The GOP been engaged in voter suppression for decades. Republicans know that a light voter turnout benefits the conservative minority who is very militant.
When the nation was founded, only people who owned property could vote, which Wikipedia estimates was 12 to 16 per cent of the population. Believe it or not, many Republicans would like to change it back to the "good ol' days" when only property owners could vote.
Tea Party Nation President Judson Phillips said that denying the right to vote to those who do not own property "makes a lot of sense."
In more than 40 states, Republicans are trying to make it more difficult for poor people, the elderly, students and minorities to vote – because those are people who typically vote Democratic.
Republicans are changing voting laws under the guise of clamping down on the mythical “voter fraud."
One of the Rightardia staff tried to explain this to my red neck relative who rents. the relative thought because he owned a Ford Explorer, he would be able to vote if a property requirement was a prerequisite to voting.
Yes, this is the same rightard who bought a gun with his unemployment insurance after the 2008 elections.
Conservatives never cease to amaze us.
