Ron Paul has a candid interview with Jay Leno

Ron Paul was on Jay Leno last night. He made some intresting comments. First, his view on Michele Bachmann:

She doesn't like Muslims. She hates them, she wants to go get 'em.

"Hate" is such a strong word. Perhaps, "harbors a willful ignorance towards as a political ploy to drum up support from an aging, out-of-touch base" is more appropriate.


Jay asked Paul  about  Rick Santorum and said that he seems to only talk about "gay people." Paul corrected him, "Gay people and Muslims."

Jimmy Kimmel Live: Michele Bachmann's Story of America

On Tuesday's show, Jimmy Kimmel presented his view of Michele Bachmann's story of America. 


Rightardia has discussed many times the distorted view the right wing has of American history and its attempt to excise founders like Thomas Jefferson out of high school text books. 


Bachman has said that John Quincy Adams was a founder who worked hard to eradicate slavery. JQ Adams was a sub-teen during the American Revolution. He did work to eradicate slavery when he was older during the onset to the Civil War.

Praise the Lord: Sarah Palin will run for president

HuffPost's Jon Ward reports on the launch of Palin's bus tour:

"Starting this weekend, Sarah Palin will embark on a One Nation tour of historical sites that were key to the formation, survival, and growth of the United States of America," said Tim Crawford, treasurer of Palin's fundraising group, SarahPAC, in a statement provided to The Huffington Post. "The tour will originate in Washington DC and will proceed north up the east coast. More information will follow." 

Palin will kick things off Sunday by taking part in the "Rolling Thunder" motorcycle ride -- comprised mainly of U.S. veterans of the Vietnam War -- that begins at the Pentagon and concludes at the Vietnam Memorial on the National Mall.

This is great news for the Democratic Party. This will result in a split between the country club Republicans and the Tea Partiers. 

Roger Ailes of News Corp thinks Sarah Palin is an idiot. He thinks she's stupid. He helped boost her up. Ailes said people like Sarah Palin haven't elevated the conservative movement.

Can Palin suddenly get smart enough to be president? Rightardia doubts it. If the GOP wants a nut job to run for president, Michelle Bachmann would be a better choice. She is smarter and more articulate.

Iowa Rep. Steve King Steve King Says "Growing Dependency Class" Is "Not As Productive" As The Rich

Last night on the House floor, Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) discussed his view on those he calls the "dependency class."

KING: They [Pelosi and Obama] were working on their vision of America which is transfer payments, tax the rich, transfer those payments to other people that aren't as fortunate, or I—I'll say not as productive, they may not be as fortunate.

While this is going on, the deficit was growing, a dependency class was growing and that was what was going on . . .

King is evoking Reagan's "welfare queen" image which is  disproved stereotype.  King believes those who depend on the federal government are lazy and choose to receive federal assistance.

King also referred to the affluent as the most productive members of society which at best could be described as a GOP value judgement.

Yet, one in six American lives in poverty and until recently the GOP had never extended their  welfare rhetoric to the unemployed. Unemployment compensation is actually an earned benefit an employee receives from his or her employer.

Some of these citizens in his own state include:

The 6.3 percent of Iowans who are currently unemployed because of the financial collapse and sluggish economic recovery.

The 6.8 percent of Iowa workers who are paid at or below minimum wage, who may not have the choice to get a better paying job.

The farmers in King's congressional district that received $216,634,812 in federal USDA farm subsidies in 2009, the 12th highest in the country.

The 513,929 Iowa senior citizens in 2010 dependent upon the federal government for Medicare.

The estate Tax was instituted in 1915 and was in effect until President Bush suspended it. The tax primarily affects the top 5,000 American families, who have $ one million estates or larger. It is one way to prevent the strengthening of the wealthy oligarchy we already have in the US.

We wonder if Rep. Steve King is just uniformed about this tax or just a right ring shill? Is anyone surprised Michele Bachmann and he are friends?

POLITICO.com: Bachmann challenger has big second-quarter haul

A bit of news that Dems will love: Tarryl Clark, the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party challenger to firebrand Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), raised a whopping $910,000 in the second quarter of this year, bringing her total raised to about $2 million.

That's a lot of dough for a House challenger, and it reflects the national fundraising potential in taking on a liberal enemy such as Bachmann.

