Dog People News

by Rightard Whitey

All of the Righatrdia staff are married or have been married. All of the writers have children. We have hauled kids to school, helped them with homework, helped them with science fair projects and drove them around the county for soccer games in the summer.

Raising kids is expensive. It will cost a middle-class U.S. family about $222 K ($286,050 adjusted for inflation) to raise a child born in 2009 to the age 17.

This is according to the report Expenditures on Children by Families 2009, from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

The USDA even has a calculator that considers the region of the US that you live and overall family income. See http://www.cnpp.usda.gov/calculator.htm

From time to time Rightardia runs into dog people. Sometimes we see them at the beach with a baby stroller. We look into stroller expecting to see a human baby, but instead we see a dog. Does a dog person really think any self respecting dog wouldn't want to walk?

We suspect 'dog people" have a lot to do with the rise of dog beaches in Florida, too. These are the beeches where you can walk your dog and can anticipate some "doggy land mines."  Most Florida beaches ban animals.

We sometimes see 'dog people' on home improvement shows. They are easy to spot. It's a single couple who lives in an expensive and beautiful home with two dogs and no kids. They want a $75,000 home improvement.

Admittedly, if you aren't spending more than $10,000 a year to raise a child, you have discretionary income and also a lot of discretionary time. Dog  people are usually conservative and materialistic.

Raising kids make a couple into better people who have more compassion for others. Raising kids is tough and requires a lot of work.

People who have children consider most 'dog people " superficial. As 'dog people' age, they will have no children and grand children to share their lives with. Who will they leave their beautiful home to, the SPCA?

One of our writers was driving by a a large senior citizen complex and he noticed a bumper sticker that said "Ask me about my grand dog." Another stated "My dog is smarter than your child."

Clearly some 'dog people " have distorted "family values."

What is the latest trend for 'dog people.' They now want to be have their cremains buried in pet cemeteries. One woman in a St. Petersburg Times article wanted her ashes split between the pet cemeteries of two of her beloved pets.

Such is the fate of a 'dog person.'

Huffington Post: The Lifetime Costs Of Raising A Child

Log Cabin Republican Dog People

Although the GOp would like to force all pregnant mothers to bear children, the cost to raise a child has gone up 22 per cent. We have noticed a trend of conservative white people who make a decision to never have children.

Many of these conservatives are 'dog people' who replace their lack of children with dogs who they dress up like human children. Rightardia has even seen bunker stickers on the cars of some of these old fossils saying " Ask me about my granddogs!"

Who is the king of the conservative 'dog people?' That would be Rush Limbaugh who is a big supporter of the ASPCA.

These same conservatives, who don't want children, bemoan the fact that America is becoming browner. They prefer the simple life in which they eat out every night and don't get involved in the backbreaking work of raising children.

Everything changes between a husband and a wife when the first child is born, It is a huge sacrifice that couples make to raise a child.

Raising a child is 22 percent more costly than it was in the 1960's. According to a study released recently by the USDA. Adjusted for 2009 dollars, middle-income parents in 1960 spent a total of $182,857 to raise one child through the age of 17. Today, parents spend $222,360.

What accounts for the jump? These days, parents spend more of their family's wealth on their child's health care and education. As a percentage of total child-rearing expenditures, today's middle-income families spend approximately twice as much on health care as they did in 1960. Education and child care, which in 1960 accounted for just 2 percent of total child-rearing expenditures, now accounts for 17 percent.

The government's study, which surveyed 11,800 husband-wife families and 3,350 single-parent households, also found that, on average, low-income households spend more than twice as much of their before-tax income than high-income households do.

Low-income families, who make a before-tax income of less than $56,670, spend 25% of their income on raising a child. High-income households, those who make a before-tax income of more than $98,120, spend just 12% of their income on child-rearing.

To prepare you for the lifetime costs of child-rearing, the Huffington Post  put together a breakdown of the expenses for raising just one child through the age of 17. (Note: we've taken all the we've taken all the below data from the cost projections for a middle-income husband-wife family with two children.)

Zeitgesit: Old man slaps baby and the dog people

I have seen the sort of problem with seniors who have never had children. Most live in a conservative alternative reality and are more focused on their pets than people. I frequently drive past a very large retirement community and know many of the people who live have have had kids. But many of the others have not.

Some of the geezer bumper stickers I have seen include:

Ask me about my grand dogs.

My Yorky is smarter than your honor student.

Jay Leno has talked about these people on the Leno show. One of their eccentricities is to dress their animals in clothing. Recently I walked into a discount store and there was a rack of dog clothing. How ridiculous and superfluous has American society become?

Leno like myself really objects to people dressing animals in clothing. I cannot imagine any animal that would want to be dressed by its owner.
Dog Cabin Republicans

Many years ago I sat next to a dog person. She talked about her dogs all day long and disparaged her husband. Her husband developed a serious medical condition and all she could say was that she hoping he would die. Apparently she held her dogs in higher regard than her husband.

It does not surprise me that someone like Rush Limbaugh is producing public service announcements for the National Humane Society.

Rush Limbaugh, who has thrice divorced and has no children, has a beloved animal named Punkin and is supportive of animal welfare causes. He supports   the Humane Society's anti-dogfighting campaign, which is the focus of one of the recorded spots. In the video, he discusses the conservative connection between religion and animals, reaching out to religious communities to promote the "faithful stewardship of animals."

This is not surprising at all because many conservatives hold their dogs and cats with higher regard than people. Most of the  childless couples I have met are also Republican.

There are some mean people out there that are worse than any Scooby Do villain. Many never had children and that is probably a good thing. They are intolerant of kids.
