What is a Liger?

16 March, 2008, 14:30 Is it a tiger? Is it a lion? No, it's a cross between the two. Just don’t ask how its parents got together. Be careful because she has 5 inch claws.

There is also some misinformation about ligers. They do not exist in the wild. One article stated:

Ligers are the most ferocious animals in Africa, they are superior hunters, once a pack of Ligers has a prey picked out there is virtually no escape.

Ligers roam Africa in packs of several dozen, one dominant male, 10 - 12 females and the offspring. They are very territorial and if two packs encounter each other the results are usually quite messy.

Liger cubs can start to hunt prey on their own as early as one year old, being able to bring down a full grown antelope all on their own.

If you encounter a Liger the best way to survive the encounter is to bark like a dog. Ligers seem to detest the noise and more often than not they retreat.

The article was accompanied with a photo shoped version of a gay liger which is a mythical animal. No liger looks like this fanciful creature. My apologies to both ligers and gays for this picture.
