Santorum is one of the dumbest people in US politics
During his latest trip to New Hampshire, Republican Rick Santorum says the Social Security system would be in much better shape if there were fewer abortions.
The former Pennsylvania senator and potential presidential candidate was asked about Social Security during an interview on WESZ-AM radio in Laconia, NH.
He says the system has design flaws, but the reason it is in big trouble is that there aren't enough workers to support retirees.
He blamed that on what he called the nation's abortion culture. He says that culture, coupled with policies that do not support families, deny America what it needs _ more people.
Of course, it's the GOP who discourages immigration while more than half the growth in the US according to the Us census was caused by Hispanic families.
The decline in the US birth rate was actually spurred by the Great Recession.
"Nearly half of low- and middle-income women surveyed a year ago by the Guttmacher Institute said they wanted to delay pregnancy or limit the number of children they have because of money concerns.
Half of those women also said the recession made them more focused on contraceptive use. Guttmacher researches reproductive health issues."
The Republicans also 'reformed" Aid to Dependent Children which provided assistance to single mothers until a child was 18.
This was replaced with Temporary Assistance to needy Families (TANF) which provide a max of five years of assistance.
Women now have access to a variety of birth control means that also has affected the birth rate.
