Israel: The Evangelical sacred cow

Mahmoud Abbas will use a live speech on Palestinian television to announce the Palestinian Authority (PA) will be applying for full membership of the United Nations.

The Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas is expected to submit the application to the UN on 23 September.

Senior US envoys are in the region are trying to stop the vote in the UN General Assembly. Susan Rice, the US ambassador to the UN, is is saying the vote will make it more difficult for peace.

Israle has had 60 years to make peace and has spurned all efforts on the part of US and the PA to do so.

Rightardia thinks peace between Israel and Palestine is unlikely because any agreement would stop the belligerent expansion of Israel into Palestinian lands.

The US arguement against Palestianian statehood is reminiscent of arguments used to stop civil rights for blacks and women' suffrage. If Palestine doesn't apply for statehood, the status quo which benefits Israel is retained.

If not now, when should Palestine ask to become an independent state?

Susan Rice, told the BBC's Katty Kay the move for statehood would set back prospects for real talks with Israel.

Rightardia doubts if there any prospect for "real talks" between Israel and Palestine while the right wing idiot, Benjamin Netanyahu is PM.

We fully expect this middle east issue to be resolved on the end of a gun barrel one day. Turkey is no longer an Israeli ally and has a new alliance with Egypt. The Camp David accords may be hanging on by a thread. Basically, the Us has been paying off Egypt not to attack Israel under the Camp David accords.

Egypt came very close to defeating Israel in the 1967 war and would have overrun Israel if it had not stopped its military advance.

If Turkey and Egypt both attacked Israel, Israel would be unlikely to survive as a nation.

Rightardia got a ridiculous robo-call from Mike Huckabee about the US unfunding the UN and removing the UN scouge from the US shores. Huckabee is upset about the Palestine vote.

Israel is, of course, the evangelical's sacred cow.

The UN is not the US's bitch and never has been. The international perspective is on Israel on the part of the General Assembly is a more accurate understanding on the situation than most Americans have who have been spoon fed Israeli propaganda for years.

We applaud the Palestine initiative to begin the quest for statehood. Trying to work out a peace agreement with the Netanyahu government is a waste of time.