Clark now has 24,000 individual donors.

Bachmann's filing hasn't been released yet, but she raised more than $800K in the first quarter.

Harris Poll: "Wingnuts" and President Obama

A recent Harris Poll seeks to measure the bizarre views of many Americans. It finds that 40% of adults believe he is a socialist. More than 30% think he wants to take away Americans' right to own guns and that he is a Muslim.

More than 25% believe he wants to turn over the sovereignty of the United States to a world government, has done many things that are unconstitutional, that he resents America's heritage, and that he does what Wall Street tells him to do.

More than 20% believe he was not born in the United States, that he is "the domestic enemy the U.S. Constitution speaks of," that he is racist and anti-American, and that he "wants to use an economic collapse or terrorist attack as an excuse to take dictatorial powers."

Twenty per cent think he is "doing many of the things that Hitler did," while 14% believe "he may be the anti-Christ" and 13% think "he wants the terrorists to win."

These are some of the results of The Harris Poll of 2,320 adults surveyed online between March 1 and 8, 2010 by Harris Interactive.

The actual percentages of adults who believe these things are true are as follows:

• He is a socialist (40%)
• He wants to take away Americans' right to own guns (38%)
• He is a Muslim (32%)
• He wants to turn over the sovereignty of the United States to a one world government (29%)
• He has done many things that are unconstitutional (29%)
• He resents America's heritage (27%)
• He does what Wall Street and the bankers tell him to do (27%)
• He was not born in the United States and so is not eligible to be president (25%)
• He is a domestic enemy that the U.S. Constitutions speaks of (25%)
• He is a racist (23%)
• He is anti-American (23%)
• He wants to use an economic collapse or terrorist attack as an excuse to take dictatorial powers (23%)
• He is doing many of the things that Hitler did (20%)
• He may be the Anti-Christ (14%)
• He wants the terrorists to win (13%)

What Republicans think

There are – no surprise here – huge differences between what Republicans and Democrats believe. Majorities of Republicans believe that President Obama:

• Is a socialist (67%)
• Wants to take away Americans' right to own guns (61%)
• Is a Muslim (57%)
• Wants to turn over the sovereignty of the United States to a one world government (51%); and
• Has done many things that are unconstitutional (55%).

Also large numbers of Republicans also believe that President Obama:

• Resents America's heritage (47%)
• Does what Wall Street and the bankers tell him to do (40%)
• Was not born in the United States and so is not eligible to be president (45%)
• Is the "domestic enemy that the U.S. Constitution speaks of" (45%)
• Is a racist (42%)
• Want to use an economic collapse or terrorist attack as an excuse to take dictatorial powers (41%)
• Is doing many of the things that Hitler did (38%).

Even more remarkable perhaps, fully 24% of Republicans believe that "he may be the Anti-Christ" and 22% believe "he wants the terrorists to win."

Differences by education

These replies are also strongly correlated with education. The less education people have had the more likely they are to believe all of these statements.

Consider these differences between those with no college education and those with post-graduate education respectively:

• He is a socialist (45% and 20%)
• He wants to take away Americans' right to own guns (45% and 19%)
• He is a Muslim (43% and 9%)
• He was not born in the United States so is not eligible to be president (32% and 7%)
• He is a racist (28% and 9%)
• He is anti-American (27% and 9%)
• He is doing many of the things Hitler did (24% and 10%).

After reviewing these findings, John Avlon comments, "These new numbers are shocking but not surprising – they detail the extent to which Wingnuts are hijacking our politics.

This poll should be a wake-up call to all Americans about the real costs of using fear and hate to pump up hyper-partisanship. We are playing with dynamite by demonizing our president and dividing our country in the process. Americans need to remember the perspective that Wingnuts always forget – patriotism is more important than partisanship."

So what?

So what indeed! These responses recall a favorite saying of our founder Lou Harris that "when you don't want to publish a poll finding you dislike, you should get out of the business."

The very large numbers of people who believe all these things of President Obama help to explain the size and strength of the Tea Party Movement, a topic that will be addressed in another Harris Poll in a few days time.

Michele Bachman got the 'Charge of the Light Brigade' right

The poem describes a disastrous, badly orchestrated charge by the British calvary in the Battle of Balaclava.

