The conservative Red States are hardly a model for the rest of the nation
Rightardia has mentioned that the states that have most of the big problems in the US are the Red States.
These are problems like low wages, poverty, high venerial disease rates, high teen pregnancy rates, high under insured rates, and highest high school drop out rates in the nation. Sure, there are Blue States that have the same problems, but most of these problems are endemic to the South and the South West.
When Rush Limbaugh whines about the 46 per cent of Americans who don't pay federal income tax or welfare queens, well, most of them are Red Staters.
Forbes just looked at a study from the census that that showed Louisiana, Mississippi and Georgia were the top three states with poverty in the US. Georgia moved up two spots to number three in the country. About 15 per cent of Americans lived in poverty last year.
Nationally, the poor have swelled to a record 46.2 million which is nearly 1 in 6 Americans . The number of Americans without health insurance has reached 49.9 million. This is the highest in more than two decades.
Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, New Mexico, South Carolina and Texas had higher rates of uninsured residents than Georgia.
Most of these states have opted out of the affordable health care program that conservatives call Obamacare.
It should be clear why the GOP hates Acorn and voter drives. When the poor vote, The GOP loses. This is also why the GOP constantly dickers with voting laws to make it harder to vote.
