HYSTERICAL RAISINS: The fresh Reince of the RNC

 Michael Steele and Reince Priebus

Micheal Steele was offered a lucrative job to drop out of the RNC race.  John Boehner worked to get longtime operative Maria Cino elected.

Cino is a veteran  who held senior offices both at the RNC and the National Republican Congressional Committee.

It is not surprising Boehner wanted a woman to head the RNC. This is good politics.

The GOP has been making inroads with female voters with Saah Palin, and also ran numerous female candidtes in the last election.

This should be a wake up call for Democrats.

Pavlovian Obeisance: RNC's USS Minnow gets beached

The skipper, Michael Steele, beached the USS Minnow right before the mid-term elections.  That's bad timing for the GOP.

The many hats of Michael Steele

Michael Steele introduced a new fashion accessory at today’s Republican National Committee meeting in Kansas City. Like almost everyone in the audience, the RNC Chairman donned a bright-red “Fire Pelosi” cap. It was something of a theme at the event. And a “Fire Nancy Pelosi” bus tour will begin this fall.

What is it with Michael Phathead Steele and hats? From POLITICO (4/30/09):

Republican National Chairman Michael Steele said Thursday that despite Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter’s recent departure, the GOP remains a party of many hats because “that’s how we roll.”

“I look at it this way,” Steele explained to the hosts of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” “The four of us are, let’s say for the sake of this example, all wearing a hat that says ‘GOP.’ All right?”

O course, the GOP has the oligarch's hat, the racism hat, the narrow minded hat, the evangleical hat and the  reactionary hat.

Republicans are still in denial about 2008 elections

The Republicans still seem to be unable to believe they are out of power. In 2008 a Democratic president was elected as well as a Democratic House and Senate. Obama won the election by 10,000 votes and a 2:1 electoral advantage. Sixty Democrats were seated in the Senate and nearly 60 per cent of the House members were Democratic.

Where Rightardia is located in Central Florida along the I4 corridor, the voters turned out in droves for Obama. Obama handily won the state of Florida.

Republicans attributed the loss to Acorn because they were registering people to vote. Of course, the Republican approach has been to make it harder to vote with more ID checks and other legal requirements. Why? Because the GOP knows a large voter turnout usually spells doom for them.

Today a women walked into our office today and asked what is the world coming to with the Obama health care plan and all of these other going on. A simple answer would be 'change.'

The public wanted change after eight years of ineffective Republicans rule. During the financial meltdown, 45 per cent of the world's wealth was lost. Years of GOP deregulation led to the financial debacle. Bush doubled the national debt during his two terms. After years of Republican denials about the Iraq War, the Americans public now knows there weren't any WMDs.

The Costofwar.com estimates the Iraq War has already cost the US taxpayer $980 billion. By the the time the US forces withdraw this year, the cost will be over $1 trillion and the life cycle costs for VA Care and veterans benefits will add billions of dollars in cost for the Iraq and Afghan wars.

The GOP approach to the Obama administration is to profess anger and suggest health care needs to be repealed which is unrealistic. If Obama had to veto a health care appeal bill, which is an unlikely event, the GOP would need 67 votes in the Senate to overcome his veto.

Another Top Official Resigns from RNC

Tuesday, 06 Apr 2010 02:44 PM

WASHINGTON – A New Hampshire activist, Sean Mahoney, has resigned from the Republican National Committee. This may put even more pressure on chairman Michael Steele to resign.

Mahoney, a former businessman, was elected to the RNC in 2007. He said the party had been corrupted by the "out-of-touch, free-spending culture of Washington."

On Monday, Steele's top aide and an outside fund has also severed ties with the RNC. A stafer for the RNC's Young Eagles was also fired for authorizing an expense account charges at a lesbian voyeur club. This event has been referred to as Bondage-gate.

Huffington Post: RNC Chief Of Staff resigns In wake Of 'Bondage-Gate'

First Posted: 04- 5-10 05:49 PM | Updated: 04- 5-10 06:13 PM
Republican National Committee Chief Of Staff Ken McKay has resigned in the wake of a Bondage-gate scandal that has rocked the RNC.

RNC spokesman Doug Heye told Politico that the staff shift was "about ensuring that we have the tight financial controls in place and to ensure that every nickel we spend is done with the goal of winning in November."

Deputy Chief of Staff Mike Leavitt is expected to replace McKay.

McKay had been drafted into damage control at the RNC in the wake of reports that the committee spent thousands of dollars at a bondage-themed nightclub in Los Angeles. The RNC declined to immediately say if McKay was forced out he is another casualty of the episode.

