The Internet is running out of IP addresses?

The Internet is running out of IP addresses. They could be gone by the end of this year, and some are predicting another Y2K scenario.

Rightardia would like to point out that IPV6 has been around for many years and some corporations are already useing the 'new Internet protocol. IPv6 was defined in December 1998 by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) with the publication of an Internet standard specification, RFC 2460.

We are surprised that cell phone companies aren't using IPV6 because this is where most of the stress on the older IPV4 system is coming from.

This is one of those myths.

The Internet is NOT running out of IP Addresses. There IS an under-usage of an option.

That is because Internet Protocol includes Ports (Port Numbers).

There are many Ports assignments that can be used by anyone but are not today. Some Ports are assigned by industry standard (example Port 110, TCP, POP3 eMail), but many other Ports are still available but not being used.
