New Speaker of the House Boehner wants to raise Social Securty age to 70

The incoming speaker of the House Boehner wants to raise Social Security retirement age to 70 because people are living longer. This is a misnomer because many poor and working class people are not really living longer, just the middle class and the affluent.

Boehner also wants a means test for Social Security which will create a bureaucratic goat rope. By doing this, affluent people who would receive no benefit from Social Security will want to opt out of the system. That is the real class warfare goal of the GOP. Let the affluent opt out the the SS system.

This would be the beginning of the end of Social Security.

The top quintile of Americans now take in 50 per cent of the annual national income and the FiCA social Security cap is set to $102,500.  This means the Social Security tax has a minimal effect on the affluent.

In the past, Social Security was funded by raising the cap as required. However the Social security tax is highly regressive and the burden of the tax has been on the middle class because of the cap since he inception of Social Security during  the Great Depression.

It would make sense to eliminate the cap together and tax 100 per cent of income as the Medicare part of the FICA tax is funded. Of course, The GOP will resist any plan which raise taxes on their base of 'have mores."

Raising the Social Security retirement age will lead to more people filing for Social Security disability. Age discrimination laws are very restrictive in the US and the chances that a senior can work until even age 65 to 70 is remote. One in three Americans who receive Social Security today is disabled and the payments for Social security disability (SSD) are higher than normal Social Security.

You can expect the GOP to use a lot of smoke and mirrors to screw the middle class on Social Security. The Republicans are master of class warfare.
