Cryptome: TOR Made for US government Open Source Spying Says Maker

Why would any government create something their enemies can easily use against them, then continue funding it once they know it helps the enemy, if a government has absolutely no control over it? It's that simple.

It would seem a very bad idea. Stop looking at it from a conspiracy standpoint and consider it as a common sense question. Because it helps the government as well. An anonymity network thatonly the US government uses is fairly useless.

One that everyone uses is much more useful, and if your enemies use it as well that's very good, because then they can't cut off access without undoing their ownwork.

BINGO, we have a winner! The original *QUESTION* posed that led to the invention of Onion Routing was, "Can we build a system that allows for
bi-directional communications over the Internet where the source and destination cannot be determined by a mid-point?"

The *PURPOSE* was for DoD/Intelligence usage (open source intelligence gathering, covering of forward deployed assets, whatever). Not helping dissidents in repressive countries.

Not assisting criminals in covering their electronic tracks. Not helping bit-torrent users avoid MPAA/RIAA prosecution. Not giving a 10 year old a way to bypass an anti-porn filter.

Of course, we knew those would be other unavoidable uses for the technology, but that was immaterial to the problem at hand we were trying to solve (and if those uses were going to give us more cover traffic to better hide what we wanted to use the network for, all the better...I once told a flag officer that much to his chagrin).

I should know, I was the recipient of that question from David, and Paul was brought into the mix a few days later after I had sketched out a basic (flawed) design for the original Onion Routing.

The short answer to your question of "Why would the government do this?" is because it is in the best interests of some parts of the government to have this capability... Now enough of the conspiracy theories...

-Michael

Rightrdia believes if the US government--probably NSA--developed the Onion Network, there is probably a back door. The Onion Network could be used to undermine a statist or dictatorial government like Libya. Of course, many of these governments like Egypt are US clients, too.

Such a network could also be the outgrowth of the Ntrepid, a US government contractor software that can break into any Internet network with fake Internet personas and IP addresses to promote the US interests in the middle east, Latin, South America and other areas.

Cryptome thinks Rudof Elmer CD could contain a Trojan

16 January 2011--Reports of ex-Swiss banker Rudolf Elmer to hand over CDs of data to Wikileaks (WL) today is intriguing timing.

Presumably WL will treat the ostentatious handover and disk with extreme care to avoid being entrapped by a plea-induced sting and implantation of a hidden Trojan or marker to trace the path of the data from the disk to publication .

A scenario like this could have occurred with the CD or DVD that it is alleged Bradley Manning could have provided to WL.

Open disclosure by a source of a submission to WL is rare, and admission by WL of receiving material from a source even more so.

An untraceable, unidentifiable-source air gap between source and publication is a primary WL security claim -- to protect the source but more importantly to protect WL from entrapment and trace of data flow.

For this reason WL often denies any link to Bradley Manning or any other source and in accord with good data security practice carefully reformats received data to limit likelihood of covert incrimination.

Rightardia thinks WL would be smart to turn over a copy of Elmer's data to IRS.  This would do more damage to the tax scoff-laws than any WL public revelations.

WMR: Israeli involvement in Chinese Missile Launch

December 6, 2010

Wayne Madsen Reports (WMR) and U.S. intelligence sources suggest hat China was able to launch an intercontinental ballistic missile off the coast of Los Angeles on November 8 thanks to classified U.S. Navy missile and submarine technology stolen by Israeli intelligence agents.

This  involved in a top secret National Security Agency (NSA) joint project in the 1980s. Israel subsequently passed the data on to the Chinese in return for lucrative defense contracts for Israeli companies with the Chinese People's Liberation Army.

