Washington Whispers (usnews.com): Obama gets a 'C" in week 89

John Zogby on Week 89:

President Obama's chief economic advisor Lawrence Summers resigned and his Chief of Staff Rahm Emmanuel  plans to run for mayor in Chicago.

Those are the subheads in a week the president went headlong into campaign mode with a university speech urging students to "stick with me" and a Rolling Stone interview in which he gave liberal activists a verbal kick in the butt to get involved in congressional campaigns.

Our September 27 polling found Obama's job approval and Democratic standing in the congressional generic ballot did not maintain gains found the previous week.

Obama went to the United Nations to talk about aid to poor nations and urge China re-value its currency. Administration sources hinted about the threat of new trade actions against China.

If China revalues the Yuan upward, this will make Chinese goods more expensive. The US consider the Yuan to be undervalued.

The House has approved legislation that would allow the U.S. to seek trade sanctions against China and other nations who are manipulating their currency for trade advantages.

The bill would allow the Obama administration to pressure China on an issue that they say has led to the loss of more than 2 million manufacturing jobs in the U.S. during the past decade. The future of the bill in the Senate is unclear.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said that in 20 years America's trade deficit with China has gone from $5 billion annually to $5 billion every week.  This has caused a trade  imbalance that is affecting American jobs.
