Why is the US beating Europe in GDP?

Far Left Side explains:

And now our Chart of the Day: Real GDP 2003-2012. (The reason the U.S. is doing better than Europe is because we invested in stimulus, while they went austerity. Now thank your president.)

The US used classic Keynesian economic techniques: middle class tax cuts, tax incentives for housing, modest increases to Food stamps (SNAP) and uenmployment insurance  and increased government spending (the stimulus).

DEBKAfile: US to provide Israel four KC-135 and GBU-31 bombs

The Israeli Chihuahua and the US Great Dane

Obama is promising to improve the Israeli air combat capability according to DEBKAfile.

The US will provide  four KC-35 ( probably the KC-135) aerial refueling aircraft, doubling the number of tankers already in the Israeli Air Force's inventory.

Wikipedia suggested Israel has 8 Boeing 707 tankers. The DEBKAfile report suggests that 4 of these tankers must be mothballed. The older US KC-135 refueler is based upon the Boeing 707. The US will also provide GBU-31 JDAM bombs

The Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) is a guidance kit that converts unguided bombs, or "dumb bombs" into all-weather "smart" munitions.

JDAM-equipped bombs are guided by an integrated inertial guidance system coupled to a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver. These bombs have a stand off range of at least 15 nautical miles (28 km).

This bomb is under powered for any attack on Iraqi nuclear facilities.

Obama is giving the Israelis an improved capability but Israel still lacks the tools to launch a successful air attack against Iran.

Israel would have to launch a combined air and ground attack against Iranian facilities to be successful. A punitive air raid would not do the job without combined US strategic bomber and tanker support during the raid.

The Russians are unlikely to idly stand by if the US provides additional air support to Israel. Russia could deploy the S-300 air defense system to Iran.

A bigger issue is the aftermath of an attack. Such an attack could push the region into another regional war that would involve the US.

Is Israel worth more US blood and treasure after the Iraq war which already cost tax payers nearly $1 trillion and American families 36,395 in casualties?

Rightardia doesn't think so. If Israel wants to risk annihilation by attacking Iran, it should go for it.

Benjamin Natenyahu likes to tell Obama that Israel is a sovereign nation.

Then Israel should start acting like one and start by fighting its own battles.

A US attack on Iraq is not justified and there is little US self-interest is such a venture.

RT: 'Israel has no capability to attack Iran'

Uploaded by  on Feb 25, 2012

This is a good run down on the Iran situation. It is an analysis that you will not see in US mainstream media.

Essentially Perter Eyre says the US is after regime change in Iran. Eyre also indicates that Israel alone does not have the capability to attack Iran, something Rightardia said a few weeks ago. See Eyre's comments at 4.35 minutes.

If Iran is attacked it will be by combined US and Israeli air forces. Israel only has 15 F-15I Strike Eagle aircraft and 8 Boeing 707 tanker aircraft. The 5,000 lb. GBU-28 bunker buster bomb is to too under powered to take out Iranian nuclear facilities. Israel could also launch missiles but the Iranians would be sure to respond with their own.

The Russia Today interview says:

Questions remain over Iran's nuclear programme after UN atomic officials said Tehran has failed to co-operate with them. The international community suspects that Tehran is building a nuclear bomb, but Iran insists it's only seeking peaceful atomic energy. The U.S. and its allies have been imposing tough economic sanctions, while Israel has even threatened military action against Iran's nuclear sites. But it's being reported that America's intelligence community has doubts about the nuclear allegations. RT talks to the Middle East Consultant, Peter Eyre.

The Republican alternative for 2012

According to Wikipedia, the US spends 4.8 per cent of its GDP on Defense. China spends 2 per cent on defense.

The US spends 2 per cent of the GDP on infrastructure while the Chinese spend 9 per cent of their GDP on infrastructure.

History will remember one country as builders and the other as war monkeys.

Who is the corporate elite? That would be the defense industry.

It is even more profitable than the Wall Street Banks and hedge funds.

Of course, Americans will do any thing to appease their little fiend, Israel.

Israel Firster suggests Obama assassination

Andrew Adler, the owner of the Atlanta Jewish Times suggested that Israel assassinate President Obama.

