2011 Kennedy Center Honorees at the White House

Uploaded by on Dec 27, 2011

The 2011 Kennedy Center Honors were bestowed on five giants from the world of the arts -- not just for a single role or a certain performance, but for a lifetime of greatness. The recipients, Yo Yo Ma, Meryl Streep, Barbara Cook, Neil Diamond and Sonny Rollins, were honored at the White House in early December.
Rightardia enjoyed the production. Top American talent came out for the tribute. Anne Hathaway sang a song to honor Meryl Streep. Hathaway is an excellent singer. We knew she was a wonderful actress but her singing ability astounded us. Streep in our estimation is one of the greatest contemporary American actors.

Lionel Ritchie sang a Neil Diamond song and he sounded remarkably like Neil Diamond. Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland also sang one of the Neil Diamond songs. Nettles is a young women so it was quite a testament to her talent to be chosen for the Kennedy program

For the music nerds, Yo-Yo Ma, the cellist, was honored and his Silk Road ensemble was featured which had musicians with many unusual and ancient instruments used in counties along the Silk Road.

Rightardia was not familiar with Barbara Cook, the singer honoree, who started her career in the 1950s but has continued to make recordings as late as 2010.
Nor were we familiar with the saxophonist, Sonny Rollins. Rollins also launched his career in the 1950s and he is also still making music.
The Kennedy Center Honors is a national event tha celebrates the performing arts as distinct from show business. Over the years, the arts have never been highly regarded by Republicans.
