Religion is the single theme that runs through all of the GOP candidates

Religion is the one theme that runs through all of the GOP presidential candidates.

Newt Gingrich is a well-known Washington scalawag who converted to Roman Catholicism. Perhaps he thought this would help revive his political career and his reputation. So far he has been successful.

Newt played the Catholic card early after Obama been elected and was invited to Notre Dame to speak. Since criticizing the new president Newt hasn't said much about religion publicly.

Mitt Romney is Mormon and the less said, the better. Although the Mormon creed is evangelical, mainstream evangelicals don't accept the Latter Day Saints religion.

When Romney was in college, he told a fraternity brother than he was a Mormon messiah. Mitt was probably referring to the Mormon White Horse prophesy in which  a man on a white horse would save the United states when it was on the brink of a constitutional crises.

The other Mormon, Jon Huntsman, was the former US ambassador to China. He doesn't wear his religion on his sleeve as the other candidates. Ron Paul also prefers to talk about the issues, not religion.

Paul is often at odds with the other candidates because of his libertarian views on US foreign policy.

And then there are the Christo-fascists or Christo-Zionists. That would be Michele Bachmann, Rick Perry and Rick Santorum. All three wear religion on both their sleeves and have a parochial view of the world and American politics. Fortunately none have any chance for the presidency.

Rick Santorum even recently contacted another Chirsto-Zionist who dropped form the race, Sarah Palin, for her help in reinvigorating his lackluster campaign.

Gingrich is also a Christo-Zionist who suggested the Palestinian people were invented. The Palestinians are descendants of the Philistines of the bible. References to the Philistines go back to 3000 BCE. As a former historian, Newt should have known better.

Keep in mind, too, that GW Bush was a born again Christian. Apparently the Republicans are again trying to pander to Evangelicals and fundamentalists in the forthcoming election.

This suggests the GOP sees the political battle as the religious righteous against the secular heathens.

In many respects, this is the same battle that was fought in Europe that pitted the religious Nazis against the secular Russians.

Intrade: Mittens drops out of the comfort zone

Mitt Romney had been about 60 per cent for months, but his chances dropped as Newt Gingrich reentered the race.

Will Gingrich be the flavor of the month and disappear again or good? Gallup seems to think so.

Republicans show little intensity or enthusiasm for Newt.

IBOPE/Zogby says Ron Paul is the strongest of the third party candidates. Sixteen per cent of those polled would vote for him. Paul's candidacy would sink GOP chances for winning in 2012.

(Bloomberg) -- Republican presidential candidate Jon Huntsman called for curtailing U.S. involvement in international military engagements and cutting military spending. Huntsman said:

We must right-size our current foreign entanglements,” Simply put, we are risking American blood and treasure in parts of the world where our strategy needs to be rethought.
Huntsman suggested the post-Cold War military infrastructure be reduced in favor of counterterrorism and intelligence gathering. Huntsman added:
Simply advocating more ships, more troops and more weapons is not a viable path forward.
Romney, at a Veterans of Foreign Wars post in New Hampshire, criticized Huntsman’s foreign policy position. Romney said:

This is not a time for America to pull back on our commitment to a strong military.
Rightardia applauds Huntman for his enlightened view of defense and foreign policy. Romney appear to be playing to the the traditional military-industrial base of the GOP.

IBOPE/Zogby GOP presidential front runners

After the 7 per cent cut, no other GOP candidate draws above 4 per cent in the Zogby poll . Chris Christie indicates he will not run. Mike Huckabee also dropped out today.  Herman Cain is still an unknown for most Americans, but he performed well in the South Carolina debates.

Joh Huntsman joined the presidential race and he was the former governor of Utah and the US ambassador to China. He speaks fluent Chinese. Huntsman is probably the best candidate the GOP has, but he is perhaps even more moderate than Mitt Romney. Utah,of course, is one of the most conservative states in the US.

We doubt that the Tea party will be happy with either Romney or Huntsman,

Ambassador Huntsman arrives in Beijing: Obama to visit China in mid-November

BEIJING: US President Barack Obama will visit China in mid-November, the new United States ambassador to Beijing said on Saturday, setting a date for a big summit likely to tackle the global economy, Pyongyang and climate change.

Washington's new envoy to Beijing, Jon Huntsman Jr., told reporters Obama "is going to be visiting in the middle of November", but he did not give specific dates.

Until now, neither Beijing nor Washington has publicly given such a firm time for the big visit.

It means the US President is likely to go to Beijing and perhaps other regional capitals after the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation leaders' summit in Singapore on 14-15 November.

Huntsman, speaking at his residence after arriving in the Chinese capital, said relations between the two economic and political powers were improving.

"By the end of the year, we should be in better shape than ever before between the United States and China," he said, in a speech that switched between English and fluent Mandarin Chinese.

But Obama's summit with Chinese President Hu Jintao will also confront thorny differences with Beijing on trade and economic policy, Pyongyang's nuclear issue, and climate change policy, with nations seeking to agree in December on a new international pact to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

China has chided Washington for policy failings exposed by the financial meltdown, has resisted US calls to pressure Pyongyang with tougher sanctions, and said rich countries must lead the way in greenhouse gas emissions cuts.

"There has never been a more important period for the United States and China to get along," said Huntsman. "The world today more than ever before relies too much on a healthy and stable US-China relationship."

With his strong personal ties to China and fluent Mandarin, Huntsman is likely to be a high-profile envoy.

He was the Republican governor of Utah before accepting the ambassadorship, and also worked as a US trade official.

Huntsman's family founded chemical company Huntsman Corp, which has operations in China, including a factory in Shanghai. One of his seven children was adopted from China.