Adler suggested that Israel should attack Hamas and Hezbollah, destroy Iranian nuclear facilities and assassinate the president. Adler has since apologized for his suggestion that Israel assassinate the president.

Regardless, this Israel Firster broke the law and he should stand trail for his apparent crime.

Adler wrote the following which Gawker published:

Yes, you read "three" correctly. Order a hit on a president in order to preserve Israel's existence. Think about it. If I have thought of this Tom Clancy-type scenario, don't you think that this almost unfathomable idea has been discussed in Israel's most inner circles?
Another way of putting "three" in perspective goes something like this: How far would you go to save a nation comprised of seven million lives ... Jews, Christians and Arabs alike?
You have got to believe, like I do, that all options are on the table.

It is neoconservatives like Mr. Adler who were greatly responsible for pushing the US into war with Iraq. We are happy that Obama is more of an honest broker in the middle east than other American presidents have been. We don't need another war in the middle that would probably cost more than the $one trillion we have already blown on Iraq.

It is not in the US national interest to attack Iraq and the show of force in the Persian Gulf with two carrier task forces and an amphibious task force should be enough for Israel.

Attacking Iran is not in the US national interest and would immediately lead to a huge increase in gas prices. This would be a drag on the US economy that is just starting to recover.

Obama would be wise to assists the opposition Kadima Party and  the its leader,Tzipi Livni, in defeating Binyamin Natenyahu in the forthcoming Israeli election.

Bibi Natenyahu wants another regional middle eastern war that could lead to world war with Russia and China.

Israel is in great need of new leadership that is capable of working harmoniously with the US government.

The US is the dog and Israel is the tail. The tail needs to stop trying to wag the dog!

Rightardia believes all Americans should be America Firsters.

RN: Russia warns against Iran attack

RIA NovostiRussia Warns Against Iran Attack Russia Warns Against Iran Attack (WRAPUP)
19:18 18/01/2012 Russia warned that an attack on Iran would be a "catastrophe" for the region and said world powers should adopt a policy of non-intervention in the Middle East and North Africa.>>

Rightrdia agrees. An Israeli attack on Iran will at best case cause a regional war and Israle know this. Worst case could be the start of World War 3.

Russia and China are likely to support Iran which could bring the US in direct conflict with both countries.

is the small nation of Israel worth all of this drama? Rightardia doesn't think so.

Israeli "false flag' attack against the US fleet in the Strait of Hormuz

Israel to use a false flag attack to drag the Us into war with Iran?

"Several warnings of an imminent “false flag” attack by the Israeli-influenced United States on one of its own warships, which will be attributed to Iran, have been reported by several reliable sources. In recent years “false-flag” terrorism has been utilized multiple times by US and Israeli political actors to provide pretexts for otherwise unjustifiable, anti-Islamic military excursions. The plan is to justify an all-out assault on Iran based upon a new fabricated 'Pearl Harbor'.

There are major indications that the vessel of choice is to be the USS Vincennes. The fourth USS Vincennes (CG-49) is a US Navy Ticonderoga class Aegis guided missile cruiser. On July 3, 1988, the ship shot down Iran Air Flight 655 over the Persian Gulf, killing all 290 civilian passengers on board, including 38 non-Iranians and 66 children."

Rightardia editorial: The function of government

According to Wikipedia:

Capitalism is an economic system in which the means of production are privately owned and operated for profit. Income in a Capitalist system takes at least two forms, profit on the one hand and wages on the other.

Socialism is an economic system in which the means of production are publicly or commonly owned and controlled co-operatively, or a political philosophy advocating such a system.

Collectivism is any philosophic, political, economic or social outlook that emphasizes the interdependence of every human in some collective group and the priority of group goals over individual goals. Collectivists usually focus on community, society or nation.

Collectivism has been widely used to refer to a number of different political, economic and educational philosophies, ranging from communalism and democracy to totalitarian nationalism.

Corporatism refers to a form of collectivism that views the whole as being greater than the sum of its individual parts, and gives priority to group rights over individual rights.

The point is that no economic system is exclusively capitalistic or socialistic. All economic models used by nations are mixed and have both capitalist and socialistic elements. A collectivist approach like national health care and social security is more efficient than a fragmented capitalist approach with numerous middle men.

