Have American fighter aircraft lost their edge?

Uploaded by  on Jan 29, 2010

The United States Department of Defense, the United States Air Force (USAF), the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) and the US RAND Corporation Research and Development, US and Australia Pacific Vision data conducted a what Rightardia believes was a simulated notional command post exercise (CPX).

These exercises are often simulated by main frame computers that are programmed and directed by competing red and blue teams

The CPX PACAF Pacific Vision was conducted on Sept 25, 2008 revealed that United States air superiority was unlikely.

The Red Team had one hundred Su-27SM, four Su-30 and two Su-35. The Blue Team had one hundred F-35, one hundred eighty seven F-22 and four hundred F/A-18E/F.

The CPX showed although the blue team had a higher number of aircraft, hundreds of Blue Forces aircraft were lost in the first 20 minutes of air play to the Red Forces. On the other hand only 12 aircraft were lost by the Red Team.

The simulation results may have effected the production of the F-22 which was canceled. The F-35 project has also lost funds all since 2008.

Trials in Australia , which Rightardia suggests were simulated on computers, between 5th generation F-35 on the one hand and the current 4th generation Sukhoi SU-35, was a catastrophe for Blue forces. The F-35 was easy to shoot down according to some observers.

Australia, Canada and Japan are about to pull out from ab F-35 buy because "it can't turn, can't climb and can't run."

According to a recent study by the Rand corporation:

The F-35 would be consistently defeated by the Russian-made
SU-35 fighter aircraft. The defeat calculated by the scenario also
showed the loss of the F-35's supporting airborne-early warning and
air-to-air refueling aircraft.

The Russian-made T-50, PAK-FA low-observable fighter now in development is expected to be much more lethal than the SU-35 in air-to-air combat against the U.S. made F-35.

The SU-35 and T-50 made appearances this year at the Russian aerospace industry air show known as MAKS2011. Both aircraft will include sensors and networking which can minimise the effects of the limited low-observable qualities of the F-35. They will also perform better and carry more air-to-air weapons than an F-35.

Independent air combat analysts from Air Power Australia have also stated that the F-35 is not capable of facing high end threats; what will be delivered (if it ever arrives) will be obsolete; and that the F-35 is not affordable or sustainable."

Many American may be shocked by this report, but the results are based on a computer simulation that has many assumptions made about Russian aircraft performance and their pilot's capabilities. Rightardia suspects the PACAF CPXs have been run at least two more times since the original CPX in 2008.

Of interest, the Russian Mig-15 was superior to the fighter jet aircraft the US had in the beginning of the Korean War. The Mig-21 was also the best fighter aircraft in the Vietnam War. However, the US had the best pilots which kept the US Air Force competitive.

Today the Russian pilots are much better and probably equivalent to the US pilots in many respects. We have no idea on Chinese pilot proficiency. We hope we never find out, too.

The F-22 & F-35 proven USELESS compared to latest SUKHOI T-50 PAK FA or existing SU-35....

Haaretz: Israel approves purchase of 20 Lockheed Martin F-35 fighter planes

Defense Minister Ehud Barak's approval of the purchase comes after more than two years of tough negotiations involving the Israeli and U.S. defense establishments, and Lockheed Martin.

Defense Minister Ehud Barak approved the purchase of 20 F-35 fighter planes for the Israel Air Force on Sunday.

The planes, manufactured by the American company Lockheed Martin, are expected to arrive in Israel around the year 2015.

Barak's approval of the purchase came after more than two years of tough talks between the Israeli defense establishment, the U.S. Pentagon, and Lockheed Martin.

The F-35 is the most advanced US fighter plane and it has stealth features. The announced sale may stimulate sales of the Russian T-50 fifth generation fighters to Arab air Forces.  The T-50 has been compared to the earlier F-22 fighter that the US has unfunded.

F-35 Lightning II, also known as the Joint Strike Fighter, manufactured by Lockheed Martin Corp.

The talks were complicated by the IAF's demand to install Israeli systems on the aircraft and the refusal of the Americans to allow those changes.

In the end, the IAF's desire to be the first air force in the Middle East to use the F-35 overcame its demand for the Israeli systems and it agreed to purchase 20 F-35s without the Israeli systems installed.

The Lockheed Martin F-35 is a fifth-generation, single-seat, single-engine, stealth-capable military strike fighter, which can evade radar and anti-aircraft missile systems.

Haaretz: Amir Oren Amir Oren Netanyahu's petty politics is undermining Israel's needs

by  Amir Oren Published 00:57 26.07.10
Israel Navy chief Rear Admiral Eliezer Marom. One man who uses his acquaintance with Marom as proof of his concern for Israel's security is three-star admiral and Congressman Joe Sestak, the Democratic candidate for senator from Pennsylvania.

A conservative alliance of Jewish Republicans and messianic Christians attacked Sestak as as a hater of Israel. In response, he fondly recalled his six visits to Israel when he was in the navy. In 2003, ahead of the war in Iraq, he protected Israel from Iraqi missiles as a commander of a naval task force.

In Congress he consistently votes for bills to assist Israel and thwart the Iranian nuclear program. Last year he discussed protection from missiles with senior officials in the Defense Ministry. And to top it all off, during Hanukkah 2007, Sestak was a guest at the home of the Israeli ambassador in Washington for a talk with Marom.

About five years ago, Sestak was ousted from his post as a deputy chief of naval operations and pushed into retirement and politics. The man who removed Sestak, in his first week as Chief of Naval Operations, was Admiral Michael Mullen, current chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and a friend of Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Ashkenazi.

The Democratic Party considers Sestak a member of the Bill and Hillary Clinton faction; that does not necessarily bring him closer to President Barack Obama.

That is how it happened that in Pennsylvania and other swing states, the attitude of Obama and the Democrats to Israel has become a contentious issue in the election campaign. This is a game all sides know very well how to play. Obama hid his sharp teeth behind a forced smile in his meetings with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

This could be the right time to get some security achievements out of Obama, such as a discount on the F-35 fighter aircraft (reducing the surcharge the Pentagon unloads on the manufacturer's price ) and installing Israeli systems in it . . .  (as long as there are no Israeli) political concessions.

The direct talks, to which Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas will agree, do not necessarily mean only bilateral, without American presence in or near the room. And the essence will not change . . .

Netanyahu's petty politics undermine the serious statesmanship that Israel is in dire need of.

Rightardia comment:
If the US were to sell the F-35 to Israel, it would probably use the stealth aircraft to attack Iran. It is inconceivable that the US would do this without enraging the Russians who have refused to sell its S-300 air defense system to Iran.

We do not believe Netanyahu will make any political concessions to Washington. We look forward to the day Bibi is kicked out of office. We don't believe peace is possible in the middle east until then.
