What doe one of the smartest men in the world say about God?
Stephan Hawking told Diane Saywer:
"What could define God [is thinking of God] as the embodiment of the laws of nature. However, this is not what most people would think of that God,"
"They made a human-like being with whom one can have a personal relationship. When you look at the vast size of the universe and how insignificant an accidental human life is in it, that seems most impossible."
When Sawyer asked if there was a way to reconcile religion and science, Hawking said, "There is a fundamental difference between religion, which is based on authority, [and] science, which is based on observation and reason. Science will win because it works."
40 years ago Secular Human read a book called Science and Human Values by J. Bronowksi. At that time scientists were still trying to resolve sceince and religion. It is Rightardia's view that this is a patent waste of time. Science has advanced tremendously since the 1960s with Lunar landings, the Mars Explorer, and the Hubble Space telescope and others such as the Chandra. Many new humanoid fossil relatives have also been discovered.
Religion has remained static and immutable and the increase in Islamic and Judeo_Christian fundamentalism has widened the intellectual gap between science and religion.
We agree with Hawking: a human-like God that people could have a personal relationship with is a ludicrous concept. If an entity created the universe with the 'big bang, " it would not be remotely human. We have always been big fans of the Flying Sphetti Monster as the creator of the Universe.