The real argument is the nature of government. The GOP argue that only people with business experience and "pro-business views" should be in government. Pro-business is a coded term for anti-labor or anti-union. However the records of pro-business presidents is not so hot.
Democratic presidents have a much better record of controlling the national debt and the deficit. In many respects the government is a mirror image of private enterprise. After the government collects taxes, its mission is roll the tax revenues back into the economy and to produce the most bang for the buck. The government is not motivated by profit.

Certainly there have been spirited arguments on how to spend the national treasure. The Democrats want to spend the revenues on infrastructure and social programs. The Republicans want to increase defense spending which is at historic highs. The US now produces half of the arms in the world.

The Republicans also advocate a perverse form of Keynesian  called supply side economics. Indeed, lowering taxes and increased government spending will stimulate an economy in an emergency situations like the Great Bush recession that started in 2007.

But the GOP gives the lion's share of the tax cuts to the affluent who they call the "most productive members of society." After 20 years of supply side economics of Ronald Reagan and the two Bush presidents, Americans have gained little from that grand experiment.

As Bob Herbert write in a recent editorial, Republicans need rehab. There ideas are not backed up with empirical data and worse, most of their ideas haven't worked.

Republicans have been smoking their ideological "wacky tobacky" for far too long.

The so-called party of ideas has become the party of bad ideas. Even many Republicans know this and half of the GOP wants a new party. Unfortunately many conservatives want to wander even farther to the right.

What do we need in government? Rightrdia would prefer to see politicians form a broad cross section of America to include teachers, fire fighters, police, college professors and working men and women.

If the founders thought there was a primacy of businesses or corporations, they would have written this into the constitution.

"(T)he Preamble demonstrates that the federal government of the United States was not created as an agreement between or coalition of the states. Instead, it was the product of "the People" with the power to govern the People directly, unlike the government under the Articles of Confederation, which only governed the People indirectly through rules imposed on the states. (Wikipedia)."

Should a corporate oligarchy or plutocracy direct the United States? This is not what the Founders had in mind.

Flyinureye 2100: Christian Exceptionalism

Why the US is no longer an exceptional country

In what besides defense spending?

The US is a young country relative to most European and Asians counties who have histories that extend more than 2,000 years. China's history extends more than 5,000 years.

Until World War 1, the US was primarily an agricultural and a debtor nation. During World War 1, the US earned hundreds of millions of dollars in defense hardware and munition sales. After World War 1 ended, we were no longer a debtor nation.

World War 2 also helped our economy when we produced ships. aircraft tanks for our allies in the UK and Russia. However, in 1992, we had more in foreign investment in the US than we were investing in other countries. We are now a debtor nation again.

The US is no longer the nation of big ideas. China is that nation.

When we have the Olympics in the US, it is a city event much like the last Olympic event is Salt Lake City which was more like a state rodeo, than an international olympic event. In China, the Olympics were a well-coordinated national event and a source of pride for the Chinese.

The last largest concrete dam in in the US was Grand Coulee Dam built in 1942. The largest dam in the world today is the Three Gorges damn built in China which was completed in 2006. It's China who has the fastest and most modern rail system in the world.

Why has the US lost its edge? it devoted much of the national treasure and blood to a series of failed wars that have sapped the strength of the economy. Some economists believe that more than 90 per cent of the national debt is due to defense spending during the "fog of war."

Republicans will suggest it is programs like Medicare and Social Security that need to be scaled back but these issues are not even debated in Canada and many of the European nations. There is no discussions about limiting organized labor or child labor either. These countries are successful because they have scaled back their armed forces and don't engage in military adventurism.

In addition, the GOP has been advocating tax cuts and state's rights since the era of Ronald Reagan. Fragmenting a nation with state's right legal salvos has not strengthened the US. It has weakened us as a nation.

The conservative philosophy that each person take care of their own and that the US should return to the outmoded values of our 19th century founders is doomed to failure.

The checks and balances of our forefathers has made our government unwieldy and a newer model is needed. Do we really need two legislative branches and judges that are appointed for life? Can our democracy be made more democratic with national plebiscites?

