Tim Tebow — the Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback who will appear in a pro-life ad during the Super Bowl — will attend the National Prayer Breakfast on Thursday, his agent tells POLITICO.
Asked if Tebow will speak at the breakfast, his agent, Susan Vanderlinde, said, “Yes, I believe he is.”
President Obama and several lawmakers plan to attend the breakfast.
Tebow, who just finished his last football season at the University of Florida, has crossed over from sports to politics and religion: He will appear in an ad paid for by the conservative Christian group, Focus on the Family, during the Super Bowl.
In the ad, Tebow is expected to tell the story about how his mother refused to have an abortion, even after doctors urged her to do so when she became sick following a mission trip to the Philippines.
Tebow — who won the Heisman Trophy in 2007 and led his team to two BCS championships — has been known to write biblical passages in his eye paint before games.
Rightardia comment: Gloria Allred contends that since Mrs. Tebow was living in the Philippines (as a Christian missionary) at the time she became pregnant with Tim, and that since Philippine law prohibits abortion, then she would not have – could not have – been advised by her doctor to have an abortion for health reasons. Allred thinks the Tebow story may be a fabrication.
Rightardia would also point out that Mark ingram from the University of Alabama was the 2009 Heisman Trophy winner. Alabama also defeated Florida in the SEC championship game and went on to win the BCS championship. Florida finished fifth in the BCS standings.
We don't know what all the fuss about Tim Tebow is. Tebow is old news in college football. He did not have his best year in 2009 and the Heisman is often the kiss of death for college athletes trying to make into the Pros. Tebow's running skills will not provide him much of an advantage in the NFL tryouts.
Tebow is a fine athelete, but he would be smarter to keep his religious convictions private.
