalp. Gingrich, well, let's just leave it at this: go back and watch some old 1980s episodes of Jake and the Fatman.

Al Jazeera Opinion: 'Looking beyond Obama to 'The Golden Age'

Outlaw Obama

"A few short weeks ago, President Obama was on top of the world - or so it seemed.

He first pushed back against the growing wave of domestic silliness by releasing his long-form birth certificate, turning Donald Trump - his temporary leading GOP challenger at the time - into a laughing stock. Then he announced the killing of bin Laden, the number one man behind the 9/11 attacks.

It was, some suggested, a major turning point. American confidence was back. The US could finally chart a new course, away from the Bush-era "long war" quagmire, as many had hoped would happen when Obama was first elected. There was new space for relationships to be re-defined.

Who knows? The Arab Spring might even be fully embraced by the US. At the very least, resources could be refocused on reviving the economy at home. Five weeks later, all that is gone . . ."

What US conservatives never saw coming - Opinion - Al Jazeera English

"While many American conservatives were quicker to warm to the recent Arab revolutions than the Obama administration, they were wrong to have always assumed that American power was the essential ingredient for change in the region . . .

While conservatives such as Bush spoke enthusiastically about the universality of democracy they remained convinced that beneficial change would come about in only one of two ways: Regime change or gradual internal reform. In either case, American power and support were considered the essential element. American inaction meant either the maintenance of the status quo or the spread of Islamic radicalism.

In many ways, this myopic, American-centric view of power and change continues to govern both conservative and liberal American views of the Arab world. What conservatives never saw coming, along with the majority of American foreign policy analysts, was the manner in which the Arab world has changed in recent months. It turns out America was not the essential catalyst for change that everyone assumed."

Al Jazeera editorial: Obama does not get it

Obama does not get it - Opinion - Al Jazeera English

Egypt and Beyond!Image by freestylee via Flickr
Barack Obama, the US president, has still not fully grasped the essence of the revolutions underway in the Arab world.

He genuinely seems to believe that the people rallying for democracy in the region are making a pro-Western, if not pro-Israeli, statement.

Obama recently told a group of Democrats in Florida:

All the forces that we're seeing at work in Egypt are forces that naturally should be aligned with us, should be aligned with Israel - if we make good decisions now and we understand sort of the sweep of history.

I am not sure how Obama drew this conclusion . . .

Rightrdia agrees. The US has made progress in the  Arab world ut in t will take years to earn the trust of these nations until we maintain a more neutral foreign policy with Israel.

It is unlikely that any Arab country could risk being an Israeli ally without becoming a pariah in the rest of the Arab world.
