UNESCO admits Palestine as its newest member.

New York— UNESCO voted Monday to admit Palestine into the organization as its newest member, and the United States retaliated by cutting off funding for the agency.

The State Department on Monday announced that the United States has stopped funding the U.N. Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization because of the vote. The US will not make a planned $60 million payment to the agency due this month.

Rightardia suspects Palestine will seek observer status in the UN General assembly to bypass a US veto on the Security Council. This would give Palestine a quasi-state status like the Vatican.

Israel and the US insist in peace accords that have not materialized since Israel was founded 60 years ago.

Rightardia has stated that any US peace initiative while Bibi Natenyahu is Israeli's PM is a fools' errand. Israel is fond of the US foreign and military aid that a peace agreement could limit.

Ultimately the Israel-Palestine conflict will be decided at the end of gun barrel.

The differences between moderates and independents

Moderates are people that find themselves with sympathies the middle of the political spectrum. Moderates can be Democrats, Republicans, members of some other political party, or members of no political party.

Moderate political views often reflect compromises between the Republicans and Democrats. There is no moderate political party and one cannot register to vote as a moderate.

Of course, , most political movements are on the left or right. Few are moderate.

Independents are individuals that are not members of any political party. Independents' political beliefs can be anywhere on the political spectrum, from far-left liberal to far-right conservative.

On can register to vote as an independent, but not cast votes in the Democratic or Republican primary. Independents can only vote in general elections in most states.

Some say independents usually follow their hearts. Of interest the Occupy Movement is primarily independent with 70 per cent of the people in the movement having little sympathy for either political party in the US.

John Zogby noted that Obama should not count on their vote in the next election.

This is why the GOP needs to take care with the Occupy Movement. The GOP may alienate other independents if their shrill "in-the box" view on this movement.

One of the problems in broadcasting and print media is that there aren't many independent or moderate outlets. The now defunct Politics Daily had a wonderful independent streak that we enjoyed. Mediate is another web site that contains diverse views. Keith Olbermann hates this web site.
Right wing stealth site?

Then there are blogs like Pajama Pundit who claim to be an independent. In today's' edition, the Pajama Pundit leads off with his support for Eric Cantor's position on Defense of the Marriage Act (DOMA) and Don't Ask, Don't Tell (DADT). He also supports Cantor's position on disaster releif. Cantor says:

disaster relief be offset with spending cuts elsewhere.

Most progressives know that the Pajama Pundit is supporting the position of social conservatives on DOMA and DADT. Most liberals and libertarians know that marriage is regulated by the states and that DOMA is likely unconstitutional.

Likewise, do we really want Congress dithering over funding when a national emergency occurs? Get the cob webs out of your ears, PP!

Rightardia did find one video that the Pajama Pundit had Robert Gibbs on the Morning Joe. Otherwise almost every other article was about the GOP candidates for president and some other fluff on the Statute of Liberty and a cartoon.

Rightardia thinks the pajama Pundit is a center-right site that harbors few independent views. This site would appeal to most establishment Republicans, but few Democrats or real independents like those in the Occupy  Movement.

The Pajama Pundits home page doesn't even mention the Occupy Movement. Rightardia concludes the this site is neither independent nor moderate. It appears to be a stealth Republican web site that is promoting conservative values under the guise of moderation.

Al Jazeera: The Koch Brothers - People & Power

"Charles and David Koch are each worth about $25bn, which makes them the fourth richest Americans. When you combine their fortunes, they are the third wealthiest people in the world."

Charles Koch recently told participants to dig deep into their pockets to defeat Obama at a conference at Vail. CO.

"This is the mother of all wars we've got in the next 18 months," he says, "for the life or death of this country."

By wars, the Koch brothers are referring to class warfare. The financial meltdown put the US into a Great Recession that was similar to the Great Depression. The right wing knew what happened to the wealthy in the Great Depression. FDR taxed the wealthy to pay for the war and the economic recovery.

After the 2008 elections, The Income Tax tables could have been reformed, the Estate Tax reformed, the capital gains tax increased and the Social Security part of FICA made more progressive.

Instead, the Democrats fiddled with medical insurance for more than a year. This was an opportunity lost.

Screw bipartisanship! When the electorate gives you a mandate, use it or lose it.

Herman Cain is alleged to have harassed two women

Politico states that two women at the National Restaurant Association "complained of sexually suggestive behavior by Cain. Cain's comments  made the two angry and uncomfortable,

Politico's sources said, and the women signed agreements with the restaurant group that provided financial payouts to leave the association.

The agreements also included a non-disclosure agreement that bars the women from talking about the alleged harassment.

Rightardia would not be surprised if racial issues later surface with this story.

