LTSaloon: TeaBagger Congressman

There is a lot of truth to this. for many people it is easier "to go with the flow" rather than "make waves" about issues that really need to be changed.

This is a fundamental difference between the outlooks of the Republicans and Democrats.

Republicans think they own America and want to maintain the status quo in which the country is run by corporate bosses.

This is not what the Founders had in mind at all.

RDT: Spin, baby, spin!

Rightradia has talked about post conventional thought of Lawrenece Kohlberg in several articles.  Kohlberg believed post conventional or principled thought was not really possible until a person was in their thirties.

According to Charles Hampden-Turner post conventional and liberal thought are synonymous. Today most Democrats prefer to use the term 'progressive' rather than 'liberal.'

Accordingly Jared Loughner could not be a lefty. We think the young man may be psychotic and probably belongs in an asylum. Classifying him as left or right winger is pointless.

We had to laugh when conservative media fell all over itself after the Giffords' shooting. Conservative media knew exactly what they were doing with the veiled threats and the gun metaphors. And it backfired into their faces.

It's that same old Republican Song and Dance

This is and ad from Jerry Brown, the Democratic candidate for governor for California. You could substitute Rick Scott in Florida, another billionaire,  for Queen Meg Whitman and his political ad would be almost identical.

But in what has to be the most brilliant, substantive and subversive political ad of the season, Jerry Brown pulls a Jon Stewart side by side video comparison showing her aping California’s present failed celebrity governor’s major talking points, word for word, for an entire minute.

The GOP is promising jobs they cannot deliver and will curtail unemployment and food stamp extensions. The Senate majority leader, Mitch McConnell, even said it will take another three years for unemployment to subside.

A Day in the Life of Joe the Republican

Joe gets up at 6 a.m. and fills his coffeepot with water to prepare his morning coffee. The water is clean and good because some tree-hugging liberal fought for minimum water-quality standards.

With his first swallow of water, he takes his daily medication. His medications are safe to take because some stupid commie liberal fought to ensure their safety and that they work as advertised.

All but $10 of his medications are paid for by his employer's medical plan because some liberal union workers fought their employers for paid medical insurance - now Joe gets it too.

He prepares his morning breakfast, bacon and eggs. Joe's bacon is safe to eat because some girly-man liberal fought for laws to regulate the meat packing industry.

In the morning shower, Joe reaches for his shampoo. His bottle is properly labeled with each ingredient and its amount in the total contents because some crybaby liberal fought for his right to know what he was putting on his body and how much it contained.

Joe dresses, walks outside and takes a deep breath. The air he breathes is clean because some environmentalist wacko liberal fought for the laws to stop industries from polluting our air.

He walks on the government-provided sidewalk to subway station for his government-subsidized ride to work. It saves him considerable money in parking and transportation fees because some limousine liberal fought for affordable public transportation, which gives everyone the opportunity to work.

Joe begins his work day. He has a good job with excellent pay, medical benefits, retirement, paid holidays and vacation because some lazy liberal union members fought and died for these working standards. Joe's employer pays these standards because Joe's employer doesn't want his employees to call the union.

If Joe is hurt on the job or becomes unemployed, he'll get a worker compensation or unemployment check because some stupid liberal didn't think he should lose his home because of his temporary misfortune.

It is noontime and Joe needs to make a bank deposit so he can pay some bills. Joe's deposit is federally insured by the FSLIC because some godless liberal wanted to protect Joe's money from unscrupulous bankers who ruined the banking system before the Great Depression.

Joe has to pay his Fannie Mae-underwritten mortgage and his below-market federal student loan because some elitist liberal decided that Joe and the government would be better off if he was educated and earned more money over his lifetime.

Joe also forgets that his in addition to his federally subsidized student loans, he attended a state funded university.

Joe is home from work. He plans to visit his father this evening at his farm home in the country. He gets in his car for the drive. His car is among the safest in the world because some America-hating liberal fought for car safety standards to go along with the tax-payer funded roads.

He arrives at his boyhood home. His was the third generation to live in the house financed by Farmers' Home Administration because bankers didn't want to make rural loans.

The house didn't have electricity until some big-government liberal stuck his nose where it didn't belong and demanded rural electrification.

He is happy to see his father, who is now retired. His father lives on Social Security and a union pension because some wine-drinking, cheese-eating liberal made sure he could take care of himself so Joe wouldn't have to. His father uses his Medicare benefits to stay healthy.

Joe gets back in his car for the ride home, and turns on a radio talk show. The radio host keeps saying that liberals are bad and conservatives are good. He doesn't mention that the beloved Republicans have fought against every protection and benefit Joe enjoys throughout his day.

Joe agrees: "We don't need those big-government liberals ruining our lives! After all, I'm a self-made man who believes everyone should take care of themselves, just like I have as he walks to a Tea Party demonstration.."

Little Green Footballs' conservative blogger breaks with The Right

The right wing has gone off the rails, into the bushes, and off the cliff.
Charles Johnson of Little Green Footballs, a conservative-leaning political blog, officially announced his break with the right in a post on Monday evening. Johnson is co-founder of Pajamas Media, and Little Green Footballs has been named one of the top 100 most popular blogs.

