Tampa Bay Times: Winner and loser of the week in FL politics

(Scott) "hailed his "Project Sunburst" program as giving the public easy access to his administration emails. But he basically opened only his fan mail to public view. Sounds more like Project Smokescreen."

Obama kicks off 2012 campaign: The Truth Team

Uploaded by  on Feb 9, 2012

Obama kicks off his 2012 campaign with the Truth Team campaign.

You should be with us in 2012: https://my.barackobama.com/storyofusvid

President Obama wrote a message to us today:

"Five years ago today, a few thousand of us gathered in Springfield, Illinois, to launch an improbable campaign for president.

The task was to build a grassroots movement capable of making the kind of change we believe in.

You've got to see this video about that journey -- it will make you smile.

From the very start this has been an experiment in our political process, testing whether ordinary people really can still come together to change this country.

We proved that it's possible. But we've also learned that entrenched interests adapt and claw back even harder, which means this election will be even more of a challenge.

I can't wait to see what you can do.

Barack"

Why do only Republicans worry about their email and data?

The lead story in he Huffington Post talks about how Mitt Romney and his staff spent $100,000 to hide records. His staff replaced hard drives in their PCs so email and documents could not be recovered. Servers were also erased.

Of course, GW Bush also disabled the new White House system to archive email when he was elected president  Sarah Palin was using public email accounts as governor to hide her tracks and a hacker who broke into one of her public accounts got into trouble, although Palin did not.

Rick Scott's transition team was on the public dole but used private email accounts. When the transition period was over, the accounts were erased by mistake.

Have some Democrats done this? Probably, but Rightardia doesn't recall any current Democrats that are involved in the sort of misbehavior.

Republicans like secrets and to do things behind closed doors. This is why Florida has a Sunshine Law to make government more transparent.

Should governments be able to have some secrets?

Yes, but this should be the exception, not the rule. Email should be open for public review and comment after a reasonable time period.  The government does, in fact, work for the citizens of the US.

Americans have a right to know what their government is doing and how they are spending tax dollars.

Politicians should be prosecuted who do not comply with Sunshine Laws.

Workers Independent News: Feds need a warant to read your email

12/15/2010
This week has been big for privacy in new technologies.

The Third Circuit Court of Appeals on Wednesday denied a request by the federal government to reconsider a decision regarding access to cell phone records that reveal locations. Under the previous ruling the government will need to obtain a probable cause search warrant to receive cell phone records.

That decision reflects a Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals decision on Tuesday which requires the federal government to obtain a search warrant before seizing emails from service providers.

According to the Electronic Frontier Foundation, the court ruled that email users can assume the same privacy expectations with email as they would with phone calls and postal mail.

Where was this court when GW bush bugged the Internet with the help of NSA and an Israeli fibre optic switch corporation?

Only the Rich Create Jobs?

. . . Now, I like Glenn Beck. In fact, I am a sponsoring correspondent on PhillyTalkRadio.com . . .(I HATE all the commercials). Today, however, Glenn started to repeat the typical Talk Radio Spin about the benefit of giving tax breaks to the rich versus the middle and lower classes of tax payers.. .

Indeed, yesterday, on the Rush Limbaugh Show, the fill-in host (I forgot his name) praised a caller when the caller stated (paraphrase) “Why should we give ANY money back to the middle class when it’s only the rich who create jobs…”

At first, I wasn’t able to put my finger on why this argument was so intuitively WRONG. After some thought, however, and after hearing Beck’s monologue this morning, I was able to see the LOGICAL FLAW in this argument . . .

The the world of Talk Radio, however, you CAN’T “agree to disagree” about A SINGLE SUBJECT! YOU HAVE TO SUBSCRIBE TO EVERYTHING OR BE BRANDED A COMMUNIST! . . .

It’s important to understand that, if a false question is asked, the wrong answer can still be logically arrived at. A person will make this mistake and will think they’re being logical and therefore is “right”. . .

Google's Gmail to allow users to call phones from computers

English.news.cn 2010-08-26 03:36:30
SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- Google Inc. on Wednesday said its Gmail webmail service will add a feature that allows users to call any phones directly from their computers.

"Starting today, you can call any phone right from Gmail," Robin Schriebman, a Google software engineer, announced in a post on the company's blog.

"We've been testing this feature internally and have found it to be useful in a lot of situations, ranging from making a quick call to a restaurant, to placing a call when you're in an area with bad reception," Schriebman noted.

Google said it will roll out the new feature to U.S.-based Gmail users over the next few days and is working on making it available more broadly.

Users can call any phone in the U.S. and Canada for free for at least the rest of the year and Google also promised cheap international calls.

Calls to Britain, France, Germany, China, Japan and many other countries will be billed as low as 2 cents per minute, Google said.

Gmail already has a voice and video chat feature that allows users to talk to each other, but requires both people to be at their computers while chatting.

Rightardia did a little research into this and user's must first setup an IMAP account to . If you are using Gmail. this is easy to do.

IMAP accounts use SSL and are more secure than POP3 accounts. You can also review email on the Internet with SSL and decide whether you want to delete it or download it with an email client at a later time. This new service will have a negative effect on Skype. Calls are free in the US.

“US to conduct unprecedented surveillance over Internet”

02 July, 2009, 12:45

US Internet users fear that the US National Security Agency is going to conduct fishnet-type surveillance without any predicate, says investigative journalist and RT contributor Wayne Madsen from Washington D.C.

President Barack Obama has announced that a special person is going to overlook the safety of government and military computer systems to protect them from attack.

But some believe that the 'Cyber Tsar' is just a way to spy upon people online.
