Sat Oct 2, 7:26 am ET--Druidry recognised as religion in Britain AFP
LONDON (AFP) – Britain has recognised druidry as an official religion for the first time. this is nearly a thousand years after the Celtic pagan faith was suppressed by Christianity. The country's charity commission made the announcement.
The Druid Network was granted charitable status. The decision that not only gives Druidism tax breaks, it also lets the religion take its place alongside more mainstream religions.
Druidry emerged in ancient Ireland and Britain and spread further afield during the Iron Age, especially into France, but became largely supplanted as Christianity took hold across Europe. The Roams exterminated Druid prists when they arrived in the British Isles
It has gained recent popularity because of its pantheistic nature and concern with ecology.
Rightrdia comment: Rightria thought that Wicca and Drudry were similar, but they are not. Wicca and Druidry have different histories.
Some contemporary Pagans eclectically blend Wiccan and Druid practices. Druidry and Wicca as two discrete, separate entities: See http://www.druidry.org/obod/druid-path/wicca-druidry.html