The Israeli espionage operation was previously reported by WMR: " . . . Veterans of the RCA-NSA-Israeli joint SIGINT program code named DINDI report that Israeli engineer spies used the carve out contract with NSA, through RCA, to gain access to NSA and U.S. Navy secrets.
In an RCA facility in Mount Laurel, NJ, the Israeli engineers had their own secured lab. For three years that DINDI ran, they were walking out with their briefcases loaded with equipment, including scopes.
When RCA engineers finally gained access to their lab, they found the prints laid out for the Trident missile system. RCA had an ongoing contract to develop the Trident communications suite at the time of the security leak.
The Israeli engineers on DINDI claimed they were from the Israeli Air Force but months later, an RCA engineer was in New York and he ran into the same Israelis, but they were wearing Israeli Navy uniforms.

One ex-RCA engineer commented about the DINDI Israeli spies: "They were all a nice bunch of guys, even when they had their hands in your pockets."

The Israeli espionage operations against primarily U.S. Navy secrets was aided by long-term New Jersey 3rd congressional district Republican Representative Jim Saxton.

Saxton, who served on the House Armed Services Committee, ensured that his district's defense contractors, including RCA, received lucrative defense and intelligence contracts.

Sensitive intelligence was then available for the taking by the large Mossad contingent that embedded itself in a major center for Saxton political and financial support, Cherry Hill, which has a large Jewish population.

In return, Saxton received large donations from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee. In fact, Israeli intelligence culling of RCA secrets began as early as the 1960s when Israeli agents routinely received data on a major RCA project, the Ballistic Missile Early Warning System (BMEWS).

Good evening Los Angeles! From China with love.

The Julang 2 ICBM, which is also known as JL-2 and CSS-N-4 Giant Wave, fired off the coast of Los Angeles last month is based on Trident II D-5 research and development missile technology ferreted out by Israeli spies working on DINDI in the mid-1980s.

This technology was subsequently transferred to China. The Obama administration clamped a tight lid on the Chinese launch because of its ramifications for U.S.-Israeli relations, WMR is told.

It is not the first time that Israel has provided classified information to U.S. adversaries.

Much of the U.S. intelligence stolen by U.S. Navy Israeli spy Jonathan Pollard in the 1980s was subsequently transferred by Israel to the Soviet Union.

In return Moscow's agreed to allow greater numbers of Soviet Jews to emigrate to Israel.

Wikileaks documents embarrasses US state department

Leaked US Cables Reveal Sensitive Diplomacy
Associated Press Nov. 28, 2010. 10:47 PM EST

Rightardia finds it curious that a military intelligence analyst would have access to state department  cables. The Major worked in intelligence and it was rare that he ever saw an assessment from the US state Department.

This must have been a flaw caused by the 'fog of war" in Iraq in the Defense Data Network (DDN). Apparently, PFC. Bradley Manning downloaded the cables to a USB drives and then burned compressed files to a music CD-RW. Manning erased the music files on the CD-RW to make room for the purloined intelligence data.

FBI: Chinese National Pleads Guilty to Stealing Ford Trade Secrets

November 17, 2010 United States Attorney's Office
Eastern District of Michigan
Contact: (313) 226-9100

Former Ford employee Xiang Dong Yu, aka Mike Yu, 49, of Beijing, China, pleaded guilty today in federal court to two counts of theft of trade secrets, announced Barbara L. McQuade, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan. McQuade was joined in the announcement by Andrew G. Arena, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI.

According to the plea agreement in this case, Yu was a product engineer for the Ford Motor Company from 1997 to 2007 and had access to Ford trade secrets, including Ford design documents.

In December 2006, Yu accepted a job at the China branch of a U.S. company. On the eve of his departure from Ford and before he told Ford of his new job, Yu copied some 4,000 Ford documents onto an external hard drive, including sensitive Ford design documents.

Included in those documents were system design specifications for the engine/transmission mounting subsystem, electrical distribution system, electric power supply, electrical subsystem and generic body module, among others. Ford spent millions of dollars and decades on research, development, and testing to develop and continuously improve the design specifications set forth in these documents.

The majority of the design documents copied by the defendant did not relate to his work at Ford. On December 20, 2006, the defendant traveled to the location of his new employer in Shenzhen, China, taking the Ford trade secrets with him. On January 2, 2007, Yu e-mailed his Ford supervisor from China and informed him that he was leaving Ford’s employ.
