Obama leads by 4 in Florida - Public Policy Polling

PPP's newest Florida poll finds Barack Obama leading Mitt Romney by a 50-46 margin in the state. That represents a 3 point improvement for Obama since PPP's last poll of the state . . . . It represents the largest lead PPP has found for Obama in Florida since early June.

Mitt Romney's image with Floridians has taken a turn in the wrong direction since the Tampa convention. His favorability has dropped 9 points from the Labor Day weekend.

Romney's comments about the '47 per cent' this week aren't doing him any favors. Fifty per cent consider his comments to have been inappropriate while 4per cent who were ok with them.

Romeny trails Obama by a 51/40 spread with independents who could determine the final outcome in the state.

PPP: MI momentum is with Simple Rick

"PPP's final poll in Michigan finds Rick Santorum holding on to the smallest of leads with 38% to 37% for Mitt Romney, 14% for Ron Paul, and 9% for Newt Gingrich.

It's always good to be cautious with one night poll numbers, but momentum seems to be swinging in Santorum's direction. Romney led with those interviewed on Sunday, but Santorum has a 39-34 advantage with folks polled on Monday. "

This result could make the Tampa GOP convention a brokered affair.

This is bad news for Mittens, but good news for President Obama.

PPP polling on the birth control issue

Here are the key things Public Policy Polling things found on birth control as a medical benefit:

-56% of voters generally support the birth control benefit, while 37% are opposed. Independents strongly favor it, 55/36, and a lot more Republicans (36%) support it than Democrats (20%) oppose it. Women are for it by a 63/29 margin.

-Only 39% of voters support an exemption for Catholic hospitals and universities from providing the benefit, while 57% are opposed to one.

-There is a major disconnect between the leadership of the Catholic Church and rank and file Catholic voters on this issue.

PPP: Ron Paul leads in Iowa

"Newt Gingrich's campaign is rapidly imploding, and Ron Paul has now taken the lead in Iowa. He's at 23% to 20% for Mitt Romney, 14% for Gingrich, 10% each for Rick Santorum, Michele Bachmann, and Rick Perry, 4% for Jon Huntsman, and 2% for Gary Johnson.

Gingrich has now seen a big drop in his Iowa standing two weeks in a row. His share of the vote has gone from 27% to 22% to 14%."

Gingrich took many hits from the right and the left in the past week. The National review indicated Gingrich had an important function in the GOP, but not as a leader. Talk about damning with faint praise!
