Newsy.com: Ban the Pledge of Allegiance?

Only the US and the Philippines have a pledge that is recited by children in school. The pledge should not be confused with "oaths of allegiance" that newly elected government officials take in some counties.

The Pledge is voluntary according to the Supreme Court. In Rightardia's opinion, a pledge might be expected in a totalitarian country, but not a democratic one like the US.

The pledge was created to sell flags at the turn of the century and the "under God" phrase was added in the 1950s. Rightardia knows that most children will do what adults in authority positions tell them to do and doubt if many kids understand the history of the pledge or its voluntary nature.