The centralized model of China with a single congress is more efficient than the outdated separation of powers model in the US with its continuous gridlock.

China is now the country of big ideas while the US is sinking into the parochialism of states rights, low taxes and limited government.

China will be the next nation ot visit the moon and it may try to harvest Helium 3 on the Moon. If it is successful and return this element to earth, it will control the primary energy supply of the world for the next 1000 years.

China dares to be great while the US retreats into the insular politics of weakening health care law and a chopping away parts of national railway upgrade. Meanwhile the national infrastructure crumbles while the two parties and the state and federal governments collide.

We need to change the way we do business in the Us before it too late.  Unfortunately, it may already be too late.

Perhaps another "Sputnik moment" would sober us up!

Bloomberg: US GDP growth is disappointing

Feb. 25 (Bloomberg) -- Scott Brown, chief economist at Raymond James & Associates Inc., discusses U.S. fourth-quarter gross domestic product (GDP) and the outlook for the economy.

The U.S. economy grew at a 2.8 percent annual rate in the fourth quarter, slower than previously calculated and less than forecast as state and local governments made deeper cuts in spending.

Brown speaks with Lisa Murphy on Bloomberg Television's "Fast Forward."

Brown pointed out that public sector jobs are disappearing at about a 20,000 per month rate which is unhelpful.

Many conservatives in their zeal to shrink government don't realize that these jobs pump in millions and billions into the local economy.

The Chinese GDP grew at a 10 per cent rate last year and the Chinese have set a 7 per cent goal for 2011.

China Daily: Hu's visit opens new chapter of China-US co-op

(Xinhua) Updated: 2011-01-23 07:29

BEIJING - Chinese President Hu Jintao's latest state visit to the United States bore rich fruit and opened a new chapter of cooperation between the two countries according to Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said Saturday.

The tou came on the 40th anniversary of the resumption of contact between the two countries and on the opening year of China's 12th Five-Year Plan for national socioeconomic development, Yang noted.

Meanwhile, the international situation was witnessing deep and complicated changes, and the China-US relationship was forging ahead with increasing momentum while inevitably encountering some differences and disputes, he said.

The Chinese president held frank and in-depth talks with his US counterpart, Barack Obama, and many other senior political figures, and reached important consensus on bilateral relations and a host of major regional and global affairs, Yang said.

During the tightly scheduled trip, which saw Hu attend nearly 20 events in Washington and Chicago within 68 hours.

The Chinese leader also reached out to the US public, conveying China's resolution to advance China-US ties, highlighting China's commitment to peaceful development and presenting China's image of peace, development, opening-up and progress, Yang said.

American Exceptionalism

This is a standard joke on alt.politics in Usenet. if you don't like taxes and gun regulation, move to Somalia.  There is no government there to tax you and everyone owns an AK47. It is right wing heaven.

Rightardia has published international indexes and the United States is rarely in the top 10. We are the most powerful country in the world because we spend an incredible amount of money on our Armed services and armaments.

We are the third most obese country in the world and we rank last for health care for industrial countries in the world.

There are numerous areas in which our nation  needs to improve, starting with the infrastructure.

Americans are like alcoholic who think they don't have an alcohol problem. America needs to stop resting on it laurels and man up. Big changes need to be made in the US to become a world leader again. We need to stop taking the talk and start to walk the walk!

Why do American expatriots denounce their US citizenship?

The RT video is misleading. Although some Americans on both the left and right have left the US for political reasons, most denounce their US citizenship to avoid double taxation from the local country and the US.

According to the U.S. Department of State, there was a substantial rise in the number of American-born expatriates since 1990.

Expatriation has increased from about 1.5 million to 4.5 million in 2005. The number of expatriates may increase  to about 6 to 8 million by 2009.

Most of the expatriates are retired and live on social security benefits. There are also others that are employed in international business, and those with strong unfavorable political views on American government.

