Does Mitt Romney have Gypsy heritage?

The Romani are an ethnic group living mostly in Europe, who have origins on the Indian Subcontinent. Romani are widely known in the English-speaking world as Gypsies or Gipsies.


They are known collectively in the Romani language as Romane or Rromane. They are also known as Romany, Romanies, Romanis, Roma or Roms.


Rightardia was watching American Gypsy on TV tonight and the American Gypsies in the series called themselves Romany which is pronounced "Romney."

A search for "romney gypsy" turns up many references to Romney Gypsies,


Romney is also a word for one the dialects spoken by Gypsies,


Romani are widely dispersed, with their large population in Europe such as the Roma of Central and Eastern Europe and Anatolia, followed by the Kale of Iberia and Southern France.


Adolf Hitler brutally exterminated Gypsies in Germany and Eastern Europe during the World War 2 era.

The Americas are also home to large numbers of Romani. There are an estimated one million Romany in the United States. .


A famous Mormon is the stripper Gypsy Rose Lee who died in the 1970s.


However, answerBag claims Mittens doe not have Gypsy heritage:

Mitt Romney does not have Gypsy heritage. His Mormon great-grandfather fled the U.S. for Mexico because of legal consequences resulting from polygamy. Romney's grandfather and father were both born and raised in Mexico before the family returned to the U.S., where Romney was born.