Bondage-gate led to a spate of embarrassing news stories and sewed doubt among top RNC donors and fund raisers. It also put committee chairman Michael Steele on defense. Earlier today the top RNC fund raiser, Sam Fox, also resigned.

The so-called "Bondage-gate" scandal also cost another staffer, the head of the RNC's Young Eagles program, her job last week.

The RNC melodrama continues.  This may be even a better series than the Wasilla Hilbillies.

The Christian Science Monitor : GOP fires Allison Meyers over strip-club scandal

By Dave Cook, Staff writer
March 30, 2010 Washington

Allison Meyers, the director of the Young Eagles, a Republican program aimed at wooing donors under 45 years old to the GOP cause, was fired as a result of the strip-club scandal that has embroiled the party this week, according to media reports. The scandal could hurt the GOP in three ways, in particular.

The Republican National Committee reimbursed about $2,000 in expenses rung up by the Young Eagles at a Hollywood nightclub featuring topless dancers and bondage outfits. Ms. Meyers allegedly approved the expense.

POLITICO.com: Michael Steele was at a bondage-themed nightclub?

The Republican National Committee is pushing back hard Monday on a story in The Daily Caller. The RNC denies that Chairman Michael Steele was “never” at a bondage-themed nightclub in West Hollywood, Calif., as the web site suggests.

The Daily Caller story claims that Steele wanted to buy a private jet with RNC funds.  the Daily Caller stated that “Steele travels in style,” citing, among other things, $1,946.25 “spent at Voyeur West Hollywood, a bondage-themed nightclub featuring topless women dancers imitating lesbian sex.”

While Steele has not purchased a plane, he continues to charter them. According to federal disclosure records, the RNC spent $17,514 on private aircraft in the month of February alone as well as $12,691 on limousines during the same period. There are no readily identifiable private plane expenses for Democratic National Committee chairman Tim Kaine in the DNC’s last three months of filings.

POLITICO confirmed the RNC expense by examining the committee’s February Federal Election Commission filing. The information provided on $1,946 in RNC funds spent Feb. 4 matches the nightclub’s Santa Monica address. It is not clear who actually made the expenditure at the club.

Daily Caller Founder Tucker Carlson defended the story to POLITICO and said his outlet intends to provide more details on the reporting of the story. He also questioned the accuracy of the RNC’s response. For now, the only official response offered by the Daily Caller comes in a short post about the RNC’s comment.

“Jonathan Strong, who broke the story about the RNC’s expenditures at a Hollywood strip club, asked about the strip club expense, and was rebuffed by an RNC spokesperson who said that the organization doesn’t comment on specific expenditures,” the post reads.

Steele himself declined numerous interview requests, though his defenders point out that luxurious accommodations are sometimes necessary to attract big-time donors, especially since Republicans remain in the minority in Washington.

Politico.com: Republicans continue to support violence and vandalism

By ANDY BARR | 3/26/10 6:36 PM EDT

The Republican National Committee has rejected a proposal from its Democratic counterpart to sign a joint “civility” statement, POLITICO has learned.

Various members of the DNC such as Chairman Tim Kaine, Executive Director Jen O’Malley Dillon and Communications Director Brad Woodhouse contacted their respective RNC counterparts this week.

The DNC members hoped to get RNC Chairman Michael Steele to co-sign a document with Kaine that, in part, called for “elected officials of both parties to set an example of the civility we want to see in our citizenry.”

“We also call on all Americans to respect differences of opinion, to refrain from inappropriate forms of intimidation, to reject violence and vandalism, and to scale back rhetoric that might reasonably be misinterpreted by those prone to such behavior,” read the proposed joint statement.

The initiative came at the end of a week which saw acts of vandalism and threats of violence directed at members of Congress from both parties, but mostly aimed at Democrats who voted “yes” on the health care bill.

Republicans see the statement as an attempt to force them to either reject the statement — allowing Democrats to say the RNC finds the incidents acceptable — or to sign on to something that the DNC would later wield against them.

The proposed statement was faxed and hand-delivered to the RNC at midmorning Friday. POLITICO learned Friday afternoon that the RNC would not sign the DNC statement.

RNC Communications Director Doug Heye told POLITICO that Steele chose not to agree to the statement because “we don’t need to do anything on their schedule or on their timetable.”

Rightardia comment
: The Republicans continue to act like spoiled children who throw tantrums because of the health care defeat.

Democrats have the GOP paln for the 2010 elections

The RNC slides are very revealing and indicate what national and state offices the GOP will contest. It reveals the GOP political strategy for 2010. What an intelligence bonanza!