NBC First Read updateNBC News has confirmed that one of the women had received a settlement from the National Restaurant Association. The settlement occurred  after the woman complained  about inappropriate sexual conduct by Herman Cain.

Conservative Irish eyes aren't smiling

Michael D. Higgins, new Irish
president
6:37PM BST 28 Oct 2011

Michael D. Higgins will become Ireland's next president. He is a 70-year-old poet and former arts minister. he is a member of the Dáil Éireann, the Irish Labour Party.

He is a veteran intellectual who has written two volumes of poetry and has been a MP since the early 1980s.

His slogan stated that he would be a president to be proud of.

Sean Gallagher, was Higgins' main opponent. He was on the reality TV show "Dragons Den"

Higgins had been trailing far behind Gallagher in opinion polls until the final week of his campaign.

Gallagher's lead melted away after he was accused of collecting a 5,000-euro donation from a convicted criminal in a recent live televised debate.

Gallagher bitterly denied having handled it and accused another opponent of launching a "political assassination" attempt, but the damage was done.

Gallagher may have been more deeply involved than he said with Fianna Fail, his former party which lost heavily in February's general election. Fianna Fall has been blamed for Ireland's economic crisis.

Hysterical Raisins: The Sheriff of Nuttingham

Rightardia though we had heard the last of the Birthers, but no!

This week, Orly Taitz joined reactionaery Arizona immigration sheriff Joe Arpaio. Arpaio is conducting his own investigation into Obama’s origins. At a Tea Party town hall in Arizona, Taitz sought to provide Arpaio with further evidence to bolster his case.

Arpaio, however, surprised the crowd by telling Taitz that he has evidence even she doesn’t have.

Arpaio won't tell her what it is, but he promises it will surprise even the harshest critics of the birther movement . . .

Rightrdia has heard claims like this before, but they were all wildly unsubstantiated. Arpaio should be recalled if he is wasting tax payer dollars on a birther investigation.

DU: Christians plan to form ring of prayer to protect occupy London protestors

Christian activists said it was their duty to support peaceful protest in the absence of support from St Paul's Cathedral.

Latinobarometro poll calls Obama best regional leader

Bush administration Foreign policy map for neo-conservatives

Obama is the best leader in the region according to the Latinobarometro poll. Twenty thousand  people in 18 Latin American countries were polled during the survey.

See http://www.latinobarometro.org/latino/latinobarometro.jsp

Certainly the Obama administration foreign policy is superior to the neo-conservatism of his predecessor, GW Bush.

Rightardia beleives the Democrats squandered the two years given to them to make the kind of changes this country needed after the 2008 elections. However, US foreign policy has been the bright spot.

We have signed treaties with Russia and the relations with out NATO allies are as strong as ever. Obama has eliminated terrorists such as Osama bin laden and also helped NATO overthrow the eccentric dictator, Moamir Qaddafi.

WIN: Video Of Ex-Marine Urging NYC Cops Not To Hurt Occupy Protesters

10/27/2011

By Doug Cunningham
One voice from Occupy Wall Street has drawn more than two million four hundred thousand hits on You Tube. Former Marine Sgt. And Iraq war veteran Shamar Thomas saw police in New York hurting Occupy Wall Street protesters and he stood his ground face to face with dozens of cops talking truth to power in the streets of New York City. Here’s what Thomas told those cops.
[Thomas]: “Why are y’all doin’ this to people? Y’all walk around in riot gear like it’s the war. These people don’t have guns! This is not a war zone. These are unarmed people. It doesn’t make you tough to hurt these people. Leave these people alone! They’re U.S. citizens! U.S. citizens! It doesn’t make any sense. How do you sleep at night? There is no honor in this! There is no honor in this! Stop hurting these people, man! Why are y’all doin’ this to our people?”
Thomas’ comments to police are especially relevant in the wake of Oakland police putting fellow marine and Iraq war vet Scott Olsen in the hospital with a skull fracture from a police projectile. The occupy movement held vigils for the hospitalized Olsen Thursday.

For the older male: Not the best time to marry or have children

One of the Rightardia staffers has a older unmarried son who will be 40 shortly We have written a few articles about Ricky the Rightard. Recently Secular Human talked to Ricky and said he needed to stop looking for perfection in a potential marriage partner.

Ricky the Rightard recently met a professional female who was attractive, belonged to the same faith Ricky  did and was also a member of the same political party.

When Secular human asked Ricky how the date went, all he could say was the lady in question was too quiet.

Secular Human pointed out that most marriages are a compromises of pro and cons rather than perfection made in heaven. Rejecting a potential partner because she wasn't "perfect" was an exercise in futility.

