Right Wing Violence continues to escalate: Guard killed at Holocaust Museum

A gunman armed with a rifle has shot and killed a guard inside the DC's Holocaust museum. The guard died of his injuries and the gunman is in critical condition,

The Holocaust Memorial Museum is located on the National Mall. It has the has seen 30 million visitors since opening in 1993.

James Von Brunn, 89, is the suspect in the shooting. His vehicle had been found near the museum and was being tested for explosives.

Mr Von Brunn has long been tied to white supremacist groups and served a prison sentence for walking into Washington's Federal Reserve in 1981 with a sawed-off shotgun, revolver and knife.

He is the web master for a racist, anti-Semitic site and has authored a book about the "destruction of the white race".

Right wing alternative media complained when Homeland Security about warned of radicals on right. The Department of Homeland Security had warned “law enforcement officials about a rise in "right-wing extremist activity," saying the economic recession, the election of America's first black president and the return of a few disgruntled war veterans could swell the ranks of white-power militias.

Since the warning from Homeland Security another man, Daniel James Murray, withdrew money from a bank and threatened to kill the president. He had eight firearms registered in his name, but police were able to apprehend him.

A search on Google for "Obama assassination attempt” using quotes will produce 12,800 hits. Right wing extremists clearly have Obama and other progressive targets in their sights. According to MSNBC, a lot of the growing right wing violence is directed against Hispanics.

Although the Obama administration has yet to complete its first six months, many of these right wingers are trying to blame economic conditions on Obama and the Democrats.

The Bush recession began in December 2007 and its Supply Side tax cuts failed to deliver jobs and growth between 2001 and 2007. The repeal of the the Glass-Steagall Act (1933) in 1999 and changes in SEC rules in 2004 allowed banks to loan money without sufficient reserves are primary causes of the financial meltdown in the US.

Most of the blame for the financial meltdown rests on the shoulders of the GOP. This is why the Democrats took control of the federal government and the majority of state houses and governorships in the 2008 election cycle.

Janet Napolitano, the Secretary of Homeland Security, was right about the increase in right wing violence. She needs to start a full court press on these domestic terrorists. These people need to be rounded up and put in maximum security prisons before more people are killed.
