Politifact on the two presidential candiates

Barack Obama vs Mitt Romney in Denver Presidential Debate

What candidate is more truthful?. That is the question.

Politifact on Mitt Romney: About 30 per cent of what Mitt Romney says is true or mostly true while 26 per cent is false or pants on fire.

True29 (16%)(29)
Mostly True25 (14%)(25)
Half True51 (28%)(51)
Mostly False32 (17%)(32)
False31 (17%)(31)
Pants on Fire16 (9%)(16)

Now Let take a look a Obama: 55 per cent is true or mostly true while only 16 per cent is false or pants on fire.

True 96 (22%)(96)
Mostly True101 (23%)(101)
Half True113 (26%)(113)
Mostly False52 (12%)(52)
False62 (14%)(62)
Pants on Fire7 (2%)(7)

see http://www.politifact.com/personalities/barack-obama/
http://www.politifact.com/personalities/mitt-romney/

Conclusion: Obama is running a campaign that is significantly more honest and accurate than the Romney campaign. You are far less likely to hear the truth from Team Romney.

This is sad state of affairs  for a man who has been a Mormon bishop. You would think Mittens would demand more integrity in his campaign.

If the truth will set you free, vote Democratic!

Tampa Bay Times is anti-blog

A blogger unfriendly newspaper

The ST. Petersburg times has been a progressive voice in the wilderness in central Florida. Today it is called the Tampa Bay Times.

When Rightardia started this blog, we could load HTML code from St, Petersbug Times articles that displayed an article verbatim and also allowed the St. Pete Times to run ads within the article.

It was tricky to load one of the Times articles, but it was worth the effort. About two months ago, the Times discontinued the practice and went straight to standard blog hyperlinks that allow one of their articles with attribution to be posted on a variety of blogs.

Many media use this approach. If you click on the title to the article in Rightardia, it takes you to the original.

Tampa Times "sharing" options

However, the Tampa Times discontinued the crossposting to blogs. All the Times has now including its Buzz Politics section is a basic share button that allows a user to post to Twitter, Facebook and some rating services. Oddly, the Times' Poltifact, is not shareable at all: not even to Twittter of Facebook.

This makes the Tampa times of little use to bloggers. Fortunately, TBO.com does allow it articles to be shared so that is what we are now using to check for local news.

Rightardia is disappointed in the Times. We are certainly no threat to this newspaper and would expect this sort of selfishness in a conservative paper , but not the Times!

However, the conservative Tampa Trib shares its news on TBO.com.

Republican governor tells big fat lie

Rightardia wrote an article about this last week. the Obama economic stimulus base on classic Keynesian economics is outperforming the EU that chose an austerity path. A socialist has replaced the conservative leader in France and another socialist leader may take he helm in Greece.

Europeans quickly tired of the austerity measures.

Apparently many Republicans are dyslexic and turn facts around. Gov. Bob McDonnell got the story wrong.

The US economy is outperforming the European and this is due to the Obama economic stimulus.

Need proof? See the chart that follows:

PolitiFact: Five of the most significant falsehoods about the health care law

"The Affordable Care Act, the Democrats' health care law, has often been defined more by falsehoods than truths. So with the U.S. Supreme Court holding arguments next week about whether the law is constitutional, we've review our fact-checks to highlight five of the most significant falsehoods that we've checked in the past year. "

Tampa Bay Times Politifact: A roundup of fact-checked Romneyisms

Politifact checked some Romney quotes and found many of Mittens assertions to be untrue. Here is the worst  exaggeration:

Romney: This president began his presidency by apologizing for America.
Politifact examined Obama's speeches, searched for "sorry" (and got no hits) and had experts on apologies review the speeches.

Obama has used diplomatic language to express the idea that the United States isn't always perfect, but he never apologized.

Politifact rated Romney's statement Pants on Fire.

Michele Bachmann to drop out of primary race

This Christian soldier bites the dust

Michele Bachmann finished with 5 per cent of the Iowa vote while her evangelical competitor, Rick Santorum, finished with 25 per cent. Santorum was 8 votes shy of beating Mitt Romney who dropped $700,000 on the primary election.

The IA results suggest there isn't a great deal of enthusiasm for Romney .

Santorum has yet to be vetted and there is plenty of material to attack him with. He has made numerous gaffes.Rightardia thinks that Pastor Mike Huckabee from the 2008 primaries was a far better candidate that Rick Santorum will ever be.

Santorum's evangelical family values platform won't work with independents and Democrats in this economy.

Rightardia noticed that Bachmann had cancelled several campaign events a few days ago and did not appear to be heading to SC.

So good riddance. Politifact rated Bachman as tops with false statements and pants on fire lies. Don't hit your head on the way out, Michele!

The other Evangelical, Rick Perry, is also dropping out. He has some gray matter issues. Being from TX didn't help either.

Jesus gave those drop-outs  their just rewards.

Politifact: Time to rate the GOP candidates

What GOP candidates have the most "truthiness?"  Ron Paul is the clear leader followed by Jon Huntsman. Mittens comes in third in terms of "trues" and mostly "trues."

The overwhelming liar in the group in Michele Bachmann which probably explains why her campaign imploded. She is followed by The Newster.

Rick Santorum did OK by hiding in the weeds. He has only been rated by Politifact 13 times.

Opinion - Al Jazeera English: Enshrining the lies of the US' 1%

"There is a potential lie-of-the-year in that paragraph. It's just not the one that PolitiFact thinks it found.

The real lie is the claim that Ryan's plan "is necessary because of the programme's soaring costs". In fact, the problem isn't Medicare per se, it's the entire cost structure of American medicine as a whole, which is roughly twice the per capita cost of healthcare spending in other advanced countries - even those that have 50 per cent more people aged 65+ than the US has.

The reason for that cost structure is non-competitive private oligopolies - insurance companies, drug companies, hospital chains, etc., - in sharp contrast to other countries with their government-run systems of various different kinds. There's another name for these oligopolies -they are the cash cows of the one per cent. Paul Ryan is their man, and PolitiFact is part of their protection system.

Indeed, as Thomas Ferguson and Robert Johnson explained just over a year ago, in their paper "A World Upside Down? Deficit Fantasies in the Great Recession", all of the US long-term federal debt is due to just three oligopoly sectors: the military-industrial complex (the backbone of empire, with bases all around the world and almost half the world's military spending), the medical-industrial complex (with twice the per capita costs of other systems), and the financial sector (which has recently cost trillions of dollars in lost wealth and economic activity)."