For U.S. citizens, cutting ties with their native land is a drastic and irrevocable. But it's one that an increasing number of American expats are willing to take, says Time magazine.
  • According to government records, 502 expatriates renounced their U.S. citizenship or permanent residency in the fourth quarter of 2009 -- more than double the number of expatriations in all of 2008.
  • In addition, these figures do not include the hundreds -- some experts say thousands -- of applications languishing in various United States consulates and embassies around the world, waiting to be processed.
  • While a small number of Americans hand in their passports each year for political reasons, the new surge in permanent expatriations is mainly because of taxes.
  • Considering that an estimated 3 million to 6 million Americans reside abroad, the number of renouncements is small.
Expatriate organizations say the recent increase reflects a growing dissatisfaction with how the United States government treats its expats and their money:
  • The United States is the only industrialized nation that taxes its overseas citizens. This subjects citizens to double taxation.
  • Additionally, the U.S. government has implemented tougher rules requiring expatriates to report any foreign bank accounts exceeding $10,000. There are  severe financial penalties for noncompliance.
  • These stringent measures were put into place to prevent Americans from stashing undeclared assets in offshore banks.  These rules  make life increasingly difficult for millions of law-abiding expatriates.
The U.S. government requires other countries to abide by its banking and financial rules when dealing with expatriates.  Americans living abroad are often denied services because of the increasingly complex legalities and logistics involved in serving U.S. customers, says Time.

Many U.S. expats report being turned away by banks and other institutions in their countries of residence only because they are American. This is according to American Citizens Abroad (ACA), a Geneva-based worldwide advocacy group for expatriate U.S. citizens.

If you are considering moving to a foreign country, the magazine and web site, International Living, is a good place to start.

Be aware that foreign countries have special laws that apply to foreigners. You must bring a certain amount of money into the country every month, you may not be able to own property, you may not be able to work in the country or even start a business unless you are an absentee owner and hire only local nationals.

Look before you leap!

Rep. Steve King is good example of a fascist wing nut

For a long time, Steve King wasn't much more to America than a guy often confused for Representative Peter King (R-N.Y.), another GOP wing nut. At times, this was understandable! Today he is the King of the fascist wing nuts.

In 2009, Steve King managed to draw attention to himself  many times. For example, King cast the lone vote against acknowledging that slaves played a role in the construction of the United States Capitol Building.

He also strangely described gay marriage as a "purely socialist concept," noting that reality television had created emerging and important markets for heterosexuals to thoroughly debase themselves in public.

He also assailed hate crimes legislation for protecting "sexual idiosyncrasies," no doubt out of nostalgia for a simpler time, when people with "sexual idiosyncrasies" were tied to fence posts and beaten or put in stocks.

Fellow wingnut,  all-star Michele Bachmann, has vowed that she will not run for president unless called to do so by the Almighty, but she nevertheless sees a presidential run in King's future, saying that she "would encourage him to consider any position for higher office."

Ms. Bachman should  definitely wait for the Lord to weigh in on that, but King could be positioning himself for a run! It just might be a run headlong at a wall, built by slaves.

Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) also says he agrees with Texas Republican Congressman Joe Barton’s recent use of the term “shakedown” to describe the Obama administration’s actions to hold BP accountable in the wake of the massive oil spill continuing to plague the Gulf Coast.

Barton fired the criticism at the White House last week at a Capitol Hill hearing Hill related to the oil giant’s involvement in the catastrophic spill, issuing an apology to BP CEO Tony Hayward for the administration’s actions.

Now, King is running with Barton’s “shakedown” remark despite the comment being widely condemned by lawmakers on both sides of the aisle.

"I think Joe Barton was spot-on when he called it a 'shakedown,'” King told conservative radio host Laura Ingraham on Monday. “That's part of this administration's process… If you look at all they have nationalized during this administration, some started during the Bush administration, it should tell you, they want to swallow up as many Fortune 500 companies as they can."

Rightardia comment: People like the two Kings, Joe Barton, Michele Bachman, Sarah Palin, Glen Beck and Rush Limbaugh, and Rand Paul hold the fascist viewpoint that the government is subordinate to corporations and businessman, at least when the GOP doesn't control the White House.

When the GOP does control the white House, it ignores labor and environmental law that it considers inconvenient to corporations. In many respects, the GOP holds many anti-government sentiments, but oddly waves the flag whenever it can.

After World War 2, fascism was destroyed in Europe but many fascist organizations remained intact in the US because the US was spared many of the horrors that the Europeans and Japanese experienced during the war. This has resulted in big cultural differences between the US and many European nations.

