Huff Po: It's time for the nuclear option
With the news that Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) plans to filibuster the current health care bill, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's (D-Nev.) options are looking increasingly limited. But one Democratic senator may introduce legislation that would make health care reform a lot easier.
Sen. Tom Harkin of Iowa told reporters this weekend that he might reintroduce legislation to end the filibuster, something he first proposed in 1994. The Hawk Eye reports:

Sen. Tom Harkin of Iowa told reporters this weekend that he might reintroduce legislation to end the filibuster, something he first proposed in 1994. The Hawk Eye reports:
"I think, if anything, this health care debate is showing the dangers of unlimited filibuster," Harkin said Thursday during a conference call with reporters. "I think there's a reason for slowing things down ... and getting the public aware of what's happening and maybe even to change public sentiment, but not to just absolutely stop something."Under Harkin's proposal, debate could be prolonged by the minority -- just not forever.
"You could hold something up for maybe a month, but then, finally you'd come down to 51 votes and a majority would be able to pass," Harkin said. "I may revive that. I pushed it very hard at one time and then things kind of got a little better."It is time to use the nuclear option to end the filibuster and also to throw Joe Lieberman out of the Democratic caucus. He should be stripped of all the committee he chairs in the Senate.

Strip Joe Liberman game
Democrats should not be supporting ANY senator who joins with the insurance lobby to stop the health care reform that Americans need.
That's why Credo and Agit-Pop are teaming up to get Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid to strip Joe Lieberman of his leadership positions if Joe sides with the GOP to obstruct health care reform.
Help us put the pressure on by playing the game, adding your name to the petition, and spreading the word!
But wait there's more. If If you sign the petition, Agit-Pop will even send you a male G-string with Lieberman's likeness on it! This will be a huge hit among Log Cabin Republicans!

Gang of Six trying to delay health care legislation
A bipartisan group of centrist and conservative senators known as the Gang of Six sent a letter to the Democratic and Republican leaders on Friday urging delay in consideration of health care reform.
The letter, obtained by the Huffington Post, was drafted by Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) and is also signed by Democratic Sens. Mary Landrieu (La.) and Ron Wyden (Ore.), Independent Joe Lieberman (Conn.), who caucuses with Democrats, signed on, as did Maine Republican Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins -- moderates heavily courted by President Obama.
The organized effort to slow down the process is a blow to the reform effort. Obama has pushed hard for a final vote before the August recess, arguing that delaying until September could slow momentum and risk missing a historic opportunity.
According to Paul Krugman, Senator Ben Nelson is the ring leader. Delaying the legislation will give the health care industry more time to organize. Obama needs to take the gloves off and use some LBJ style arm twisting on these DINOs.
Paul Krugman pointed out in a recent editorial:
Case in point: the Medicare Modernization Act of 2003, which denied Medicare the right to bargain for lower drug prices, locked in overpayments to private insurance companies, and did nothing, nothing at all, to pay for its proposed outlays. How many of these six self-proclaimed defenders of solvency voted no on the crucial procedural vote? One. (Joe Lieberman, to my surprise.)