Of course, if Ricky didn't really want to get married, it would always be easy to find a reason that a women was unsuitable.

Ricky is about to hit 40 and by that time 88 per cent of males have been married. So his chances of finding a mate are about 1:8, not good odds. One he reaches 45, the odds increase to 1:25. Most older unmarried people are too inflexible or set in their ways to make room for a partner.

Most men who are married are about three years older than their wife according to Scientific American. This means the man will be retiring earlier than the wife. The retired male may have to assume more household responsibilities when they retire if they wish to maintain a strong marriage.

A Finish study also suggested that a man marrying women 14.6 years younger maximized men's lifetime reproductive success measured by offspring surviving to age 18.

If the female is too old, she may have trouble conceiving and the possibility of child being born with a birth defect increases. This is why some women are having their eggs harvested when they are younger and planning for  in vitro fertilization when they are near the end of their child bearing years.

Once man reaches 50, he may sire children with an increased risk for schizophrenia.

The Major said he couldn't imagine having a child at age 50. His children are all 18 and over and his is glad the frantic child rearing days are over. If a women were to conceive at age 40, she would be 58 when her child graduated form high school and then there is college.

"Young energetic people should raise children, not seniors," quipped The Major. "This is a younger person's game."

Recent government studies suggest older women are also unprepared financially for retirement age. This may be an unforeseen consequence of the woman's liberation movement.

Some women who have divorced their husbands after 30 years of marriage hoping for a last chance at happiness may have made a huge financial mistake. Likewise, we think a single man who is retiring will be facing a similar quality of life problem.

Newsy: Was the Oakland Crackdown Too Extreme?

From the Newsy.com transcript. See http://www.newsy.com/videos/analysis-was-the-oakland-crackdown-too-extreme/

Officials say the protesters were attacking police with rocks and beer bottles, prompting the crowd control measures. But a spokesman for the National Lawyer’s Guild says those measures were excessive and broke the department’s own rules.

“The police violated just about every provision of their own Crowd Control Policy last night … Demonstrators were shot with rubber bullets and shot-filled ‘bean bags’. All of this is prohibited under the Policy that we helped write and under which all OPD officers and commanders are required to be trained.”

That policy was crafted after another incident in 2003, when police used crowd control measures to break up an Iraq War protest. A writer for Mother Jones explains, the department has a history of controversy.

“This isn't the first time the Oakland Police Department has been accused of excessive force. After demonstrators filled the streets of downtown Oakland in June to protest the death of Oscar Grant, the young black man shot and killed by a BART transit officer in 2009, the National Lawyers Guild filed a lawsuit accusing Oakland police of violating its crowd-control policy.”

Occupy Oakland has announced plans for a November 2 general city-wide strike on its website.

Time to winterize your car

Probably the most important thing an auto owner can do is to check the anti-freeze in the radiator. If the concentration is too low, the engine block can be damaged or destroyed, a costly proposition.

You may want to replace an older  battery, too. An old battery won't be able to crank and turn the starter motor in cold weather.

Cryptlogon: Iraq War cost more than WW2

What is the the cost of America’s wars in Iraq and Afghanistan?

Last weekend, the Iraq war had cost more than $800 billion since 2001. Rightardia took a screen shot of the  home page of costofwar.com on 10/29/2011 at about 12:30 pm:

The human cost has also been huge. The war in Iraq has resulted in some 4,480 US troops killed and more than 32,000 wounded. The Iraqis suffered even more fatalities, about 654,965, according to the British medical journal, The Lancet. Other estimates says the human toll on Iraq is around 1 million dead which left a generation of Iraqi orphans.

The life cycle cost of these wars with veterans claims is estimated to be $4 trillion. Most of the national debt, some economists say 90 per cent, resulted form a steady stream of wars, contingencies and interventions the US has conducted since World War 2. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_United_States_military_operations

The GW administration added significantly to US public debt by increasing defense spending by 40 per cent after 911. The increase does not include the cost of the Iraq or Afghan wars either. Bush, of course, was the only US president to start wars without raising taxes.

Mitt Romney recently made this vow on October 10, 2011:

As President, on Day One, I will focus on rebuilding America’s economy. I will reverse President Obama’s massive defense cuts. Time and again, we have seen that attempts to balance the budget by weakening our military only lead to a far higher price, not only in treasure, but in blood.

This is a spin of the blood and treasure question the St. Petersburg Times asked John McCain during one of the 2008 debates. Were the Iraq and Afghan Wars worth the price in blood and treasure?

Rightardia suggests that neither war was worth the price and the GOP obsession with overseas adventures and policing the world is pushing the US toward insolvency.