Sarah Palin: The wrong prescription to America's ills

Let's take a look at the three things that Sarah Palin thinks America needs. First, gas prices are now very low and more drilling will not necessarily produce lower prices. Once the gas prices rose to historic highs during the Bush era, demand dropped. The Obama plan to produce energy by more alternative means seems to be the long term solution to americans' energy needs rather than the GOP energy solution to short term corporate profits.

Second, tax cuts are the one trick Republican pony. Spending increases and programs like unemployment insurance and increases to food stamps and WIC are more effective than tax cuts. FDR got America through the Great Depression and World War 2 by raising taxes on affluent Americans, not by cutting them. The Obama administration has been following the recommendations of the Moody's economists.

Do you really trust the GOP to cut your taxes? This was the outcome of the Bush era tax cuts. The middle class actually saw a tax increase according to the CBO, but the top 20 per cent of Americans actually got their taxes cut. The unwarranted tax cuts of the Bush administration also put the government into the red, doubling the deficit.

Rightardia does agree with Sarah Palin that America's spirits need to be lifted, but not by a cheer leader like George W. Bush. Obama needs a cause that Americans can get behind, but not another war.

The Great Recession is a dangerous time. The last time the world went into a huge economic turn-down, it led to World War 2. To make matters worse, a fool like Sarah Palin has suggested that Obama could be re-elected by starting a war with Iran.

It would be difficult to invade Iran without staging from Iraq which the US will withdraw from next year. Iran is a very mountainess area and the US would have to cross the formidable Zagrev mountains to invade the country.

Iran is bordered by the Caspian Sea that the the Russians would use to resupply the Iranians. The possibility of a war with Russia would greatly increase if the US were to invade Iran.

During World War 2, the Germans had assault rifles, rocket propelled grenades, cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, night vision goggles and other superior armament, but they still lost the war.

The US makes quality weapons, too, but  quantity usually prevails over quality in a large scale war. By the end of World War 2, the Germans had nearly 3,000,000 of its citizens under arms. The Russians had 30,000,000.

People win wars, not weapons systems. A war will not resolve the Great Recession. America needs to get behind our president. A lot of work needs to be done and the election of more ideologic right wing Republicans to the House and Senate in 2010 will not hasten the recovery.

RT: Russia-US: there must be a compromise on nuclear weapons

Published 05 December, 2009, 15:30

There is a possibility that there will be no legal agreement on disarmament to replace the outdated START treaty, but rather a political declaration instead, considers political analyst Victoria Panova.

“That would be a bad signal to all those countries that either have nuclear potential or are striving to achieve it to go further with that and escalate the arms race – that could be a danger,” believes Panova.

She continued, saying that “If they [Russia and the US], possessing 90% of the world’s nuclear arsenals, fail to agree on making less nuclear stocks then the other countries would not be considering them being serious in keeping their promises.”

Hugo Chavez rocks Moscow

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez brings the house down with his multi-talented performance on stage in front a group of university students in Moscow.

Having been late by more than an hour for a speech at University of People’s Friendship, Chavez received a warm welcome from the audience and delivered a passionate speech.

In his speech, Chavez touched upon a wide number of issues, ranging from policy to culture to history. While speaking, Chavez made many jokes, one, for instance, was about his attitude towards women.

As he continued to address the audience, his statements grew stronger and stronger. Speaking about international terrorism, President Chavez said the United States does not have right to blame the world for this threat.

“In all history, there was never a government more terrorist than that of the US empire. That's the greatest terrorists in the world history,” said the Venezuelan President.

With this comment, Hugo Chavez once again reminded the world community about the strained relations his country has with the United States. He later mentioned an important role Russia played in ensuring Venezuela’s international integrity.

President Chavez repeatedly called the United States “the Yankee generation” and said that this era was over and time has come for a multi-polar world.

“This world is too big for the Yankee Empire, they will not be able to dominate everybody. The Yankee empire will fall. It's already falling, It will disappear from the face of the world, and it's going to happen this century,” said Hugo Chavez.

After the address that took the President more than two hours, Hugo Chavez sang a patriotic song, “Venezuela,” while accompanied by a band.
