The Gavel: Why they call it the 'Party of No"

The Gavel July 26th, 2010 by Office of the Speaker

In a desperate attempt to distract from their admission that the GOP economic strategy is more of the same failed Bush-Republican policies that got us into this mess.

Yet Congressional Republicans are telling reporters that they are crafting an agenda that will focus on fiscal responsibility and creating jobs.

Facts are stubborn things—despite news reports of a new agenda, the Congressional Republican agenda is already on the record voting against fiscal responsibility and bills to protect and create American jobs:

SMALL BUSINESS AND INFRASTRUCTURE JOBS ACT – to create jobs with bipartisan provisions to spur investment in local rebuilding projects and a range of bipartisan proposals to help our small businesses grow, hire and continue to fuel our economy – including a provision to Save American Jobs by cracking down on foreign tax haven corporations.
98 PERCENT OF REPUBLICANS VOTED NO

AFFORDABLE CARE ACT – historic reform to protect consumers and extend health coverage to 32 million more Americans – creating 4 million small business and health care jobs.
100 PERCENT OF REPUBLICANS VOTED NO

AMERICAN RECOVERY AND REINVESTMENT ACT – to create and save 3.5 million jobs and give 98 percent of American working families and individuals a tax cut.

HOME STAR – to create an estimated 168,000 American jobs in construction, manufacturing and retail by providing consumers with immediate incentives to renovate their homes to become more energy efficient.
93 PERCENT OF REPUBLICANS VOTED NO

AMERICAN CLEAN ENERGY AND SECURITY ACT – to create millions of new jobs that can’t be shipped overseas, make America the global innovation leader, and help free us from funding terrorism with our dependence on foreign oil.
