David Broder: Recovery? It will take years

David Broder

Rightardia was reading an editorial by David Broder, the Washington Post writer.  Is David Broder liberal? Perhaps, but it also clear that he is honest.

A sentence buried in the OMB budget to Congress stated "Household net worth fell from third quarter of 2007 to the first quarter of 2009 by 17.5 trillion or 26.5 per cent , which is equivalent to more than one year's GDP."

One of the effects of this is the 10 per cent unemployment the nation is now reeling from.

The budget makes it clear that it will take the nation years to recover from the Great Recession. Unemployment will continue at the 10 per cent level until the end of the year.

As Broder put it, America lost the benefits of one entire year of work.

Broder believes Obama is moving the US in the right direction, but the Republicans are more intrested in returning to power than helping the Democrats overcome the problems the nation is facing. This is Rightardia's interpretation.

Broder thinks the growing population of aged Americans, inflation and rising medical costs will doom the future prospects for the US.