It became a symbol of loyalty and courage in the face of certain defeat, particularly after being described by Tennyson. The poem's ominous tone makes a lovely ode to fallen British soldiers, but is an unlikely battle cry for conservative protesters:

"Forward, the Light Brigade!"
Was there a man dismay'd?
Not tho' the soldier knew
Someone had blunder'd:
Theirs not to make reply,
Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do and die:
Into the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.



The Major, our international affairs editor, said part of this poem was used a lot in the Air Force. The Air Force version went like this:

How many members of Congress does it take to change a light bulb? Americans may soon find out.  Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota has introduced some contrarian legislation titled the "Light Bulb Freedom of Choice Act,"

Her bill sought to repeal the nationwide phase-out of conventional light bulbs, the kind that have been used for more than a century.

Michele Bachmann: Dollar to be replaced by international currency

The right wing started the Amero rumour about a currency that the US, Canada and Mexico would use. Now this.

The reality is there has been talk in international circles about unlinking national currencies from the dollar to a more stable currency that is likely to be the Euro.

This change was spurred by the Wall Street meltdown and it has little to do with the Democratic Administration of Obama.

Episode Four of of Republicans Island: The Bobby Gin Doll

The story so far.  Michael Steele and band of trusty Republicans were evicted from Park Place on Fantasy Island. They sailed off on the SS Minnow, Bernie Madoff's old yacht and got into a terrible storm. The ship was beached on Republican island and has been setting up camp for the past weekend. 

The RNC has it first strategy meeting and decide to rename the “Party of No” the 'Party of Perhaps.

Michael Steele, the condescending millionaire, notices that Bachagain, Michele Bachman, is playing with a voodoo doll and sticking pins in it.

What are you doing, Bachagain?” asked the millionaire.

“Oh, nothing,” said Bachagain trying to hide the voodoo doll.

Steele asked her, “Is that a Bobby Gin Doll?”

“Uh, no,” said Bachagain.

Steele grabbed the doll form her and looked at it. He then handed the doll back to Bachagain. Michele, “You should be ashamed for sticking pins in a Republican goober-nor. Shame on you. Why did you do this,” exclaimed Steele.

Well, Bobby is a Mexican. I have also heard he isn't Christian, blurted out Bachagain.

"No,” said Micheal Steele, Bobby has Indian ancestry and his father was a physicist.

Bachagain asked, “If Bobby is a native American, why isn't he on a reservation? “

“Oh, Bachagain you are so dense. Bobby is from India in Asia.” Said Steele. Most American Indians do not live on reservations

“Well,” said Bachagain, “Then he must be a Hindoo, I've heard his real name is 'Piyush,' not 'Bobby.'”

Steele said the goobernors real name was, in fact, Piyush. He changed it to Booby because he liked one of the characters on the Brady Bunch. In addition, all of the kids on the playground said 'Piyush” was a gay name.

Bachagain started putting more needles in the doll. Michael Steele asked her again, “Why are you doing that?”

Bachagain stated that is Bobby was Indian, he must be a Hindoo and worship Lord Vishnu, the god with the blue skin.

No, said Micheal Steele. Please get me some water, Bachagain as he sat down.

As Bachagain left, Michael Steele wondered how the people of Minnesota had reelected her.

When Bachagain returned, Steele explained that Booby had converted to Roman Catholicism when he was 16.

See, said Bachagain, I knew he was a hindoo. You can never get the “dew” out of a Hindu. So Bobby says he is Roman Catholic now, isn't that special” exactly like you would expect a church lady to say it.

Well, said Steele, Bobby is good Republican. He has offshored thousands of jobs from his state of Louisiana. He is an up and comer in the GOP. We even call him 'Offshore Bobby' inside of the party.

Oh, said Bachagain. Well, then he must be a Christian. She started to pull all of the pins out of the Bobby Gin doll.

Suddenly announcement came over the radio that Barack Obama wanted to end the tax breaks for companies that were off shoring American jobs.

“Oh no' said Micheal Steele. “This isn't good news. “

Well, what do you expect from a Black Muslim that goes to Louis Farrakhan's mosque.

Michael Steel was speechless.
