Only the Rich Create Jobs?

. . . Now, I like Glenn Beck. In fact, I am a sponsoring correspondent on PhillyTalkRadio.com . . .(I HATE all the commercials). Today, however, Glenn started to repeat the typical Talk Radio Spin about the benefit of giving tax breaks to the rich versus the middle and lower classes of tax payers.. .

Indeed, yesterday, on the Rush Limbaugh Show, the fill-in host (I forgot his name) praised a caller when the caller stated (paraphrase) “Why should we give ANY money back to the middle class when it’s only the rich who create jobs…”

At first, I wasn’t able to put my finger on why this argument was so intuitively WRONG. After some thought, however, and after hearing Beck’s monologue this morning, I was able to see the LOGICAL FLAW in this argument . . .

The the world of Talk Radio, however, you CAN’T “agree to disagree” about A SINGLE SUBJECT! YOU HAVE TO SUBSCRIBE TO EVERYTHING OR BE BRANDED A COMMUNIST! . . .

It’s important to understand that, if a false question is asked, the wrong answer can still be logically arrived at. A person will make this mistake and will think they’re being logical and therefore is “right”. . .



Here, the rhetorical question is asked, “If you give a single man a $600 tax refund, how many people will he be able to employ?” (. . . answer: none)

“But, (to paraphrase) if you give a *wealthy* man a proportional tax refund, and he gets back $600,000, he could spend or invest it and it could end up employing people and help the economy!” (. . .Of course! Putting $600,000 back into the economy would do more good than just $600!).

Sounds good, doesn’t it? Let’s take it a step farther and give only the RICH tax cuts! . . .

YOU SEE, THE QUESTION IS WRONG. The question commits the logical fallacy of “False Choice”.

The choice is NOT (rephrased into a statement) “If you give a man $600, he’d employ no more people, but if you give another man $600,000, he could employ many…”.

The question SHOULD BE: If you give one man a tax refund of $600,000, how does that help the economy any more than giving $600,000 back to 1,000 people?

MY CHALLENGE: ANSWER THAT SPECIFIC QUESTION!

This is the essential question and GOP has really provided no data to support the belief that the Bush tax cuts for the top two per cent of Americans will create jobs.

In fact, if you paid attention when Bush was president, he said little about unemployment. Bush was primarily concerned about worker productivity.

The Bush presidency had any abysmal job creation record. So if the tax cuts for the affluent are so important, whey didn't these tax cuts create jobs when Bush was president or while Obama has been president for the last two years.

The Democrats need to challenge the Republicans to prove the tax cuts for the affluent create jobs.

Rightardia has not been able to find any hard data that this GOP truism that tax cuts for the top two per cent of Americans will create jobs or have any other positive effects for the country. All of the data seems to indicate these tax cuts just added to the deficit.
