They shoot elephants, don't they?




Gov. Rick Scott greeted Spain's King Juan Carlos, by opening with the king's widely derided elephant hunt. The monarch had already wisely apologized to the Spanish people about the hunt.

Scott's elephant talk caused uproarious laughter in newspapers nationwide and late-night Spanish television.

Florida was originally a colony of Spain. "Florida" indicates flowers or flowery in Spanish.

In 1819 Spain reluctantly signed the Adams-Onis treaty ceding Florida to the United States in return for U.S. assumption of $5 million in damages claimed by U.S. citizens against Spain.
