Ria Novosti: Russia unveils upgraded Igla-S short-range air-defense system

Russia unveiled its upgraded Igla-S short-range air-defense system (MANPADS) at the Eighth International Exhibition on Aerospace, Defence and Civil Aviation Aero India 2011 in Bangalore.

The latest version of the missile system is based on the Strelets (Archer) launch container and can be mounted on a tracked vehicle.

Unlike the previous model, it features a proximity fuze for detonating the missile even if it doesn’t score a direct hit.

Rightardia has seen an article in The Times of India about the export version of this system that the Indian Armed Forces is being trained to use.
