Republican Party Only winning In Southern States

The Huffington Post | Elyse Siegel Posted: 08-12-10 05:27 PM

The GOP has a HUGE generic-ballot edge in the South (52%-31%), but it doesn't lead anywhere else. In the Northeast, Dems have a 55%-30% edge; in the Midwest, they lead 49%-38%; and in the West, it's 44%-43%.

MSNBC notes that many of the races in which Republicans stand to make electoral gains are taking place in the South "where you have whiter and older voters," or in congressional districts with Southern-like constituencies.

Earlier this year, Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele raised eyebrows when he suggested the GOP for decades has pursued a "'Southern Strategy' that alienated many minority voters by focusing on the white male vote in the South."

Speaking at DePaul University, Steele -- the first African-American to chair the RNC -- told a group of students that African-Americans "don't have a reason" to vote for Republican candidates.

After the 2008 election, some of the pundits on MSNBC predicted the GOP could become a regional party with permanent minority status. This seems to be the case. It looks like the Democrats need to concentrate on the Western races.

Research 2000 poll does not provide good news for the GOP

With all the noise the GOP has been making about Obama and the Democratic health care initiative, this strategy doesn't seem to be winning the hearts and minds of Americans. This survey that was completed about one month ago suggests the GOP will be facing an uphill battle in the next election cycle.

The Republican strategist, Ed Rollins, is correct. The GOP needs to stop attacking Obama who is a popular president. The GOP would be better off on concentrating their efforts on electing state Republican representatives and senators.

It also appears that many Democratic pundits were correct: the GOP has became a regional Southern party with permanent minority status.

Zogby: GOP Faces Extinction Risk

Rightardia comment: The problem the GOP has is that the right wing zealots and ditto heads that make up most of the party want to move it to the right. These people represent nearly 60 per cent of the GOP. If they succeed in taking over the party, the GOP will become a regional party with permanent minority status. It is also noteworthy that John Zogby's polls have often been wrong.

Pollster John Zogby said that the Republican Party could be "teetering on the brink" of extinction as it fails to appeal to the fastest-growing demographic groups in America.

He said the GOP is not taking advantage of Democratic setbacks because it has no alternative policies of its own.

Zogby is CEO of Zogby International, a firm he started in 1984.

Could the Republican Party really become extinct?

"Let's face it, it could be teetering on the brink," he declared.

Zogby also stated that Republicans are "swimming against the tide of demography."
