NRCC Chair Stumbles When Asked How GOP Would Cut Deficit

The National Republican Congressional Committee chair stammered on Meet the Press and offered glittering generalities and platitudes:

"We need to live within our means."

"We need to make sure we read the bills."

"We are going to balance the budget, we should live within our means and we should read the bills and work with the American people."

"We need to make sure that as we look at all that we are spending in Washington D.C."

"We have to empower the free enterprise system."

Historically the Republican party has increased the deficit because it has cut taxes for the affluent and increased defense spending.

The GOP has started expensive wars and insurgencies and been more concerned about worker productivity than unemployment. The chart shows how the deficit has increased under GOP and Democratic presidents.
