Why do only Republicans worry about their email and data?

The lead story in he Huffington Post talks about how Mitt Romney and his staff spent $100,000 to hide records. His staff replaced hard drives in their PCs so email and documents could not be recovered. Servers were also erased.

Of course, GW Bush also disabled the new White House system to archive email when he was elected president  Sarah Palin was using public email accounts as governor to hide her tracks and a hacker who broke into one of her public accounts got into trouble, although Palin did not.

Rick Scott's transition team was on the public dole but used private email accounts. When the transition period was over, the accounts were erased by mistake.

Have some Democrats done this? Probably, but Rightardia doesn't recall any current Democrats that are involved in the sort of misbehavior.

Republicans like secrets and to do things behind closed doors. This is why Florida has a Sunshine Law to make government more transparent.

Should governments be able to have some secrets?

Yes, but this should be the exception, not the rule. Email should be open for public review and comment after a reasonable time period.  The government does, in fact, work for the citizens of the US.

Americans have a right to know what their government is doing and how they are spending tax dollars.

Politicians should be prosecuted who do not comply with Sunshine Laws.
