Wirehead taught classes to Islamic students who pointed out that an Islamic man can have three wives. When Wirehead asked how commonplace that was, the students said only wealthy men have more than one wife.
Polygamy is a form of eugenics, the assumption being that rich men are more fit to bear children. In the past, these men were the kings and the emperors.
Mittens' great-great grandfather has 12 wives and has great grand father had five. The implication is other Mormon men had no wives because the church determined they were less fit to bear children.
This is really what polygamy is about.
