Huffington Post: GOP fears Obama re-election will result in permanent welfare state

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- At the South Carolina GOP convention, Republican lawmakers warned that a second term for President Obama would kill America's independent spirit and create a permanent big government welfare state.
Sen. Jim DeMint, the Palmetto State’s conservative firebrand, has said for months said the upcoming presidential election “is our last chance to get it right.”

I America a welfare state? Hardly Americans pay the FICA tax for years before they can apply for Social Security at age 62 and Medicare at age 65. There is no national health care plan. The Affordable Health Care Act left the private insurance companies intact.

Is Unemployment and worker compensation welfare? If we did not have unemployment insurance, many people would lose their homes and cars and be evicted from their apartments before they could find a new job. The alternative to workers compensation is more law suits against small business and corporations.

Medicare is another welfare program that provides medical help to people who have no health insurance. Of course, the Affordable health Care Act would get many of these people off of Medicare because of the Individual Mandate that requires everyone purchase health insurance or face an IRS fine.

The GOP has been attacking the iIndivual Mandate in the courts to try to destroy the Affordable Health Care Act. Figure that one out!

The only programs that are really welfare are Food stamps and the Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF). Food Stamps are a program of last result after the unemployment insraunce runs out. TANF has aliftime benefit of five years and replaced Aid to Dependent children which was probably the last comprehensive welfare program in the US.

Republicans probably consider the school lunch program welfare, but this may be the only meal many children in poverty get, Would it suprise you that it many professionals enroll their kids in the school lunch program! This is because the parents lie about their real income and think it "unfair" that the less fortunate would be eligible for a free school lunch. Most Democrats don't think that way.

Are your Pell Grants and student  loans welfare? In Europe many countries provide the equivalent of a two or four year degree free to their young people. Unlike the Americans, the European kids don't carry a $20,00 to $30,00 debt with them when they graduate from college.

Is America a welfare state? Rightardia doesn't think so. We think tax cuts and subsidies to billionaires, millionaires and corporations are also a form of welfare, bu the GOP is only concerned with "welfare programs" that entitle US citizens to benefits during hard times.

Boing Boing: Ayn Rand took government assistance while decrying others who did the same

Was Ayn Rand the mother of Marty Feldman of Monty Python?

An interview with Evva Pryror, a social worker and consultant to Miss Ayn Rand's law firm of Ernst, Cane, Gitlin and Winick verified that on Miss Rand's behalf she secured Rand's Social Security and Medicare payments which Ayn received under the name of Ann O'Connor (husband Frank O'Connor).

Rand is considred the founder of the Libertarain movement.

As Pryor said, "Doctors cost a lot more money than books earn and she could be totally wiped out" without the aid of these two government programs.

Ayn took the government money even though Ayn "despised government interference and felt that people should and could live independently... She didn't feel that an individual should take help."

But alas she . . . said it was wrong for everyone else to do so.

Is Social security and Medicare government assistance.

Yes, but it's not welfare because a working Americans must have 10 years or forty quarters of FICA contributions to be entitled to standard Social Security benefits and Medicare Part A that covers hospitalization.

Social Security also has the Social Security Income (SSI) and Social Security Disability Income (SSDI) programs.

SSI is provided for elderly immigrants who cannot meet the statutory requirements for normal Social Security. However, tax scoff-laws who haven't been paying FICA like the Gulf Coast fisherman who were caught up in the BP oil spill, will also be eligible for this welfare when they can no longer work.

These FICA tax scoff-laws will also have to use Medicaid for their medical needs which is a welfare program. Of interest, most of the people who are on welfare live in the Red States.

Rightardia has written several articles on the Red State welfare apparatus. The Red states have more people on food stamps and related welfare programs than any of the other states. They have more military bases and other federal installations.

The Red States are also recipient states that receive more in federal aid than they pay in with income tax. Most of the people who don't pay federal income tax are Red Staters.

In the US the other major welfare programs are programs Food Stamps and Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF).

Want to guess where the uninsured live?

click graphic to enlarge

Here we go again. Rightardia has published several articles that point out that most of the unemployment in the US is in the South and the West. Most of the people who don't pay federal income tax live in the South and the West. Most of the recipients of appropriations from Federal Income Tax live in the South and West. Most of the 'donor states' for Federal Income tax are in the  North East and Left Coast. The women who have the lowest vaccination rates for HPV also live in the South and West.

Rightardia guesses the conservative idea of 'freedom' is being unemployed with no medical insurance so it citizens can avoid paying federal income tax. The welfare state is alive and well in the South and West.

Who do these conservatives who live in the South and West think they are kidding?
