The GOP has engaged in class warfare since Reagan was elected with supply side economics. A Federal Reserve study showed that Reaganomics fractured the middle class which shrunk during the 20 year period in which we elected Republican presidnets.
Presidents Clinton and Obama did little to reverse the trends that distributed wealth upward and created more poverty.
Dean Baker in the Guardian noted:
In reality, the right uses government all the time to advance its interest by setting rules that redistribute income upward. As long as progressives ignore the rules that are designed to redistribute income upward, they will be left fighting over crumbs. There is no way that government interventions will reverse a rigged market . .