Here is Rightaridia's favorite slide:

The Direct Marketeers are the Tea Baggers, the Ditto Heads, Evangelicals and other useful idiots. These are undereducated folks like Sarah Palin. Many are still fighting the Civil War and most of them live in the South and the West.

After seeing the slides and the stupid way the RNC compromised the presentation, I am inclined to think Republicans aren't particularly bright. Here is the ploitico link to the complete RNC presentation: http://www.politico.com/static/PPM136_100303_rnc_finance_leadership.html

Politico Exclusive: RNC document mocks donors, plays on 'fear'

The Republican National Committee plans to raise money this election cycle through an aggressive campaign capitalizing on “fear” of President Barack Obama and a promise to “save the country from trending toward socialism.”

The strategy was detailed in a confidential party fundraising presentation, obtained by POLITICO, which also outlines how “ego-driven” wealthy donors can be tapped with offers of access and “tchochkes.”

The presentation was delivered by RNC Finance Director Rob Bickhart to top donors and fundraisers at a party retreat in Boca Grande, Florida on February 18, a source at the gathering said.

In neat PowerPoint pages, it lifts the curtain on the often-cynical terms of political marketing, displaying an air of disdain for the party’s donors that is usually confined to the barroom conversations of political operatives.

Politico must be gettting thousands of hits on this because Rightardia was unable to open the poltico web page.

Update: Rightardia finally recovered the web page form Politico. Here is some more ov the story:

The presentation explains the Republican fundraising in simple terms.

"What can you sell when you do not have the White House, the House, or the Senate...?" it asks.

The answer: "Save the country from trending toward Socialism!”

Manipulating donors with crude caricatures and playing on their fears is hardly unique to Republicans or to the RNC – Democrats raised millions off George W. Bush in similar terms – but rarely is it practiced in such cartoonish terms.

 one of the RNC  slides

One page, headed “The Evil Empire,” pictures Obama as the Joker from Batman, while House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leaders Harry Reid are depicted as Cruella DeVille and Scooby Doo, respectively.

USA Today: Steele lashes out that critics should 'get a life'

RNC chairman lashes out at critics: "Fire me...or get out of the way."

Michael Steele makes perfect sense. Unfortunately, many Republicans are missing the bigger picture.

Politico: RNC insurance had been covering abortions since 1991

Updated: 11/13/09 1:02 PM EST

The Republican National Committee will no longer offer employees an insurance plan that covers abortion after POLITICO reported Thursday that the anti-abortion RNC's policy has covered the procedure since 1991.

"Money from our loyal donors should not be used for this purpose," Chairman Michael Steele said in a statement. "I don't know why this policy existed in the past, but it will not exist under my administration. Consider this issue settled."

Steele has told the committee's director of administration to opt out of coverage for elective abortion in the policy it uses from Cigna.

Federal Election Commission Records show the RNC purchases its insurance from Cigna, and two sales agents for the company said that the RNC’s policy covers elective abortion.

As of Thursday, the RNC’s plan covers elective abortion – a procedure the party’s own platform calls “a fundamental assault on innocent human life.”

Informed of the coverage, RNC spokeswoman Gail Gitcho told POLITICO earlier Thursday that the policy pre-dates the tenure of current RNC Chairman Michael Steele.

Latest GOP fabrication: America has "the best health care in the world"

The latest Republican lie is that the US has "the best health care in the world." Actually the French have the best health care in the world according to someone who should know: The World Health Organization. The US comes in dead last in the 23 industrial nations of the world. In the English speaking world, the UK comes in 18th, Canada 30th and the US --37th.

"You know the bottom line is that we have the best health care system in the world, there's no doubt about that," as RNC Chairman Michael Steele lied though his teeth two weeks after an OMI memo was finalized. "But this is a health care system that needs reform, and the reform that we've been trying to focus on is the cost side of this."

According to an OMI survey the GOP commissioned, Republicans are at a significant disadvantage in the health care debate. For starters, 48 percent of the public said they trusted Democrats to "fix the health care problem in America." Only 29 percent said the same for Republicans.

Meanwhile, 58 percent of respondents said that they favored "creating a government run health insurance agency that will compete with private insurance companies," while only 35 percent were opposed.

But the survey concluded that the appetite for government intervention only extends so far. And here is where the GOP has sought to make its greatest inroads.

57 per cent of respondents favored "requiring everyone to buy health insurance either through your employer or with government help." More people (63 percent) opposed controlling costs by having the government set prices "for services and deciding what treatments it will and will not cover."