Succinctly titled "Why I Parted Ways With The Right," Johnson's post argues against the fanaticism of politicians like Michele Bachmann, Sarah Palin, Pat Buchanan as well as the conservative blogosphere ("Hatred for President Obama that goes far beyond simply criticizing his policies, into racism, hate speech, and bizarre conspiracy theories (see: witch doctor pictures, tea parties, Birthers, Michelle Malkin, Fox News, World Net Daily, Newsmax, and every other right wing source)").
He also cites the "anti-Islamic bigotry that goes far beyond simply criticizing radical Islam, into support for fascism, violence, and genocide." He concludes:

The American right wing has gone off the rails, into the bushes, and off the cliff.

I won't be going over the cliff with them.

Rightardia editorial: Do you really want more of this?

by Middle Class Warrior

First and foremost, the right wants the presidency. If it can't have that, it wants the Congress. The attacks on President Obama and Nancy Pelosi have not been particularly effective. At this time it does not appear the GOP is likely to to take the House in 2010 according to Intrade:

If the GOP were to return to power in 2012 it would ignore labor and environmental laws by putting cronies in the Department of the Labor and the Department of Interior. Labor law would be ignored or weakened. Environmental laws would be ignored so Big Oil so Big Whatever could exploit more natural resources. The GOP would also politicize the Department of Justice as it did during the last Bush term.

The GOP also likes to start a war because it can divert the national treasure from the domestic economy to defense and most defense corporations are operated by card carrying conservatives. This would also require less transparency in government and more secrecy.

You would expect to see another Middle Eastern War start and the relationship with Russia cool. It is indeed peculiar that the Republicans prefer to deal with the People's Republic of China which has a communist government, but not the Russians who have abandoned communism.

It is probable the next Republican government will start sabre rattling with Iran and perhaps Venezuela. Sooner or later the next Republican president will want the US to go to war with a country in the Middle East or in Central and South America.

Republicans will try to reinstate their Trojan Horse, Supply Side economics, that rewards the rich and damages the Middle Class. You will hear vague promises about tax cuts but when the dust clears those tax cuts will be for the 'have mores.' As George W. Bush stated right after his election in 2001: “This is an impressive crowd: the Have's and Have-more's. Some people call you the elites. I call you my base.”

While Democrats wish to function in a more democratic way in which all of the citizenry benefits from the fruits of society, Republicans prefer an oligarchy modeled after a corporation that focuses on the needs of the 'have mores.'

Accordingly corporate profits will rise but employment will remain stagnant as the right wing cracks the whip on the labor force to increase productivity. This in one of the reasons the Bush administration created 25 per cent of the jobs created during the Clinton administration. Employment is not a big priority for Republicans. Productivity is more important.

The Veterans Administration will also decline after the Obama administration has reformed it and got caught up on 1 million backlogged claims leftover from the Bush administration.

The Republican Party will continue the deficit economics of Ronald Reagan and will never balance the budget. The deficit will increase because Republicans are not able to govern effectively.

Rightardia has seen these trends with GOP presidents since Richard Nixon was elected. We are hoping that the Republicans run someone like Sarah Palin in 2012 or another Southern Democrat like Mike Huckabee. We will be waiting for to assure that Obama is reelected in 2012 and the House and Senate remain Democratic in 2010.

Slumlord millionaire running for Florida statehouse

Fabian Calvo, slum lord and GOP state house candidate

CLEARWATER — While campaigning for the state House of Representatives, property owner and radio host Fabian Calvo has touted his skills in opearating a $20 million real estate company that spans the state.

Fabian Calvo claims to be a common-sense conservative Republican running for the Florida State House of Representatives, District 45. Fabian is running for State Representative to stop the fraud, waste and abuse of taxpayer money in Tallahassee and to reform state government.

"I am a successful small-businessman who believes state government should be run like a business," Calvo wrote in campaign literature. "This is the type of leadership that is needed in Tallahassee, leadership from the small business world, people that have created jobs, paid payrolls, balanced budgets."

Renters and former property managers of Calvo say that's precisely his problem. He's a slumlord, they say, alleging he fails to pay his debts and lets property degrade into disrepair. Two ex-employees are taking him to court.

Calvo, whose company Calvo Management International owns 500 apartments and houses nearly 1,000 tenants across six counties, said the criticism is a baseless attempt at slander or blackmail.

Cindy Salo was hired by Calvo as the manager of Crystal Palm Apartments in Crystal River last year. She served as the on-site operator of the 40-unit complex, signing leases, collecting rent and coordinating repairs.

But the apartments, she said, were falling apart. Doors and walls rotted. Stoves, fans and refrigerators broke. Central heat and air-conditioning stopped working for months.

Salo said attempts at repair were stifled by Calvo, who delayed paying contractors until months after their work. Others weren't paid at all. One cleaner who was never paid threatened to protest outside the complex.

"He's late with all the vendors and he's late with the people who work for him," Salo said. "He can't pay, but he wants everyone to do the work for him."
Residents at Crystal Palm say the problems have lasted for years.

The sink in Rose Mastin's two-bedroom unit leaked for months, flooding her bathroom. A glass window fell on Cortney Carmichael's 3-year-old daughter. Bad wiring ruined their electronics. The locks on their front doors fell out.
Every month, they pleaded for help.

"Fabian's problem is he won't release the money," Mastin said. "He knows about all these problems."
